Com Truise at Sasquatch 2012 (more by Chris Graham)
Com Truise appear to be gearing up for a tour this fall, for which they'll be taking out some solid openers -- Bonde Do Role (who resurfaced as a 3-piece this year) and Poolside (who released their debut LP, Pacific Standard Time, this year). A full tour hasn't been announced yet but many shows have been revealed, including a CMJ show in NYC, which happens at Gramercy Theatre on October 20. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (8/24) at 10 AM with a Live Nation/Music Geeks presale starting Thursday (8/23) at 10 AM.
Com Truise recently contributed "Chemical Legs" to Adult Swim for their Singles Program. You can download that at the Adult Swim website or stream it, along with a list of all currently known dates, below.
Diplo jumping off MHOW's balcony - 8/5/12 (via Diplo)
The Mad Decent Block Party returned to NYC this past Sunday (8/5), happening for the first time in the newly-christened Williamsburg Park instead of South Street Seaport, where it's been in previous years. Unfortunately, due to the storm that hit NYC on Sunday which picked up during Erol Alkan's set, the party was shut down early before headliners Major Lazer (the project of Mad Decent label boss Diplo). Before the party did get shut down, we got sets by Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire, Bonde Do Role, Lunice, Riff Raff, Baauer, and more. You can check out some videos of the performances and the rain below.
After MDBP's cancellation, Diplo tweeted that Major Lazer would do an extra long set at the afterparty at Music Hall of Williamsburg, which also had sets by Erol Alkan, Lunice, and Jim-E-Stack. The party got pretty crazy, as you can see in the picture above of Diplo jumping off MHOW's balcony, but it didn't appease everyone. One angry MDBP attendee took to his blog to say, "Diplo (Major Lazer) invited the attendees from the free all ages event to a $10/21+ after show......Thanks a ton MAD DECENT." Granted, MHOW is also significantly smaller than Williamsburg Park and the party was announced way before the weather shut down the block party so it would've been hard to get in regardless, but he has a point that it doesn't totally "make up" for the cancellation. Major Lazer will be back in NYC for a much larger (paid) show on October 27 at Terminal 5 too (tickets).
Major Lazer at Governors Ball 2012 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
Diplo's Major Lazer project (which Switch is no longer a part of), who is set to play the Mad Decent Block Parties this summer, have just announced their own NYC show, which goes down on October 27 at Terminal 5. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (8/3) at noon. A full Major Lazer tour has not been announced yet but a few other North American October dates exist, all of which are listed below.
Meanwhile, we recently mentioned that more details for the summer's free Mad Decent Block Parties have been revealed, and that the NYC party will go down on August 5 at Williamsburg Park with Major Lazer, Erol Alkan, Bonde Do Role, Lunice, Riff Raff, Mr Muthafuckin' eXquire, Reptar, Zebra Katz, Bosco Delrey, Baauer, Kito, and Paul Devro. The party is free and all ages but RSVP is required.
Mad Decent has also just announced that they'll throw a Puma-presented official (21+) after party at Music Hall of Williamsburg that night (8/5). The only performers listed as of this post are Erol Alkan (who plays the party in Williamsburg Park) and "guests." Tickets for the party are on sale now.

Bonde Do Role at Bowery Ballroom in 2008 (more by Bao Nguyen)
Back in June, we mentioned that the Mad Decent Block Parties were returning this summer and then earlier this month, they revealed a list of artists, but didn't say who was playing each city. Now venues have been revealed for all five parties and the lineups for NYC Philly, and Toronto have been announced as well. The FREE NYC party will happen on August 5 at WIlliamsburg Park (in previous years it was at the South Street Seaport) with Major Lazer, Erol Alkan, Bonde Do Role, Lunice, Riff Raff, Mr Muthafuckin' eXquire, Reptar, Zebra Katz, Bosco Delrey, Baauer, Kito, and Paul Devro. The parties are free and all ages but RSVP is required. All announced lineups are listed below.
Speaking of Lunice, his collaborative project with Hudson Mohawke, TNGHT (pronounced "tonight") released their self titled debut EP this week (7/24) via Warp/Lucky Me. If you've yet to hear it, you can stream the entire thing below.
As for Bonde Do Role, the block party will be their first NYC show quite a while. You may remember that their original singer, Marina Ribatski left the band in 2007 and was replaced by two other singers, Ana Bernardino and Laura Taylor, who joined the band by winning an audition done with MTV Brasil. Ana has since left the band too and they are now a 3-piece fronted only by Laura Taylor. The new incarnation of the band put out their first album in five years, Tropical/Bacanal, last month via Mad Decent. The album was co-produced by Diplo and Filip Nikolic of Poolside (who have two NYC shows this week). The album features guest appearances from Caetano Veloso, Das Racist, Cecile, Rizzle Kicks, and The Death Set (who also has a NYC show coming up). The video for album track "Kilo" and a stream of another track, "Bang," which features Kool AD of Das Racist, are below.

I've been hesitant to fully accept the lineup change in Brazil's Bonde Do Role, so I didn't make a huge effort to get to one of the two NYC shows they just played (and I didn't personally go to Coachella), but after seeing these pictures and hearing about the shows from a few people (lots of "awesome"s), now I definitely don't want to miss them next time I have the chance. Wednesday night the show was at Europa. Last night it was Bowery Ballroom (May 15, 2008). More pictures from the latter below...

That new-ish Adam Green MP3 is up there because I just realized they were giving it away and it's too late to add it to the monster Adam Green post.
That new-ish Stereolab MP3 is up there because I just realized they were giving it away and it's too late to add it to the Stereolab tour dates post.
Mugison? I'm not sure how I feel about that (Icelandic) guy.

Then Josh wanted a veggie corn dog. As he munched, we listened to the cacophany of Brazilian hip hoppers Bonde Do Role-- whose sound I will equate to the foreign-language street fights outside my old apartment in Queens, combined with the bass thump of a thousand souped-up cars in the East Village on a hot summer day-- before moving to the Outdoor Stage for grownup time with Steven Malkmus and the Jicks.Bonde Do Role are now on tour and tickets are on sale for two NYC shows in May. More Coachella pics, and some videos, below....
TheDeathSet @ a VICE day party, SXSW 2008
TheDeathSet were yet another one of my favorite bands playing 10 million shows in and around Austin two weeks ago. I managed to catch them once. It was the daytime Friday VICE party, and I think I picked a good one because they ended the show with "thanks guys. it was just like home".There was lots of crowd participation - especially for the afternoon, and I agree it felt like home. (even though I've never actually saw them play in Baltimore, but I think Brooklyn/NYC is maybe their home away from home). Catch them in Brooklyn tonight (March 28, 2008) @ Glasslands w/ Ninjasonik. It's the Lolita Party...
Bonde Do Role's new lineup
Bonde Do Role follow the announcement of their Coachella appearance with the news of a run of U.S. tour dates from late April and the confirmation of their new line up. Featuring not one, but two new female singers who were chosen via auditions held in conjunction with MTV Brasil, Ana Bernardino and Laura Taylor will join the band for a ramped up set featuring new songs, covers, and old Bonde classics.Marina Ribatski (once injured & later doing very fine) officially left the band in late 2007. the 11th in a series where we asked comedians to tell us what was good this year....
Kurt Braunohler is one of the greatest, though sadly lesser-known, comedians in this city. His super-human comedic abilities cover everything from improv to stand-up to teaching to hosting to acting to being in videos. His first project was called Kurtbot which featured street comedy sketches and a website that delivered them to the masses. He then got involved in a street theater project called Chenguin. Following that, his work with Neutrino Video Projects got substantial acclaim and ended up traveling to the HBO US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, as well as to the Edinburgh Theater Festival in Scotland. These days he is better known as the co-host of the Hot Tub Variety Show with Kristen Schaal and co-star of the series Penelope Princess of Pets, also with Schaal. He also teaches classes at The Pit. And the stand-up I've seen him do lately is some of the funniest stuff I've seen in ages. Simply put, he's one of my favorite comedians around. Here's what he was into in '07 - Klaus

Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? - A highlight of my summer was driving into Montreal for the first time ever blasting this album (I know they're from Georgia, but still.) Every song on this album, I love.
Tegan and Sara, The Con - This year, I spent some time in a city that demands you sit in a car for long periods of time every day (it rhymes with "Smell-A.") I would have murdered many more people if not for this album.

If I didn't go to Austin this past weekend, I for sure would have tried to see Bonde Do Role at either the Museum of Natural History (9/14), or at the Music Hall of Williamsburg (9/15). How were those shows? I loved them at the Oya Festival (Aug 8) - WAY tighter and better than when I saw them the year before at Warsaw. The Norweigian crowd was going wild - it had just rained a bit - here are the pictures...
TheDeathSet @ Whartscape 2007 - July 21 (CRED)
If Todd P shows aren't your thing, but you want a taste of the Baltimore-via-Australia band TheDeathSet, then this Friday (July 27) is not only your chance to see them, but to see them for free at South Street Seaport with the legendary 'art-rock, synth-pop' band Suicide. In August TheDeathSet will play a bunch more shows including a few in Brooklyn and NJ, and then in October they're going on tour with Bonde Do Role.
Stream TheDeathSet's new CD "Rad Warehouses Bad Neighborhoods" right here. It includes remixes by Dan Deacon and Bonde Do Role. You can also download the Bonde Do Role remix as an 'aiff' file at their site. All tour dates below...

Next up for Diplo is a September tour that has him playing some dates with Switch (you know) - an impressive double bill for those who like to dance. All tour dates below....
