Bruce Springsteen w/ U2 @ MSG 7/31/2015 (via u2.com)
U2 played a massive eight shows at NYC's Madison Square Garden as part of their "INNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE" tour and it wrapped up on Friday night (7/31). Bruce Springsteen was brought out for the encore to play on "Where The Streets Have No Names" and a cover of Ben E. King's "Stand by Me." Video of that is below.
There were lots of special guests across the eight shows, all of which began with "The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone)." Night 3 (7/22) had Jimmy Fallon joining U2 for "Desire" and The Roots for "Angel Of Harlem"; Night 5 (7/26) had Lady Gaga joining them on piano and vocals for "Ordinary Love"; Night 7 (7/30) had Paul Simon come out for "Mother And Child Reunion" and also featured a Lou Reed tribute with U2 covering "Satellite of Love" for the first time live since 1993. There were famous people in the audience, too, including a few 2016 Presidential hopefuls: Rick Santorum was there for Night 3 (7/22) and Hillary Clinton and hubby Bill were there for the final show with Bruce.
In addition to the Paul Simon appearance, Night 7 also had the run's most awkward moment, when Bono introduced the woman who called 911 after his Central Park bike crash last year. It started with cheer but then Bono passed the mike to her and she recounted the incident, saying "obviously I had to stop and help because I'm not from New York, I'm from Virginia, where people are nice." Cue massive booing. Video of that is below too.
While in NYC, Bono and The Edge appeared at Ellis Island with Yoko Ono for the unveiling of a "Yellow Submarine tapestry honoring John Lennon. At the event, Bono said of Lennon, "Let's claim him. In fact, let's claim all the Beatles not as immigrants but as Irish," which irked some. That tapestry will be on display at Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration through August 16.

Fiona Apple @ Winstar World Casino last night (via rideincircles)
The brouhaha surrounding Fiona Apple's drug arrest last week just keeps going. (They're calling it AppleGate!) Over the weekend, Apple talked about her jail experience, or something like that, in Houston. It involves two "lock boxes."
Then, Hudspeth County Sheriff's department spokesman Rusty Fleming offered an amazing rebuttal that included this bit:
Two weeks ago nobody in the country cared about what you had to say, -- now that you've been arrested it appears your entire career has been jump-started. Don't worry Sweetie, I won't bill you.Texas state law classifies hashish possession as a third-degree felony, so according to AlterNet, Fiona could be headed back to jail for up to ten years.

[Ozzy Osbourne] has turned over a new leaf, literally, by embracing a vegan diet for what the Prince of Darkness cites as health reasons. Reportedly, after his assistant showed him the vegan documentary Forks over Knives, Ozzy decided that it was time to cut meat, fish, dairy and anything else derived from animals out of his diet. Speaking on Sharon Osbourne's chat show, The Talk, the singer revealed that he his feeling the benefits:Look for Ozzy and Tony (and Bill Clinton) trying out the new vegan pie at Two Boots all this month.
"I feel OK actually, I feel better about myself, you know? I go on binges. That's the reason why I decided to cut out meat out and dairy because I've limited what I can have because when you're on the road and you're travelling, you grab buns and... burgers are everywhere... so now I've just narrowed the margin."
Ozzy's new lifestyle choice comes hot on the heels of the news that he and his Black Sabbath alumni, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward may begin rehearsals for a final reunion tour.... If Sabbath do hit the road again, Ozzy may find some camaraderie from his new dietary choice in band member Geezer Butler. The bassist is a longstanding vegan, and has appeared in advertising campaigns for P.E.T.A. [Ultimate-Guitar]
Experience is central to Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential bid, and Wednesday night she tapped one of pop music's most venerable rockers to help fill her campaign coffers with $2.5 million. Elton John, who has sold records and filled arenas for four decades, played a benefit concert for Clinton at Radio City Music Hall.
"I've always been a Hillary supporter," John, 61, said before launching into his 1970 breakthrough hits, "Your Song" and "Border Song." "There is no one more qualified to lead America."
The English singer, composer and pianist added: "I'm amazed by the misogynistic attitudes of some of the people in this country. And I say to hell with them .... I love you Hillary, I'll be there for you." [AP]
