Costumed one-man-band Bob Log III will be touring North America in June, July and August. For part of those dates, including NYC, he'll be joined by kindred spirit Molly Gene One Whoaman Band. They play NY shows on July 18th at Mercury Lounge (Tickets TBA) and July 19th at Knitting Factory (tickets TBA).
Bob's live show is an entertaining mix of slide-guitar fury and self-aggrandizing comedy. Videos and all tour dates (a band called the Pork Torta open in late-July/August) are below...

Bob Log III @ Mercury Lounge 5/17/09 (The Mightiest Crumb)

Bob Log III brought his slide guitar/human cannonball act to the Mercury Lounge last night (5/17). The one-man-band reprises tonight (5/18), again with opener Willem Maker, at Brooklyn's Union Hall. Tickets are still on sale. All dates HERE.
I only caught a small fragment of Maker's more subued, slide-guitar set. His newest release, New Moon Hand, out now on Big Legal Mess, recently got a favorable write-up in the NY Times, part of which is excerpted below.
At the Mercury Lounge, Bob Log III took the stage in a motocycle helmet and a full-body suit and played for over an hour. The jokes cracked throughout were crass and entertaining, but the music was riveting too. Log kept time with a kick drum, cymbal and sampler while burning through lightning fast slide riffs and soliciting the crowd for beers. Live, the distortion came way down to reveal the chops behind the helmet. No one made a "Boob Scotch" (that I could tell), but Log did succeed in provoking some crowd participation during "I Want Your Shit on My Leg."
Similar "I Want Your Shit On My Leg" antics from a show last summer (video), with that Willem Maker review from the times, below...

Bob Log III @ Southpaw in 2004 (more)

Bob Log III is an American, Slide Guitar, One Man Band. During performances, he plays old silvertone archtop guitars, wears a full body cannonball man suit, and a helmet wired to a telephone which allows him to devote his hands and feet to guitar and drums. The spectacle has been described as a guitar dance party, full of sweaty smiles, jumps and kicks. [Wikipedia]Bob Log III and country/bluesman Willem Maker are on tour through May. That trip includes a Sunday, May 17th stop at the Mercury Lounge (Tickets are on sale now.) And a show the next night (Monday, May 18th) at Union Hall.
Bob Log III's new disc, My Shit is Perfect, came out March 31st on Birdman Records. Maker's newest, New Moon Hand, came out in March as well, on Big Legal Mess Records and Fat Possum Records.
New videos by both Log and Maker, with all tour dates, below...

Bob Log III @ Southpaw, Brooklyn, NY - Oct 2004 (more)

Bob Log III is going on tour with Scott H. Biram this summer. Tickets are on sale for a show at Mercury Lounge and for one at Southpaw.
One of Bob Log III's more controversial antics is 'Boob Scotch', that is, scotch which has been stirred by a female (or male) breast. This practice was integrated into the aptly titled song "Boob Scotch" from the album Log Bomb, in which Bob Log sings "I think we need to sit down and talk, put your boob in my scotch. Come on get your tit in my drink, stir my scotch with something that's pink." Bob Log III often invites audience members to 'make' a Boob Scotch, asking them onstage to dip their breast in his scotch (usually pre-ordered from the venue's bar) after which he lifts his helmet slightly and downs the drink. Log has been known to dip his own breast in his scotch, especially in Japan, a modest nation and usually not willing to expose their 'Boob'. [Wikipedia]All tour dates below....

Akron/Family is going on tour. Bob Log III is going on tour. Akron/Family play really long, jammy, but fun shows. Bob Log III is interesting. They're both playing Bowery Ballroom together on September 30th, and tickets are on sale. I'm not sure what other shows they're playing together (if any), but all of the tour dates for both of them are below (you can match them up)....
