It was the official Canadian music-industry consecration of Arcade Fire at this year's edition of the Juno Awards, with the Montreal alt-rockers nabbing four trophies, more than any other artist. Arcade Fire won album of the year for "The Suburbs", group of the year, songwriter of the year ( for "Ready to Start", "We Used To Wait", and "Sprawl II"), and alternative album (also for "The Suburbs").Congrats to Neil Young, Arcade Fire, Caribou, Katy Perry ("Best International Album") and Daniel Lanois on their Juno wins. The Juno Awards, Canada's music awards, were doled out at a ceremony at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto Sunday (3/27) night, with the show broadcast live on the CTV Network.
The multiple wins for Arcade Fire follow the ultra-hot outfit's recent win for best album at the Grammy Awards, a win that took many by surprise. Shortly after the Grammys, Arcade Fire also won for best international group and international album at the Brit Awards in London.
... Canadian pop star Justin Bieber also won two Junos, for pop album (for "My World 2.0") and the Juno Fan Choice Award. Bieber was in Rotterdam Sunday, on tour, and accepted his awards via pre-taped video acceptance speeches.
Canadian rock icon Neil Young was voted artist of the year, which led him to quip on stage: "What year is this?" Young was also given, as previously announced, the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award and his moving acceptance speech was one of the highlights of the night. On Saturday night, in a non-broadcast ceremony, Young also won for adult alternative album for "Le Noise". Daniel Lanois also won as producer of the year for both "Le Noise" and his own project, the self-titled Black Dub album. -[Variety]
Lanois will head back out on the road with his Black Dub project in May and June. The newly announced set of dates inclues a NYC show at Webster Hall on 6/15 with Rocco DeLuca. Tickets go on AmEx presale at noon on Wed (3/30) with regular sale hitting on Friday.

Daniel Lanois and his new project Black Dub will go on a short tour in November in support their debut self-titled LP which drops November 10th.
That tour hits Bowery Ballroom on Nov 17th. It's the second time in less than a year that the legendary producer will play the venue. Tickets are on sale.
The release isn't that far removed from the recent motorcycle accident which sidelined Black Dub in early summer:
Daniel Lanois says he is lucky to be alive following a motorcycle crash last month in Los Angeles in which he suffered six broken bones, a cracked pelvis and internal bleeding around his right lung. "I was on my bike with a friend of mine on the back and a guy coming the other way decided to turn in front of me into a variety store," says Lanois, who has produced albums for U2 and Bob Dylan. "I veered to miss him, but I hit an industrial box on the sidewalk going 35 miles per hour. I blacked out and when I came to I was laying on my back in the parking lot and people were telling me 'don't move.' Then they hauled me away to a hospital and I had to lay there like a vegetable for three weeks." -[Rolling Stone]Good to hear he's up and at it, and also back in the producer's chair, like he was for the upcoming Neil Young LP, Le Noise:
Yes, it's true...Neil Young is releasing brand-new solo album, Le Noise, Sept 28th on Reprise Records. The eight-song album is a collaboration between the acclaimed rock icon and musician/songwriter/producer Daniel Lanois, known for his work with U2, Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel, Brian Eno, Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, The Neville Brothers and many others....Some pretty harsh guitar tones on that record, which you can stream in full at NPR now. Neil Young is prepping to reunite with his old band Buffalo Springfield at the end of next month.Recorded in Lanois' home in the Silverlake area of Los Angeles, Le Noise features Young on acoustic and electric guitars with Lanois adding his trademark sonic textures, creating one of the most sonically arresting albums Young has ever recorded. No band, no overdubs, just "a man on a stool and me doing a nice job on the recording," as Lanois puts it.
Neil is currently on tour with Bert Jansch who plays with Pegi Young in October. Tickets to the Brooklyn show are sold out.
