Beirut's upcoming shows include Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, and a Northside Festival show in McCarren Park with Sharon Van Etten. Tickets for the Brooklyn show are still on sale. Beirut's recent performances include a big, public, sold out one at the Wellmont Theater in NJ, and a very small, private one in Stratosphere Sound Recording Studio.
Before any of those, back on March 27th, Beirut played three songs at a Brooklyn loft party in celebration of the new Red Hot Tropicália tribute CD, Red Hot + Rio 2, that we discussed HERE and HERE. Like Beirut, Superhuman Happiness, The Phenomenal Handclap Band, Brazilian Girls, and Forro In The Dark, all have songs on the forthcoming Red Hot charity comp, and each of those bands performed the song they have on the CD (and actually, they each performed their song more than once, as the performances were being filmed to help promote the release, and they wanted the videos to be good). The setlist and more pictures from the party, below...

"The 2010 Lollapalooza line-up is official: Soundgarden, Green Day, Lady Gaga, Arcade Fire, The Strokes, and Phoenix will headline, joined by Social Distortion, MGMT, Jimmy Cliff, Hot Chip, and The Black Keys. With 130 bands on this year's bill, its sure to be a weekend long feast for the ears. After extremely accurate early leaks and then much teasing, Lollapalooza oficially announces this year's lineup. Check it out below...
It's a monumental year for Lollapalooza, filled with homecomings, reunions, and first-times. Soundgarden, 1992 and 1996 Lollapalooza alumni, return to the Lollapalooza stage for their first performance since 1997. Green Day will rock Grant Park sixteen years after their first Lollapalooza appearance. While Lady Gaga will headline the festival only three short years after playing the BMI stage at Lollapalooza 2007.
Arcade Fire returns to Grant Park, having played the reincarnated Lollapalooza in 2005. This is the first Lollapalooza for The Strokes - and also their first show in four years. And making their Lollapalooza debut: Phoenix." - Lollapalooza

Brent at work (at Pop Montreal) (run comrade)

Pop Montreal kicked off last night (9/30). It's not too late to drop everything and take a car over the border. I haven't been in a few years, but non-stop show hopping in a great foreign (but so close) city was a great experience. Plus, if you get there by tonight (10/1), you can check out the BrooklynVegan showcase featuring Micachu & The Shapes, Clues & Slim Twig! Other highlights of tonight include Think About Life, Fever Ray (who just completed a two-night run at Webster Hall), Mono (who also just played two NYC shows), Screaming Females (who are on tour and played Death by Audio Saturday), Loudon Wainwright III (who just had his family join him for a show at Highline Ballroom), Butthole Surfers (also on tour), The Intelligence (recently in NYC), and Sister Suvi (played Sycamore on Tuesday).
Last night's Pop Montreal schedule highlights included sets by Amy Millan (touring to NYC soon), Matt & Kim (playing a Halloween show with Weezer), The Phenomenal Handclap Band, and Jay Reatard...
"Usually arriving 20 minutes late to a Pop Montreal show makes you right on time. But I biked up to La Sala Rossa near 1 a.m. Thursday morning to find a crowd spilling into the street. Not a good sign. "Is it over?" I asked some friends, referring to Memphis punk upstart Jay Reatard's 12:30 set. Yup, came the reply. "Did he start early?" Nope. "But it was proper," said Ninja Tune's Jeff Waye. "Twenty-minute set - there's not many bands I want to see for more than 20 minutes."" [The Gazette]To be more specific, last night's Jay Reatard show in Canada was the third stop on Jay's Shattered Records tour. The fourth stop on the tour is TONIGHT (10/1) at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC (11pm doors). Also on the bill (last night and tonight) are Shattered Records artists Nobunny, Hunx & His Punx, Box Elders, and Useless Eaters. All dates and the tour poster below.
The Phenomenal Handclap Band (pictured to the right) were set to play with Man Man and Brazilian Girls at The Beach on Governors Island Friday night (10/2), but that show has been canceled.
Shows in NY and Boston cancelled!!Immigration issues?
This is really sad for us to announce, but the shows in NY and in Boston, OCt 2nd and 6th had to be cancelled, due to immigration issues. its a real drag, but we promise we'll play there soon, trying to make it before the end of the year.we'll keep you posted. - Brazilian Girls
The Phenomenal Handclap Band are still opening for Chromeo at Irving Plaza on October 16th though, and they just announced their first big headlining show. It's December 11th at Bowery Ballroom, and tickets are now on AmEx presale with general sale beginning Friday at noon. No openers are listed yet. All dates below.
Meanwhile, Bruce Springsteen kicked off his five-night run at Giants Stadium last night. It was one of two shows that he'll perform the entire "Born to Run" album at.
A good night of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band for the first of five shows at Giants Stadium on Wednesday night. A 29-song show that lasted 3 hours and 14 minutes, one of the longest shows timewise of this tour.Willie Nile came out and joined the band for a few songs during the encore. The tour continues Friday night when the E Street Band will play all of "Darkness on the Edge of Town". If you're going consider all transportation options. Video of the now-60 Bruce Springsteen discussing the birthday-related story (nightmare) in the middle of "Growin' Up", and other videos, below...It was nice to have the show start off with a new song. I believe it's the first time Bruce has played a unreleased song (not including Working On A Dream which he played at a political rally last year) since debuting "Long Walk Home" with the Sessions Band in London in November of 2006.
Of course the highlight of the evening was hearing the entire "Born To Run" album from start to finish as well as a classic 1978-style story in the middle of "Growin' Up." [Star Ledger]

Man Man's last NYC show was free and near water. Man Man's next show will also be near water. They open, along with The Phenomenal Handclap Band, for Brazilian Girls at the Beach on Governors Island on October 2nd. Tickets go on sale Friday at noon.
Erykah Badu and Janelle Monae played Governors Island on August 4th. N.E.R.D and Mos Def also have shows coming up there in the future.
Man Man has no other upcoming shows scheduled at the moment, but the Handclap Band can also be found opening for Friendly Fires at Le Poisson Rouge tonight (August 12th). Friendly Fires also play MHOW in Brooklyn tomorrow (August 13) with the xx. FF played Lollapalooza over the weekend...
"While their set inspired the crowd to dance, the band left behind the electronics and opted for a jazz backing, which included trumpet and sax. It was far from what I expected, but in the best way possible. Vocalist Ed Macfarlane danced until he looked close to passing out. He ran along the fence, ramped up fans, jumped until his legs seemed ready to give out and poured his heart and body into a set that quite honestly, it was entirely too hot to be performing. Friendly Fires were a brilliant start to the closing day of Lolla, and I was eager for the remainder of the afternoon and evening." [Chicagoist]More FF dates HERE. The Brazilian Girls have teamed-up with the legendary David Byrne to release an English-language version of the song "Losing Myself." Byrne duets with lead singer Sabina Sciubba on the new version of the song, available exclusively through iTunes on March 24.In related news, David Byrne is now confirmed for the Dark Was the Night concert. Bon Iver was also recently added. The only previously-rumored band now in question is Grizzly Bear. The National, Dirty Projectors, Feist, Dave Sitek, Sharon Jones, and My Brightest Diamond are also all on the May 3rd Radio City Music Hall bill, and who knows who else they will get to join. An official message reads that artists "will perform songs from the Dark Was The Night' compilation", and "The show will also include mini-sets and collaborations by various artists." Tickets are still on sale.Sciubba explains that the song is "a journey through New York City's subway, streets, crowds, nights and clubs. Everywhere you go, you leave something behind: your scarf, a shoe, a memory, your money, an ear, your friends, your head ...until you end up being light as a feather and you have nothing left but your freedom."
The original version of the song, recorded in French, was released last summer on the Brazilian Girls latest full length album New York City (Verve Forecast).

Studio B (NewYorkShitty is still pissed and made this picture)

"I don't want to be associated with marijuana, but I do want to be associated with not doing what people want me to do," said Sabina Sciubba, the seductive Italian-German lead singer of Brazilian Girls, as she lit up a joint on stage at Studio B during Friday's party for the club's new rooftop level. Her multilingual, electro-lounge performance, along with a gamine outfit of red tights under a see-through tutu, an Obama T-shirt, and white plastic sunglasses, literally brought down the upstairs crowd. The neighbors may have successfully put a curse on salad dressing representative Spank Rock, but they couldn't stop the new Studio B rooftop from opening this weekend. Brazilian Girls played their show on Friday, and the Erol Alkan shindig happened on Saturday. How were they? How is the roof?Heavyhanded guards manning a candlelit staircase at the back of the venue kept the rooftop from getting too packed before and after the New York quartet's performance, but could do nothing to prevent the upstairs cocktail menu from selling out fast. "Interdisciplinary creative team" Andrew Andrew sipped matching Coronas amidst the palm trees dotting the 9,000 square-foot space, complete with an extra-long bar, skyline views, and DJ booth. Coming soon: a retractable glass covering that will keep crowds coming to Greenpoint's outskirts year-round, eternal lack of taxis notwithstanding. [BlackBook]
