Asobi Seksu at the BV-CMJ Day Party (more by Amanda Hatfield)
Asobi Seksu

Asobi Seksu have two NYC shows in their sights, Highline Ballroom on January 27th (tickets) supporting White Lies and February 17th at Mercury Lounge (ticket info forthcoming). The latter is more than just another show for the NYC band, as it will serve as both their record release party and tour kickoff in support of their new LP, Fluorescence, due two days prior on Polyvinyl. Download the first single "Trails" at Polyvinyl's site..

Asobi Seksu's tour will see them head to the West Coast with Brahms and oddly, terminate their tour in Sante Fe, New Mexico before starting back up again a week later in Nashville with Cults. Is that SXSW I smell?

Meanwhile, Brahms play Brooklyn Electronic Music Fest along with Javelin, Kid Sister, and a gang of others on 12/18. Tickets are still available.

Full tour dates and some video is below.

Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival 2010

It's a little bit later this year, but the third annual The Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival will take place across two venues in Williamsburg on December 18th: Music Hall of Williamsburg and Public Assembly (if you didn't know, they are right next door to each other). The "fest" will feature acts from across the digital spectrum ("emerging and established bands, DJ's and producers from the Boroughs and beyond") including Sinden, Kid Sister, Javelin, Tittsworth, Class Actress, Brahms, Lemonade, and many others, with more to be announced.

Tickets are currently on "Super Limited Reduced Price Advance" sale.

Lemonade meanwhile is out on tour with their True Panther labelmate Delorean. Two NYC shows happen very soon and both are still on sale.

Bear Hands are opening for Jamie Lidell at Webster Hall on Saturday night (9/18). If you don't already have a ticket, here's a little more incentive:

"As an additional bonus to all of his amazing and supportive fans, Jamie is offering everybody who has pre-ordered a ticket to any show on his fall world wide tour a special collection of remixes done by friends like Tiga, Micachu and Tuneyards, as well as from band mates Guillermo Brown and Andre Vida. This deal applies to all standard headlining shows September 6-November 20. Local promoters will provide all purchasers with a download link on the day of concert, and all hard ticket purchasers will receive a link from the box office on the show day by presenting their ticket. "
All Jamie Lidell tour dates are below.

Savoir Adore, Brahms (who have some CMJ shows comin up), and Bear Hands played sets outdoors at Rockefeller Center as part of Fashion's Night Out last week. Lionel missed Savoir Adore, but shot the other two bands. Those pictures and all dates continue below...

Here We GO Magic

Here We Go Magic have announced an October 13th headling show at Bowery Ballroom with The Love Language (tickets on sale Friday at noon).

For HWGM, that's three days before they leave on tour with Dr. Dog. For the Love Language, that's less than a week after they get back from tour with Local Natives.

The above downloadable HWGM remix was done by Philadelphia's Sun Airway whose album Nocturne of Exploded Crystal Chandelier will be released by Dead Oceans on October 26th (that makes Sun Airway and HWGM label cousins). A track from that album is up there too.

Sun Airway open for BRAHMS and Class Actress at Mercury Lounge on Thursday, August 19th. Tickets are on sale.

HWGM's last NYC show was an 826NYC benefit at Coco66 with Chuck Klosterman. The next show in that "one band + one author" series happens this Thursday night, August 19th, and features a full electric set by Phosphorescent (who are now label-mates with Sun Airway). The author speaking at that show is Sloane Crosley. Tickets are on sale.

The other track up there is HWGM covering Neon Indian who, like Dr Dog, and Local Natives, just played Governors Island.

All dates below...

Brahms @ 450 Union Street, Brooklyn, NY - July 15, 2010
Monotonix

I felt weird as soon as I walked in the room, which had a girls giving out candy standing by two Toyotas, opened up like they were in a showroom. There was a DJ playing club music, and signs that read Toyota and the Village Voice everywhere, because everyone knows the only thing more important than throwing a party is constantly reminding people WHO is throwing the party. On the other hand, there were pretty women giving out free Cabo Wabo tequila, so I decided to have some drinks and try to relax. As I watched people take photos of themselves in a car turned into a makeshift photo booth, I still felt more like I was at a mall than about to witness one of the most unique touring rock bands in the world.

Brahms was the opener, and they seemed a curious choice to me - not only their music, but because the band stood almost motionless behind orange pieces of plexiglass or something. They were the exact opposite of what was gonna happen when Monotonix came out. I listened to a couple songs, and went backstage to watch my friend Haggai (the drummer) do push-ups in Garfield underwear.

Monotonix

While getting warmed up for the show he told me they had just come from Chicago where they finished a third recording session with Steve Albini. They had originally planned on doing a single, but it went so well they went back two more times and ended up recording an entire album, still untitled, that will drop this winter on Drag City. "I'm really excited about this record, I feel like it's the first time we really got the live show energy into an album format," he said. Monotonix formed in Tel Aviv, Isreal, in 2005. This record will be their third.

Neon Indian

Neon Indian announced a bunch more tour dates around their appearances at Sasquatch in May and Bonnaroo in June. Those new dates include a June 4th gig at LA's Natural History Museum and a June 17th headlining show at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn (if I had to guess, I'd say tickets will go on sale this Friday). There are also two dates opening for Massive Attack. Massive Attack play Terminal 5 in NYC on May 11th and 12th (tickets still on sale for both). Neon Indian will open the one on the 12th and then travel with the band to Boston to open for them at House of Blues.
