Drink Up Buttercup @ Berry Park - June 26, 2010
Drink Up Buttercup

After unsuccesfully opening in time for the 2009 Northside Festival, Brooklyn beer garden Berry Park was able to become a show venue for the 2010 edition of the festival. And though I don't recall them hosting any shows there before this, and there's nothing on their schedule of upcoming events (not counting World Cup games), it seems that Saturday night's Flavorpill showcase was at least a success. Marianne stopped by to see Drink Up Buttercup. A few more pictures from their set below...

The way that I found out about Bjork was I was 14 or something and I saw at the mall the cover of Debut and I was totally drawn to it...If you start at Bjork, you're gonna find some good things along the way, and I was definitely more into the indie side of music after that. Radiohead was huge for me too. But I've always loved like pop, too. I love Rihanna and I love Boys II Men and Mariah Carey and things like that, too. [Julianna Barwick @ 17dots]
Tonight (Wed, June 3rd) Julianna Barwick is having a CD release party at Pianos for her Florine EP, which came out at the end of April. Joining her will be local dream pop trio Twi the Humble Feather.

The show kicks off Barwick's three-week Wednesday residency at Pianos. The singer will also play the Northside Festival on June 11th at Cameo Gallery.

Twi the Humble Feather will be at Northside too, on an amazing bill with Bell, Death Vessel, Teengirl Fantasy, Arrington De Dionyso and Weekends. That show, on Saturday, June 13th, was to happen at new Williamsburg venue Berry Park, but has since been moved to Public Assembly. Berry Park is not quite ready for business yet.

And that's not the only Northside show to switch from a not-yet-opened venue. O'Death's Northside show that same day moved from Brooklyn Bowl to the Music Hall of Williamsburg. Both gigs coincide with Williamsburg Walks, which will close Bedford Avenue to traffic on select Saturdays.

Julianna Barwick's Florine EP track list and art, with all tour dates for her and Twi, below...

Bell @ Mercury Lounge April 27th, 2009
Bell

Bell is playing a "Sound Fix Presents" Northside Fest show, not AT Sound Fix which no longer hosts live music, but at Berry Park - on Saturday, June 13th with Death Vessel, Arrington De Dionyso (Old Time Relijun), Teengirl Fantasy and Weekends. Either a Northside badge or $10 at the doors, which open at 8pm, will get you in.

Before the Northside gig, Bell will play (Le) Poisson Rouge on Wednesday, May 27th with UK's Ciam. Tickets are on sale.

Death Vessel, who is also on the Sound Fix bill for June 13th at Berry Park, has a show at the Bell House with Grant Hart (ex-Husker Du) coming up on June 1st.

The above and below pictures of Bell are from her Monday, April 27th show at the Mercury Lounge with Bowerbirds, Lost in the Trees and La Strada. Photos of those bands were previously posted. The rest of the Bell pictures below...

Berry Park

Eater reported at the end of March:

"Berry Park [is] a new bar/restaurant/roof deck opening at 4 Berry St. in the next couple of months. One of the owners tells us they plan to open by May 1 and that they will have a large selection of European beers with an emphasis on their German selection and will serve "beer infused menu items." The lower level is 35,000 sq. ft. but the big focus here will be the 3,000 sq. ft. roof.
That story was updated on May 5th. Eater says:
'the giant bar/restaurant/music venue/roof deck Berry Park on 4 Berry Street in Williamsburg is slowly chugging along. The roof fencing is in, and they're building out the bar and tables right now. They're shooting for May, but June sounds more likely."
They better be open by June 13th because that's when Sound Fix is presenting a showcase there for the Northside Festival.
