Grimes at Governors Ball 2014 (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
Grimes recently wrote a song with Blood Diamonds titled "Go" that was supposed to be for Rihanna, but when the pop singer turned it down, Grimes decided to keep it for herself and debuted it at Governors Ball. Now the studio version has been released and it's a big pop song (complete with an EDM-style drop) that you can definitely tell was written for a star. It's still got some Grimes-ness to it though. Check it out for yourself below. Not many details yet, but a new full length is in the works for Grimes too.
TPOBPAH at Summerstage in 2012 (more by Chris La Putt)
NYC indie pop band The Pains of Being Pure at Heart have been relatively quiet lately, but it's looking like that's about to change. Frontman Kip Berman has been instagramming guitar pedals lately, which hopefully means they're back in the studio, and Pains have also announced what will be their first hometown show in a while, happening on March 28 at Rough Trade NYC. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (1/17) at noon.
The band's only other currently announced date is New Orleans festival BUKU Music + Art Project, which happens from March 21-22 and also includes The Flaming Lips, Chromeo, Explosions in the Sky, Tyler the Creator, Pusha T, Schoolboy Q, Baauer b2b RL Grime, Danny Brown, Phantogram, Skream, Wavves, Big Freedia, Thundercat, Cashmere Cat, Blood Diamonds and more. Tickets for that festival are on sale now.
TPOBPAH recently released a belated video for "Belong" off their 2011 LP of the same name, which you can watch below...
Small Black at Brooklyn Museum in June (more by Jessica Amaya)
Today we've posted year-end lists by Andy from Cake Shop, Mark Eitzel, and James from Veronica Falls. Now we've got one from Josh Kolenik of Brooklyn chillwavers Small Black giving us a rundown of 12 singles he loved in 2012.
Based on Small Black's own sound, it's got an unsurprising amount of indie pop, R&B, electronics, and Young Chop-produced hip hop. But he also sneaks in the inclusion of some vintage-sounding psych folk courtesy of Jessica Pratt. Check out his full list of songs, along with streams and/or videos for each track, below...
Tanlines at House of Vans in June (more by Fred Pessaro // BBG)
Tanlines and fellow tropical pop synthesist Blood Diamonds (who have shared a bill in the past) have scheduled a last minute performance happening in NYC on Friday (10/19) at Le Bain with Making Time resident DJs Dave P and Sammy Slice. The show is presented by Urban Outfitters and takes place during CMJ (though it isn't an official CMJ show) and is free with RSVP. The show flier is below.
Tanlines will also headline their largest hometown show yet at Webster Hall on November 29. No openers have been announced yet. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (10/19) at noon. All Tanlines dates (including a stop at FFF Fest in Austin) are listed below.
Speaking of Dave P and Le Bain, Dave is also one of the party promoter/DJ duo FIXED with JDH. They're celebrating their eighth anniversary at Le Bain on October 26. That show is totally free to the public and the flier is below.

Miguel/Jamie xx's crowd at MoMA PS1 - 8/4/12
This summer's Warm Up at MoMA PS1, a series featuring afternoon dance parties from forward thinking electronic musicians every Saturday in MoMA PS1's outdoor courtyard, continued this past Saturday (8/4) with sets from Jamie xx, Miguel, Lemonade, Sinjin Hawke, Pearson Sound, and Zora Jones. This one sold out in advance, and the line to get in was crazy long as usual. Many people who didn't have tickets showed up anyway and listened from outside.
Miguel performed a brief yet galvanizing set with his neon-clad backing band, delivering one of the few "concert" experiences of the evening and giving the thousands crammed into the gravel-floored courtyard something to scream about with a handful of weather-appropriate nü-R&B tracks off his forthcoming LP Kaleidoscope Dream in addition to a newly rap-infused performance of one of his well-worn covers, 2Pac's "I Get Around."Jamie xx at MoMA PS1 - 8/4/12
Meanwhile, for Jamie xx, Warm Up was one of two DJ sets he delivered this past weekend while in town in between The xx's Terminal 5 show last Thursday (8/2) and their Staten Island show, which is TONIGHT (8/6) at Snug Harbor Music Hall (sold out). Jamie premiered a new xx song during his set, and had the crowd going pretty nuts. After that show, he headed over to Manhattan to DJ a FIXED party at Le Poisson Rouge with John Talabot, who will be supporting The xx on many of their upcoming dates (none in NYC) and will return to LPR for a live show with Pional on September 27. Some videos of Jamie and John's sets from LPR are below.
Jamie xx wasn't the only one on Saturday's Warm Up lineup to keep the party going late into the night. Lemonade showed up in Williamsburg to DJ a party at Glasslands with Blondes and Rewards, and they killed it. Meanwhile, Sinjin Hawke was next door murdering 285 Kent with Egyptrixx, Elite Gymnastics, N0ms, Gobby, and MikeQ. Blood Diamonds, who had played Glasslands one night earlier (8/3) with Le1f and Gobby, showed up for a secret late set at the show. A video of Blood DIamonds' set from 285 Kent is below.
More pictures (unfortunately none of Sinjin Hakwe or Zora Jones) from Warm Up and all videos are below.
Lemonade at House of Vans - 8/2/12 (photo by Courtney Dudley)
Blood Diamonds recently released the 12" single for his track, "Phone Sex" (ft. Grimes), which comes with another track, "Ritual" and "Phone Sex" remixes by Unicorn Kid and Jensen Sportag. Now we've been treated to another remix of the track and this one comes from Brooklyn trio Lemonade, who just played House of Vans last night (8/2) with Washed Out and Chairlift (more pics from that show are on the way). You can stream the remix below.
Meanwhile, both Lemonade and Blood Diamonds have upcoming shows in NYC this weekend. Lemonade plays Warm Up at MoMA PS1 on Saturday (8/4) with Jamie xx, Pearson Sound, SInjin Hawke, Zora Jones, and Miguel, and will then head to Glasslands later that night (8/4) to DJ a free (with RSVP) party at the Brooklyn venue along with DJ sets by Blondes and Rewards. Advance tickets for this Saturday's Warm Up are sold out, but limited tickets will be available at the door, starting at 2 PM. After that, Lemonade's next announced NYC show is supporting labelmates Teengirl Fantasy at their record release party aboard a Rocks Off concert cruise on August 23 with Gatekeeper.

DOWNLOAD: Le1f - Dark York (ZIP)
Vancouver's Blood Diamonds (aka Michael Diamond aka Mike Tucker), who we profiled when he came to NYC for a Glasslands show in August of last year, will return to the Brooklyn venue almost exactly a year later for a show on August 3. The show is with NYC rapper Le1f. Tickets for that show are on sale now.
Blood Diamonds has since signed to 4AD, who will release his Phone Sex 12" on July 24. You can stream the title track from that maxi single, which features Grimes, below. It differs from his earlier tropi-pop singles and is dominated heavily by Grimes' vocals, but it's a great listen and the new 12" is one to look forward to.
Le1f (aka Khalif Diouf), who is also on the Glasslands show, released the Dark York mixtape earlier this year on Das Racist's Greedhead label. Le1f identifies on facebook as "GAYNGSTA RAP" and was featured in a recent Pitchfork article, "We Invented Swag: NYC's Queer Rap," so Le1f is definitely joining the increasing number of openly gay rappers, but as he points out in the Pitchfork article, he doesn't want to "make gay NYC rap 'a thing.'" He continued saying, "The whole 'room for one' mentality is homophobic... if the world is ready for a gay rapper, then they're ready for multiple gay rappers. If we were straight, no one would be comparing us."
Le1f's Dark York mixtape features a number of solid producers, namely Nguzunguzu (whose new Warm Pulse EP is out this week) and Morri$, and also includes a handful of tracks that Le1f produced himself. Thanks to those producers, the mixtape is mostly made up of dark, murky beats and Le1f sounds like the Danny Brown from hell with a far more subdued delivery than Danny's rambunctious shout, but one that's equally swagged out. You can download the entire EP for free above or stream it below.
Le1f will also play Warm Up at MoMA PS1 this summer on July 21 with Matthew Dear (DJ), Sepalcure MikeQ (who plays a RINSED party tonight (7/6) at the loft at 70 North 6th St. [above Public Assembly]), and JDH & Dave P. Tickets for that show are available.
Warm Up begins this weekend (7/7) with sets from Todd Terry, Light Asylum, Nguzunguzu, Trust, and Arca ft. HBA (tickets). Ahead of this week's show, Arca made a FADER/MoMA PS1 mix which you can stream below.

Greek electronic duo Keep Shelly in Athens will be making it over to North America this fall to play Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, TX. While they're here, they'll play some other dates too. A full tour hasn't been announced (yet?) but you'll be able to catch them in NYC on November 18 at Bowery Ballroom. Tickets for the NYC show go on sale Friday (8/26) at noon with an AmEx presale starting Wednesday (8/24) at noon.
I've never actually been to Greece, but if the coasts are as gentle as Fleet Foxes describe them, these guys sound pretty befitting for a blissful evening on a Grecian beach. Dreamy female vocals swirl around lush atmospheres and head-nodding beats as the duo takes you on a trip through the Mediterranean. They've remixed Blood Diamonds and Porcelain Raft and have been remixed by Blood Diamonds, Maria Minerva, Memory Tapes, and others. You can grab MP3s of some remixes and KSiA's original work at the top of this post and check out some more remixes below.
They've also recently made a mixtape featuring Toro y Moi, Star Slinger, SLEEP OVER, Games, Blackbird Blackbird, and more, which you can stream below. A video for their most recent single, "Hauntin' Me," is also below. That single was released as a limited 7" b/w "Song to Cheer You Up" via Transparent this past February and is now sold out. They're also set to release a split cassette with Disclosure via Loud and Quiet on August 29, limited to 75 copies. Forest Family is another one of their label homes.

Das Racist, who DJ'd PS1 this past weekend, are releasing their first official album Relax on September 13 via Greedhead (artwork above). The album is the followup to the two mixtapes they released lat year, Shut Up, Dude and Sit Down, Man. Relax features production from Das Racist themselves, Patrick Wimberly, Anand Wilder (of Yeasayer), El-P, Diplo, Rostam (of Vampire Weekend), Blood Diamonds (who are playing Glasslands soon), and others. The album also features guest spots from Danny Brown, Despot, and Bikram Singh. Check out the lead track "Michael Jackson" along with the track's artwork below.
Das Racist at Pitchfork Festival (more by Dominick Mastrangelo)
Das Racist have some upcoming dates this summer, including the free Mad Decent Block Party in Philly and the free Afro-Punk Fest in Brooklyn's Commodore Barry Park on August 27. The two day Afro-Punk Fest, which Das Racist were recently added to, also has Cee Lo, Janelle Monae, Toro y Moi, Fishbone and many more. Schedule still TBA.
Das Racist will kick off a fall tour with Despot and Danny Brown at Bowery Ballroom in NYC on September 12. Tickets for the Bowery show, which is also the record release show, go on sale Friday (8/5) at noon.

Tanlines at the Whitney in 2010 (more by Diana Wong)
As mentioned, Tanlines will headline Warm Up at PS1 on August 27, with other sets from Nguzunguzu, Teengirl Fantasy, Sun Araw, and Physical Therapy. According to Tanlines' facebook, the band "will be playing a new set and this will be the launch of [their] next phase, with the album coming out in the fall."
Tanlines will also DJ at Glasslands on August 26, the day before they play PS1. The Glasslands show is with fellow tropical pop producer Blood Diamonds (not to be confused with Blood Orange or Diamond Rings). Tickets are on sale now.
The Vancouver-based producer Blood Diamonds (aka Mike Tucker) is set to release a new single "Grins" b/w "Move the Stars" this month on Transparent Records. According to Altered Zones, the single will feature a remix by Holy Other, who Blood Diamonds has also remixed. Grab "Grins" and Blood Diamonds' take on Holy Other's "Touch" above. He somehow turned Holy Other's dank swampy track into a sunny day at the beach. Should be interesting to see how Holy Other returns the favor. You can pre-order the single from Plastic in Paper. Also, grab two more older Blood Diamonds tracks and a remix he did for Apache Beat above.
All dates and another Blood Diamonds track below...
