Neil Gaiman, Amanda Palmer @ Town Hall
Amanda Palmer and her fiction-wrtier spouse Neil Gaiman return to NYC for An Evening with Neil Gaiman & Amanda Palmer, "an intimate night of spoken word, songs, stories, chats with the audience, and more than a few surprises." They do the same tomorrow as well.
Wesley Stace @ City Winery
Wesley Stace (aka John Wesley Harding) is doing another of his Cabinet of Wonders variety shows at City Winery tonight, and this one features comedian Eugene Mirman, Cardigans singer Nina Persson, Chopped host Ted Allen, The Walkmen's Peter Bauer, Buffalo Tom singer Bill Janovitz, spoken word artist Beth Lisick, The Ice Storm author Rick Moody, and alt-country singer Jim White. You can still get tickets.
Juvenile, Bodega Bamz, Brenmar, Grandemarshall, Party Supplies, High Klassified, Nick Catchdubs, Special Guests @ SRB Brooklyn
It's the return of the Fool's Gold Anniversary party, and features a killer lineup of Southern rap vet Juvenile (aka the guy who's huge for "Slow Motion" and "Back That Azz Up"), A$AP Mob collaborator Bodega Bamz, local producer Brenmar, Action Bronson collaborator Party Supplies, and more.
Sleigh Bells, Danny Brown, Doldrums @ Terminal 5
This is the first of two nights that this multi-genre triple bill hits Terminal 5, including the rage pop of Sleigh Bells, style-hopping rapper Danny Brown, and indie pop band Doldrums.
Kayo Dot, Vaura, Psalm Zero @ 285 Kent
Tonight 285 Kent hosts an excellent triple bill of experimental metal from Kayo Dot, related band Vaura, and Extra Life/Castevet-related Psalm Zero.
Beach Fossils, Perfect Pussy, Habibi @ 285 Kent
Beach Fossils wrap up their fall tour with this hometown show, featuring a killer undercard of Perfect Pussy and Habibi.
Jonathan Richman, Hilton Valentine @ Bowery Ballroom
Modern Lover Jonathan Richman has been a continuously active solo artist for decades, and it's been a pretty regular thing that he comes by NYC to do a multi-night run here at least once a year. This is second of two Bowery Ballroom shows.
Bear Hands, Canon Logic, Dead Stars, Desert Sharks @ Brooklyn Night Bazaar
Brooklyn Night Bazaar is a destination spot on the weekends, offering microbrew beer, a variety of food, holiday shopping and free music -- this week from Bear Hands, '90s indie rock lovers Dead Stars and more. You can also play ping pong or black light minigolf. Free.
Grant Hart, Journalism, Little Racer @ Cake Shop
Grant Hart may be not as popular as his former Husker Du bandmate Bob Mould, but he's still got an active solo career as well, which included the release of this year's well-received The Argument.
Celestial Shore, Zula, Banned Books, Laser Background @ Shea Stadium
This is a solid local lineup, including mathy indie pop band Celestial Shore and psych-pop band Zula.
Ancient Sky, Little Gold, Florida, Giant Peach @ Death By Audio
Local psych rock band Ancient Sky celebrate the release of their new album, All Get Out, tonight. You can stream it in full below.
Shannon and the Clams, Las Rosas @ Mercury Lounge
A lover of vintage rock n' roll and R n' B, Shannon (who spent time in Hunx & His Punx and sang on the last Intelligence LP) brings that fun spirit to her own to this year's Dreams in the Rat House. This is Shannon and the Clams first of two shows in NYC this weekend.
Slonk Donkerson, Butter The Children, Bluffing, Sunflower Bean @ Muchmore's
Muchmore's hosts a number of solid regulars on the local rock scene tonight, including the shoegazy Downtown-signed Butter the Children.
Jose James, FaltyDL @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Neo-soul singer Jose James returns to NYC for this show, which is being opened by local future garage great FaltyDL.
Meet me in the Bathroom and Tell Me All Your Secrets @ Union Hall
Dave Hill hosts this "incredible night of laughter, music and gunplay" featuring Bob's Burgers/Archer funnyman Jon Benjamin, Bridget Everett, Mike Bochetti, Patrick Salt Ryan, Sam Haft, Shaina Feinberg and Hill's own band, Valley Lodge.
Whores, Black Black Black, No Way @ Saint Vitus
Whores make heavy noise rock, and it makes sense that they're playing a place like Brooklyn's mostly-metal bar Saint Vitus, but these guys appeal to a non-metal crowd too, with hints of Unsane, and other similar bands.

Majical Cloudz @ Warm Up - 7/27/13
The 2013 Warm Up summer concert series at MoMA PS1 continued on Saturday (7/27) with UK acid house/techno legend A Guy Called Gerald, Montreal indie pop duo Majical Cloudz, Ben UFO, Daniel Avery, and Roosevelt. It wasn't as hot as some of the other Warm Ups have been, but the party wall installation and indoor cafe were still great ways to get out of the sun if you needed to. Of the mostly dance-y lineup, Majical Cloudz were really the only ones who drastically changed the tempo for the day, and they acknowledged that they were kind of killing the buzz, but that didn't stop them from continuing to engage the crowd (from within the crowd at times). Pictures from last Saturday's Warm Up are in this post.
Headliner A Guy Called Gerald played again later (much later) that same night at Cameo in Williamsburg. Warm Up continues this Saturday (8/3) with Marcellus Pittman, Jackmaster, Dre Skull, Ratking, and Rizzla. Tickets for all remaining Warm Ups are on sale now.

The last announced INPUT party for April at the moment (they haven't announced a 4/25 show) is on April 18 with Ben UFO, Pearson Sound, and Pangaea. Tickets are on sale. And if you haven't already, check out Ben UFO's Fabriclive.67 mix.
