Joan Jett at Riot Fest Chicago 2013 (more by Kirstie Shanley)
Joan Jett

The annual Little Kids Rock benefit gala (which Brian Wilson played last year) happens this year at NYC's Hammerstein Ballroom on October 23 and honors Joan Jett. Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong will present Joan with the award and Alice Cooper, Tommy James, Darlene Love, Jake Clemons, Glen Hansard, Brody Dalle and Jesse Malin will all be on hand to perform Joan's songs as a tribute to her. The event is produced by Jake's fellow E Street Band member Steven Van Zandt and his wife Maureen (both also of The Sopranos). You can reserve a seat now ($25,000 seats are the cheapest ones remaining, but there's a waiting list for the two lower levels).

Joan doesn't have any regular shows in NYC on her tour schedule, but she will be nearby not long before the gala for a show at NJ's Count Basie Theatre on October 11 with Jesse Malin. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

All of her dates are listed below...

2014 Osheaga Festival

Headliner OutKast took the stage with a more pertinent query: "Are you ready for the greatest rap group of all time?" It was classic rap hype, and yet as the ensuing 90 minutes proved, the recently reunited duo of Big Boi and Andre 3000 has earned the right to include itself in the ranks of the hip hop elite. Not only did these guys show no rust, they reminded us what made them great since their first album, Southernplayalisticadillacmusik, was released 20 years ago: a dynamic and utterly complementary MC team blessed with rare musicality, lyrical ingenuity and stylistic audacity. From frenetic opener Bombs Over Baghdad to the understatedly anthemic Wheelz of Steel, civil rights party jam Rosa Parks and the song that made them a household name, Ms. Jackson, they were at once authoritatively engaging and sonically adventurous. Sure, there were hits, lots - including irresistible genre-bender Hey Ya! (delivered by André 3000 with a line of female fans dancing on stage - cheesy, but effective), sly boast So Fresh, So Clean, and the beautifully sleepy Elevators - but it's all relative. At its best, OutKast mixed cool and creativity like nobody's business. [Montreal Gazette]
Taking place over the same weekend as Lollapalooza, and boasting a similarly huge lineup, Montreal's annual music festival Osheaga went down over this past weekend (August 1-3). The stacked festival included sets from Outkast, Jack White, The Replacements (with Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong), Arctic Monkeys, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Modest Mouse, Danny Brown, Mac Demarco, Against Me!, The Dismemberment Plan, Haim and many more. Pictures of some of those artists, and a bunch of others, are in this post.

They continue below...

Billie Joe filling in for & helping carry Paul @ Coachella
Billie Joe

After what was regarded as a lackluster first weekend set, the Replacements returned to Coachella's Outdoor Stage with a vengeance, recruiting Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong to fill in for ailing frontman Paul Westerberg, who was laid up on the couch -- literally. [Billboard]
The reunited Replacements now played Riot Fest in multiple cities and Coachella twice including the second week which was this past weekend when they were joined by Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day (see above).

Their upcoming festival dates continue to get announced and include Shaky Knees in Atlanta, Forecastle in KY, Boston Calling, Osheaga in Montreal, and two weekends of Austin City Limits. They are being picky. The Boston Globe reports that, "Westerberg's manager, Darren Hill, said the band has been invited to play at every major festival, but is only playing a few."

Meanwhile still no NY, but the band today announced their "long-anticipated homecoming show at St. Paul's Midway Stadium on Saturday, September 13, 2014. Tickets for the show, taking place at the home of the Saint Paul Saints, go on sale Saturday, May 3 at 10 AM CDT." Opening acts TBA.

Get well soon Paul!. All dates are listed along with both of their Coachella setlists below....

Green Day

As mentioned, Green Day cancelled a bunch of tour dates due to Billie Joe Armstrong going to rehab, including their Brooklyn show which would have happened on January 16 at Barclays Center with Best Coast. The band have now rescheduled those dates to take place later this year, and they're currently set to play Barclays Center on April 7. It's not clear if Best Coast is still on the tour. Tickets for the newly scheduled Barclays Center show are on sale now and all tickets purchased for the 1/16 show will be honored.

Updated dates listed below...

Green Day

Barclays Center has only been open for like a month and they've already racked up three cancellations. Green Day, who previously cancelled some stuff when they announced Billie Joe was going to rehab, has appropriately chosen the day of Hurricane Sandy to announce they're cancelling even more:

Green Day announced today they will cancel their club tour that was due to launch in Seattle at the Paramount Theatre on September 26th and wind down in Tempe, AZ at the Marquee Theatre on December 10th. Tickets for these clubs shows will be refunded at point of purchase. Additionally, Green Day will postpone all scheduled appearances for the months of January and February 2013. New dates for these rescheduled shows will be announced shortly and previously purchased tickets will be honored on the new dates.

"Obviously the timing for this isn't ideal, but Billie Joe's well-being is our main concern," said Mike Dirnt. "We are happy to say that Billie Joe is doing well, and we want to thank you all for the outpouring of support and well wishes that we have received, and we can't wait to see you all again soon.

Green Day also announced they would move up the release date of Green Day ¡Tré! to December 11, 2012 from its original date of January 15, 2013.

"We feel bad we have to delay our tour, so to make up for it we want to give our fans the music earlier than we had planned," said Tré Cool. "If we couldn't be there to play it for you live, the least we could do was give you the next best thing."
The full list of cancelled and postponed dates (many with Best Coast), January 16th at the Barclays Center included, below....

Green Day Meltdown

And just when we were starting to wonder if Billy's freak out was a PR stunt, Green Day announces:

Billie Joe is seeking treatment for substance abuse. We would like everyone to know that our set was not cut short by Clear Channel and to apologize to those we offended at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas. We regretfully must postpone some of our upcoming promotional appearances.
As AP points out "Sunday's announcement by the band's rep comes after the rock frontman had a meltdown onstage at the iHeart Radio Music Festival in Las Vegas."

Which appearances are being cancelled is unclear, but the band is supposed to be on Kimmel and Ellen this week along with some other California gigs. Their proper tour with Best Coast doesn't start for a while though. Take care Billie Joe.

Watch the on-stage freakout HERE.

UPDATE: In the wake of this incident, Billie Joe is going to rehab.

Green Day

"I'm not fucking Justin Bieber you motherfuckers!", says Billie Joe in the entertaining video below...

Yeasayer in Austin earlier this month (more by Tim Griffin)
Yeasayer

We already posted lots of posts today. Here's some more, and some reminders too...

Yeasayer played Summerstage last night (9/12). We missed them but caught them in Austin where Dead Can Dance also recently played. How was the NY show?

As BV Chicago pointed out, Smashing Pumpkins frontman BIlly Corgan opened a tea shop outside of Chicago, and he played acoustic sets there today to celebrate.

Bat For Lashes is releasing her new album, The Haunted Man, on October 21. Back in July, she revealed the first album cut, "Laura," and today she's let loose a second taste of the album. Continuing a trend thus far of naming songs after women's names, this one's called "Marilyn." You can stream it below.

The final track on the new Lower Dens album, Nootropics, has become the inspiration for a new beer brewed by Stillwater Artisanal Brewing for their new Stillwater Sensory Series. The beer is called "Stillwater Artisanal, Sensory Series v.1 - Lower Dens" and will be out this November with a QR code on each bottle that leads to an exclusive video of Lower Dens performing the song when scanned.

The Walkmen, whose tour brings them to NYC for a show at Terminal 5 on October 18 with Dum Dum Girls (tickets) will play Conan tonight.
