Tragedy headlined the swanky Le Poisson Rouge on Saturday (5/12), part of a string of shows in celebration of their new LP Darker Days Ahead. The record, which was available in test press form at the venue, marks a bit of a departure towards sludgier pastures, and slower tempos. The Bill-Anderson produced effort is currently only available via the band but will soon surface at distros around the world via their own Tragedy imprint.
Boston Strangler provided direct support for Tragedy, ripping a set of Boston-straight-edge style favorites to the insanely receptive crowd. The dependably great Perdition and the impressive Philadelphia punks Sickoids opened the evening, both delivering powerful sets which were an excellent primer for the rest of the night's troublemakers.
The show was the same day as the Decibel Magazine tour at Irving Plaza, which featured Behemoth, Watain, The Devil's Blood, In Solitude and Evoken (pictures on the way), and Assymmetry with Grafvolluth at Acheron.

Tragedy at Red 7 last week (more by Tim Griffin)

Portland d-beat favorites Tragedy return to NYC with a whallop of a supporting cast in The Boston Strangler, Sickoids and Perdition at Le Poisson Rouge Saturday (5/12). Tickets are still available. The band is touring in support of their new sludge-infested LP Darker Days Ahead out now at their shows and available via a distro near you in the near future. Check out more pictures from their recent Austin show HERE.
In case you were curious, no Portland's Tragedy will NOT be opening for a screening of Saturday Night Fever at Prospect Park on 7/14 but Tragedy, the "all metal tribute to the Bee Gees" will. The full Celebrate Brooklyn Prospect Park concert schedule was announced earlier this week and also includes a Mission of Burma show among many others.
Check out some live video of the Portland Tragedy in action below.

Tragedy at Emo's during Chaos in Tejas (more by Keith Marlowe)

Tragedy will release their new Billy-Anderson-produced LP Darker Days Ahead officially next week, but the band has been dropping copies of the release at shows on their current tour. Look for that release at a merch table near you at the dates below, including the NYC show at Le Poisson Rouge on 5/12 with Boston Strangler, Sickoids and Perdition. Tickets are still available for that one.
Tragedy played the Echoplex in LA last week and you can watch all of their set which includes a fair number of new tunes, below.
Tragedy's Louisville show is with Shaved Women (who play will NYC too), and Coliseum who will be without long-time bassist Mike Pascal who, as discussed on BV Chicago, has left the band.
Speaking of Coliseum, Ryan Patterson (of Coliseum)'s band, Black God, will be hitting the road for a string of tour dates including TWO in NYC, and both on May 26th. The first, a day show, will go down at ABC No Rio while the second, a night show, will be "announced day of show!" No word on exactly what or where that show might be, but stay tuned.

Natur @ Public Assembly

Thrashy Brooklyn crew Natur headlined a mostly doom bill at Public Assembly on March 1st, featuring appearances from Richmond's Windhand, Providence's Pilgrim and Boston newcomers Magic Circle. The show, part of a larger tour for Natur & Pilgrim, was the first of a set of dates before both hit SXSW and a sort of celebration for Pilgrim's well-executed Misery Wizard LP.
For Magic Circle, which features members of Rival Mob, Boston Strangler, Innumerable Forms, Mind Eraser, and more, the Public Assembly date was their live debut. So far the band has nothing more than a demo to speak of, but we'll keep an eye out. In the meantime, keep on the lookout for Boston Strangler's debut LP Primitive (out now via Fun with Smack Records) and catch them live with Tragedy, Perdition & Sickoids. Tickets are on sale for this 5/12 show at Le Poisson Rouge.
Windhand tour dates and pictures from Public Assembly are below.

Dropdead at Europa (more by Keith Marlowe)

Chaos in Tejas have announced another round of bands for their 2012 shindig (first round here), including rare appearances from legendary post-hardcore band Moss Icon (a one-time only reunion), as well as Japan's Reality Crisis and Skizophrenia (their only US dates), and repeat offenders/favorites like Dropdead, Municipal Waste, Midnight, Ares Kingdom, Puerto Rico Flowers, Xeno & Oaklander, Thou, the Rival Mob, Boston Strangler, Crazy Spirit, Brain Killer, Power Trip, Wiccans (who just played one of the final shows at Emo's), and many many others. A full list of additions and the new flyer is below.
Since the original announcement, two previously announced bands have dropped off the original lineup: Mexican black metal band Nyogthaeblisz disappeared from the lineup after their anti-Islamic/Semitic/Abrahamic stance and involvement in known NSBM (National Socialist) label Satanic Skinhead was pointed out by a few blogs. That led to Antisect and The Mob even threatening to not play. Word then spread that Disma's Craig Pillard released nazi-glorifying records under the name Sturmfuhrer. Disma then dropped out as well due to "the drama" that ensued. Craig would not comment on the matter, but other members of Disma say he has changed.
In related news, Thou will hit the road for a string of dates with The Body this week on the West Coast. Both bands will also be at the inaugural Gilead Media festival (chaired by the Gilead Media label) in Oshkosh, Wi on 4/28 and 4/29 which will feature appearances from (in alphabetical order) Arms Aloft, Aseethe, Ash Borer, Baby Boy, Darger + Plague Mother, False, Fell Voices, Get Rad, Hell, Loss, Mutilation Rites, Northless, Protestant, A Scanner Darkly, and Sleepwalker. More details are available at the site.

You might have missed it, but Boston Strangler released an incredible demo with the ultra-limited Outcast cassette last year. The band, which is primarily the brainchild of vocalist Ban Reilly (also of the incredible Scapegoat) (get their latest now... highly reccomended), has enlisted members of Mind Eraser, Rival Mob, Social Circkle, and a few notable others to churn out some incredible early 80s-style negative hardcore. The band plays a rare show at Acheron on September 17th with Beware (mems of Mother of Mercy). check out some live video below.
The show cancellation count keeps growing. The previously discussed cancellations of shows at the Acheron (including Victims/Defeatist on Sunday), is joined by the latest victim of Irene, Vreid, Kampfar, Necronomicon, and Grafvolluth at Europa. As more shows cancel, we'll keep you posted.
Corrupted have released their previously discussed new LP, Garten Der Unbewusstheit. Look for it at your favorite distro like Aquarius or Crucial Blast.
Unsane is working on new music.
Yob is releasing Live at Roadburn 2010 via Burning World Records on CD/DVD on September 1st with vinyl to follow. Preorder it now. For those curious about the video, stream it in its entirety below.
Easy Action (with John Brannon of Negative Approach) will team with Kicking Spit (who we previously profiled) and Foster Care to play Acheron on September 26th. Negative Approach makes their return to Fun Fun Fun Fest in November.
Krallice played House of Vans on Wednesday, and in addition to their previously discussed show at Union Pool on 9/17 with Urfaust/Black Anvil, the band has added a show at Death By Audio on 9/14 with Wolves In The Throne Room and Thou.
DC's Give will headline Acheron on 9/9 with Devotion and Too Many Voices (mems of Kill Your Idols).
Karma To Burn are back on the road, and hit Saint Vitus with awesome Black Pyramid and Bezoar on Sept 8th. Full tour schedule is below. KTB's newest album, V, is out now.
Stream three new Speedwolf songs from their forthcoming LP on Hells Headbangers.
