What else?
One of my most anticipated albums of the year, Beck's Modern Guilt, drops tomorrow.
The most interesting release this week combines three of my favorite things, baseball, Steve Wynn, and Scott McCaughey (The Minus 5, Young Fresh Fellows). The Baseball Project: Volume 1: Frozen Ropes and Dying Quails brings these talented musicians together to share their love of America's pastime in song.
Other discs I have heard and can strongly recommend include CocoRosie's God Has a Voice, She Speaks Through Me 7", The Capstan Shafts' wonderfully lo-fi Fixation Protocols, Dutchess & The Duke's She's The Dutchess, He's The Duke, Patti Smith & Kevin Shields' collaboration The Coral Sea, and Ratatat's LP3.
I am definitely picking up the Fiery Furnaces' vinyl reissues of Blueberry Boat, The Fiery Furnaces EP, and Gallowsbird's Bark on vinyl. Other vinyl reissues I am buying include British Sea Power's Open Season; Xiu Xiu's Fabulous Muscles
La Foret, and my favorite M. Ward album, Transfiguration of Vincent.
What new music releases have you excited this week? Have any let you down?

The latest news making the rounds is that The White Stripes have announced they recorded a few new songs with Beck.
Papertiger points out why this is not a surprise.....
1. Beck appeared in the Stripes’ video for “The Hardest Button To Button”.2. Beck showed up to play bass on “The Denial Twist” at the Stripes’ show in LA in August 2005.
3. Jack showed up to play guitar with Beck & Smokey Hormel at their show in Detroit in August 2002. They played “99,” “Last Fair Deal Gone Down,” and “Cold Brains.”
4. Jack plays bass on “Go It Alone” on Guero, and they reportedly did a few other songs together then too (but it’s the only one that’s out yet).
5. In a photo gallery on beck.com, Meg was pictured, hanging out with Beck and his band on a boat in Australia (I think in 2003).
6. Beck covered “Black Math” once on stage (a bootleg surfaced of this show, but it has not fallen into the hands of Beck collectors yet).
7. Jack White interviewed Beck once.
"Conquest" details below....

The last-minute "solo acoustic" Beck show at Angel Orensanz (an old beautiful synagogue) in NYC Sunday night (Oct 22, 2006) wasn't very solo at all (his whole band was there), but I guess you could call it acoustic. There were no puppets, but there was a Casio. It was really great.

Cover artist Marcel Dzama of Royal Art Lodge has even been asked to remix his original artwork for the new release." [Spacelab]
