Heavy Cream @ Death by Audio in July (more by Leia Jospe)

Nashville's Heavy Cream release their debut album, Danny, on JEFF the Brotherhood's Infinity Cat label August 24 and you can download the catchy, rockin' "Watusi" from it at the top of this post.
Around the same time, the band will be heading back to NYC for another round of shows. The first will be opening for the Detroit Cobras on the Rock's Off Concert Cruise on August 20. They'll then play Union Pool on Sept 1 (with Boogie Boarder), Cake Shop on Sept 2 (with Unnatural Helpers), The Meat Locker in Montclair on Sept 4, The Rock Shop on Sept 6 (with Dinowalrus and Pterodactyl), and Death by Audio again on Sept 7.
Heavy Cream were here just a few weeks ago -- maybe you saw them at Death by Audio? The band are playing some shows to and from NYC, and all those dates are listed below, along with the cover art for Danny...

Fucked Up @ MWTX in Austin (more by Andrew Frisicano)

Lineups for Brooklyn's Northside Festival are coming together-- and some of the bigger shows (that aren't at Music Hall) are going to be at Greenpoint's Newtown Barge Park. First, Titus Andronicus, Cults and a special guest play an afternoon (1pm) show on Saturday, June 26th. Later that night, Liars, Fucked Up and High Places play the space (6pm). Then the next night (6/27, 6pm), Les Savy Fav performs with Polvo and Grails. Tickets to all three are on sale now. The shows are all ages (badges, which you must be 21+ to purchase, get you in too, capacity permitting).
Northside writes that the shows will be the first at the 1,500-capacity park space. Newtown Barge Park is a triangle of land at the corner of Franklin and Commercial Streets, and is part of the proposed plan (PDF) to expand Williamsburg/Greenpoint's waterfront park space.
The BrooklynVegan Northside show takes place the same Saturday as Titus --> Fucked Up/Liars, but at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Doors for that are 8pm, and it goes later. Tickets are now on sale.
Titus may DO NOT have another Brooklyn show coming up, on Thursday, June 3rd at Glasslands with Boogie Boarder. It has been cancelled. It was supposed to be a benefit for Neighbors Allied for Good Growth, a group frontman Patrick Stickles has talked about before...
Pitchfork: Best Purchase of the Past YearMaybe they'll reschedule it at a later date.Patrick Stickles: We can't take too much pride in the things we that own, can we? If I can get on my soapbox for a minute.... Isn't it much more important not what things we bought, but where we bought them? I'd love for you to remind your Brooklyn-based readership that they should make a point of not supporting the new Duane Reade that's moving in across the street from the historic Kings Pharmacy on Bedford Avenue. If you'd pass that along I'd appreciate that a lot. You can read a lot more about it at the website of this community group called Neighbors Allied for Good Growth. We all need to remember to vote with our dollars and take a stand for locally owned independent businesses, because that's what makes American capitalism great.
Grails has a new EP coming out. Grab an MP3 from that.
Fucked Up recently posted a new song that'll appear on a 12" split with Serena-Maneesh. You can get it above. Also, Damian from Fucked Up has been Internet debating the new Arizona immigration laws with fellow Canadian band Stars via Twitter and Stereogum.
All tour dates for Titus and Fucked Up are below...

Saxon Shore (photo by Geordy Peterson)

American post-rockers Saxon Shore hit back. It Doesn't Matter, the quintet's follow-up to 2005's The Exquisite Death of Saxon Shore is a welcome return to form for the band and their original leader Matthew Doty.Saxon Shore released their gorgeous Dave Fridmann-produced LP It Doesn't Really Matter last year. The song "This Place" from that album is available for download above. You can catch the band live (their only upcoming scheduled show) at the Knit on 2/5 as part of the Sounds Like Brooklyn Festival put on by BAM ("60+ shows. 15 venues. 2 weekends. Celebrating Brooklyn's best music and bands with shows throughout the borough.") American Dollar and The Abbasi Brothers open the NYC show. Tickets are on sale.Having gone through a long period of upheaval - be it line-up changes and relocations - the band spent four solid years as a unit before plucking up the courage to hit the Tarbox Road Studios Cabin out in Cassadega, New York.
Apt then, that the unearthing of It Doesn't Matter follows a line of melodic delicacy that recent post-rock efforts appear to have departed. Album opener "Nothing Changes" rocks gently into the onslaught of feedback drenched guitars while 'Bar Clearing Good Times' maintains an unexpected steadiness that other same-vein bands like Explosions In The Sky often make the habit of breaking from. -[Altsounds]
Les Savy Fav @ BAM - 1/29/10 (photo by Steven P. Marsh)

'Sounds like Brooklyn' kicked off last night (1/29) at BAM (the only venue hosting shows during this first weekend of the fest) with Les Savy Fav and Vivian Girls...
"To my surprise, [Les Savy Fav] played very tight rhythms that zagged all over the place but were not sloppy. I was reminded of times I had seen Modest Mouse, Built To Spill or The Flaming Lips, with the music being loose and jangly, yet deliberate and well-crafted at the same time. The band itself held my interest quite well, as they played the straight men to the antics of Harrington, who, instead of being a distraction, complemented the instruments rather well, reminding me at times of Jello Biafra with his voice and dialogue with the audience. Yes, he was a crazy looking fat dude running all over the stage and into the crowd, but his angry-goofy-gibberish song rants, energy, enthusiasm and sheer earnestness overcame my pre-judgment. At the start of LSF's set, Harrington dropped into the crowd beckoning people to stand, and it ended up being the right thing to do. Despite the opera house setting with assigned seating, it quickly became apparent that it would take a lot more than that to contain the force that is Les Savy Fav." [Qbertplaya]The fest continues tonight (1/30) at the same venue with a show by Rain Machine and Anti-Pop Consortium. Tickets are still available. The Antlers and Ra Ra Riot play the opera house venue on February 5th.

"OH GOD, THIS PARTY WAS A LOT OF EFFING WORK, BUT IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT. I'VE NEVER BEEN SO OBSESSED WITH THE WEATHER CHANNEL, PRAYING AND PLEADING FOR IT NOT TO RAIN. BUT IT ALL TURNED OUT FUCKING GREAT AND I FELL IN LOVE AGAIN WITH ALL THE BANDS WHO PLAYED. CHECK OUT THE NEW IMPOSE T-SHIRTS! - THANKS TO SEASICK MAMA APPAREL FOR PRINTING THEM.Despite the rain, Saturday's Impose show went on as planned at the BKLYN YARD on Saturday (8/29) (main difference being that "Party with Tables" became "Party with Tables and Tents"). More pictures from the day below...THANKS TO: BOOGIE BOARDER, FUTURE ISLANDS, AIR WAVES, SHARON VAN ETTEN, SILVER SUMMIT, ZS, SCREAMING FEMALES, PSYCHIC ILLS, SEASICK MAMA, VIVA RADIO, COLT, CINEMA 16, AND ALL THE VENDORS!!

Future Islands @ the 1896 in January (more by Lori Baily)

This Saturday (August 29th) Impose Magazine is hosting "Party with Tables," a day-show benefit for 826NYC at the Brooklyn Yard. The diverse lineup includes Screaming Females, Zs, Sharon Van Etten, Future Islands and Psychic Ills. There's also going to be an evening program by Cinema 16 afterward (that's the film series that pairs silent movies with new live scores from contemporary musicians). On top of those, there'll be a record and craft fair running all day. Tickets are on sale.
The gig is actually a pretty good window into the coming weeks, as most of the bands on the bill have their own gigs on the horizon. Zs are actually playing tonight (8/28) at the Cake Shop. They'll be at Glasslands on September 3rd and Death By Audio's MAZE in October (not surprising as Zs member Sam Hilmer is one of its organizers).
Screaming Females have a September 1st show at the Mercury Lounge (tix) with other shows planned too.
Sharon Van Etten has a show at Joe's Pub on September 4th with Meg Baird (tix are on sale). She's also opening tour dates for Great Lakes Swimmers, which also has NYC stops.
Future Islands play later the same night (as the Yard show) at Market Hotel with Celebration and Sam Mickens' Ecstatic Showband & Revue.
And Psychic Ills are going on tour with the Butthole Surfers this fall. All tour dates for the mentioned bands, with the show's full lineup and a flyer, are below...
Ninjasonik @ MHOW Jan 2009 (more by Zach Stern)

Just down the street from the Danbro Studios Warehouse in the Bushwick/East Williamsburg part of Brooklyn is a (new-ish?) loft space called The Jungle (286 Meserole St) which has hosted some events in the past, and which is scheduled to host a big show that caught our eye on Saturday, August 22nd. Bands listed (though not totally confirmed) include Ponytail, Japanther, The DeathSet, Double Dagger, Team Robespierre, Ninjasonik, Juiceboxxx, Cerebral Ballzy, Boogie Boarder and Snakes Say Hiss.
The most unconfirmed band on that bill is Ponytail, who are more-officially playing a summer show with Mission of Burma and Fucked Up at the Williamsburg Waterfront on July 12th (or are they?). The Waterfront show is a few days before Ponytail go out on tour with Yeasayer (dates below).
Many of those other bands have other NYC shows scheduled sooner too. On June 28th, Studio B will host a day party with Team Robespierre, Ninjasonik, Hearts Revolution, Anamanaguchi and others. Japanther, Ninjasonik and Deathset will be at Lit Fuse Cyclery (409 Willoughby, Brooklyn) for a show on July 4th. Then, Ninjasonik and Japanther team up again for a show at the Whitney on July 11th.
Ninjasonik is also playing with the newly reformed 2 Live Crew on July 25th at Studio B. Tickets are on sale. 2 Live's new record, Just Wanna Be Heard, is out now on iTunes.
Yeasayer is playing a free show in Manhattan over the summer. All/more tour dates for everyone, below...
