"At the sold-out Sasquatch, bands holding down the headliner spots haven't necessarily turned out to be the biggest draws. Sure, My Morning Jacket played to a mostly packed house on Saturday, and Massive Attack was overwhelmingly solid on Sunday despite a not-so-full amphitheater floor, but the band drawing the most populous, most stoked, most deserved gathering was unquestionably Vampire Weekend." Brett WeibachI would like to share with you some of the best news to reach my ears in months. San Francisco based comedian Brent Weinbach will be doing a rare, approximately 45-minute headlining set at the Slipper Room in NYC. Normally, comedy showcase Sweet graces the Slipper room on Tuesdays, but host Seth Herzog is out of town on July 15th, so he has bequeathed the stage to Brent.

San Francisco underground sensation Brent Weinbach does an extended headlining set in New York for one night only with his unique brand of unconventional and bizarre stand-up comedy. Brent was recently awarded the Andy Kaufman Award at the HBO Comedy Festival in Las Vegas, tours with the Comedians of Comedy, and was featured at last year's Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle.

With John Mulaney and Jay Larson.

SHOWDATE: Tuesday, July 15, 2008
SHOWTIME: 8:30pm
SHOWPLACE: The Slipper Room, 167 Orchard St., New York, NY
ADMISSION: $10.00

The last time I saw him he did a short opening set for a lame, clueless, and unreceptive crowd at Comix over a year ago. Needless to say I have been desperately hoping and praying for him to come back and do a long assed set somewhere. Prayers=answered. Seeing Brent live is a one of a kind experience that I really cannot recommend enough. His website appropriately describes him as deadpan, silly, obscure, unconventional, smart, stupid, post-modern, grass roots, Berlin, 1980's, tennis, bike riding, Virgo, Rygar, etc. I absolutely would not chance waiting until the day of the show to get tickets.

Our pals over at The Sound of Young America have a great Brent-centric blog post that is totally worth checking out. The Sketchfest pics link on there is busted, so if you're interested in seeing the pics they speak of click here. A video and a few more tour dates below...
