Agnostic Front @ Webster Hall
Agnostic Front

While I was checking out the brutality at Maryland Deathfest 2011 back in May (pictures from day 1 HERE, day 2 HERE, day 3 HERE, and day 4 HERE), NYC was keeping it brutal in their own way, with the 2011 edition of the Black & Blue Bowl. The show featured a headlining set from a reunited Gorilla Biscuits. We already posted those pictures, but there was also sets by Agnostic Front, Sick of It All, Terror, Absolution, Antidote, Maximum Penalty, Backtrack, Down To Nothing, No Turning Back, Take Offense, and Bottom Out. It was a serious bill for the NYHC faithful. More pictures and video from the mayhem lie below.

In semi-related news, Cro-Mags have a show coming up with Fucked Up at House of Vans. Cro-Mags played Bowery Ballroom on July 1st.

In more related news, Roger Miret (of Agnostic Front) will hit the road for a string of dates with Roger Miret and The Disasters. The week long trek is in support of the new LP Gotta Get Up Now and will include a stop at Trash Bar on August 19th. Full tour schedule is below.

Tickets are on sale now for Murphy's Law's annual Rocks Off Concert Cruise which takes place on August 10th. Hopefully they have more luck this year.

Shai Halud plays Party Xpo in Brooklyn TONIGHT (7/9) with Zombie Fight and many others.

Roger Miret dates, and videos and more pics from Black & Blue Bowl, below...

Gorilla Biscuits

Gorilla Biscuits needs little in the way of introduction for fans of hardcore. When they were ready, a pair of horn players came out and played the intro to "New Direction." This was an awesome touch, definitely better than playing a sample. After the intro, as the first few guitar notes to the song rang out, pandemonium exploded on the dance floor. In addition to "New Direction," the Biscuits played a wide selection of their most popular songs including "Standstill," "Good Intentions," "Sitting Round At Home," "High Hopes," and "Cats and Dogs," among others. They also managed to find time for two covers: "Do Something" by CIV and "New York Crew" by Judge. Anthony Civarelli partly dedicated the song to Mike Judge, who was in the audience, but Mike declined to perform the song with the band, much to everyone's disappointment.

Watching Gorilla Biscuits play, you'd swear it was 1991, not 2011. Every song sounded great, and the whole band was full of energy. For their last song, "Start Today," Civ invited the audience on stage to sing along: "There is no barricade here. There are no bouncers here. Trying to control something that should not be controlled is impossible. That is what this is about. You cannot control a tiger in the jungle. You cannot control gorillas in the jungle. We are the animals here. This is our jungle, so for the next two minutes, the stage is yours, the floor is yours, act like the fuckin' animals you are."

The audience took his words to heart, and quickly swarmed the stage, nearly overwhelming the band. They played on, as people crowded around them and flew over their heads. Surrounded on all sides, Civ relinquished the mic to the audience. Walter, who abandoned his guitar, climbed on top of the drum set with his microphone to play the harmonica part, and sing the final chorus with the audience." [Verbicide]

Gorilla Biscuits headlined the Black & Blue Bowl back on May 28th at Webster Hall. We'll have more pictures of the whole show coming soon, but for now check out more pictures, videos and the setlist from the reunited hardcore band's set (confirming much of what is written above), below...

Sick Of It All

Sick Of It All celebrated 25 years of New York Hardcore at Webster Hall on Saturday (3/26), playing to a sold-out Webster Hall with Snapcase, Merauder and Razorblade Handgrenade. For Snapcase, the show was their first appearance in NYC in three-plus years, since headlining Music Hall of Williamsburg as part of a Callum Roberts benefit. Snapcase currently has no other NYC dates in the near future, but those of you upset about missing out on Sick of It All are in luck; they have now been officially revealed as the special guest playing Black & Blue Bowl 2011 alongside Gorilla Biscuits, Agnostic Front, and many others. Tickets for that May 28th Webster Hall show are still on sale.

Webster Hall was an odd place to be on Saturday. The hardcore show, the Hull/Horseback/Batillus/Caltrop show at The Studio, and an "Awesome 80s Prom" were all going on at once in the mammoth venue. Pictures from the Hull show are on the way, but for now check out some more pictures and some videos from upstairs at Webster Hall, below...
