German electronic project Roosevelt was supposed to tour the US around SXSW, including a NYC show that would have happened Tuesday (3/11) at Glasslands, but unfortunately all non-SXSW dates had to be cancelled due to visa issues. Refunds for the NYC show available at point of purchase.
Roosevelt will still make it to SXSW though, where one of their shows is the free Thursday BrooklynVegan day party at Red 7. They go on at 4 PM, before a headlining set by Little Dragon.
In related news, UK dance rockers Breton were also supposed to come to the US for SXSW, where one of their shows would have been the free BrooklynVegan Friday day party. Though unfortunately, like last time they attempted to come here, this trip has been cancelled due to visa issues too. At the moment, their NYC show for May 16 at Glasslands is still on (tickets).
Television @ Rough Trade, November 2014 (more by Dana [distortion] Yavin)
Now in its 32nd year, the 2014 edition of Canadian Music Week happens in Toronto from May 6 - 10. The festival/conference (not unlike SXSW) has released its initial line-up which includes M.I.A., Tegan & Sara, Ellie Goulding, Television, Neko Case, OFF!, The King Khan and BBQ Show, No Age, Woods and more. Wristbands and festival badges are on sale now.
On the conference side of things, speakers include deadmau5, Nile Rodgers, Amanda Palmer, Bruce Cockburn and more. The full Canadian Music Week 2014 initial line-up is listed, along with a flyer, below...
UK band Breton, who were supposed to play NYC at Glasslands this week but had to postpone due to Visa Issues, have rescheduled that show. But it's not for a while. Breton's new date is May 16 at Glasslands. Tickets are on sale, and if you purchased for the previous date, those will be honored, or refunds available at point of purchase. The only other North American date for Breton at the moment is Boise, ID's Treefort Fest in March, so SXSW seems likely as well. Stay tuned for other dates.
By that time, Breton's new album, War Stories, will be out. New single "Envy" just got a remix by Gramme (whose album from this year not enough people heard), and they put their signature fuzzed bass and stomp to the track. You can stream that remix below.
Treefort Music Festival will return for its third annual year in 2014 from March 20-23 across various venues in Downtown Boise, ID. The initial lineup was just announced and it includes Run the Jewels (who also just announced a free NYC show), Built to Spill, Breton, Saintseneca, SubRosa, Uzala, Warm Soda, The Joy Formidable, Boyfrndz and more. 4-day passes (and a few other ticket options) are on sale now.
In other Built to Spill news, someone listed "Built To Spill Perfect From Now On Studio Master Tapes 10" x 1/2" Metal Reels 15 IPS RARE" on, of all places, Etsy! The description reads:
Incredibly rare. It's not everyday you come across a piece of real music history. These are the only master tapes for this album. One of a kind, these are not recorded from album to tape. These are the original master recordings for Built To Spill's 1997 LP Perfect From Now On. These are recorded to 4 count 1/2" Ampex Gold Studio Masters. However not every track on the album appears here and vice versa. They contain the initial studio recordings without remaster, mixing, and overdubs. Pre-engineered and mixed by Warner Brothers. This is the raw studio recording. Highest grade tape and reels. These are breathtaking! If you're a fan of BTS or Northwest music, consider this, it's like finding the the "Velvet Underground" of Idaho's unreleased acetate. Thanks for looking. Check back often, we add new stock daily to our shop.Unfortunately though, this item is now sold.
I'm selling these as a document to the making of an album, I do not claim to own the rights to the music contained on these reels and am selling the reels as found objects.

Bad news, good news time for fans of UK quintet Breton. The band, whose new album is out in February, were supposed to play Montreal and NYC next week (Glasslands on 12/13). Unfortunately due to Visa Issues the band are going to have to postpone their trip. It's a bummer, as Breton's new album, War Stories, is a considerable step-up from their first LP. The band are coming back for SXSW in March so hopefully they'll make a pitstop in NYC on their way to or from.
On the plus side, Breton had made an exclusive mix for BrooklynVegan for their trip next week. While the shows aren't happening, you can listen to the mix -- featuring Mount Kimbie, Nicolas Jaar, No Regular Play, Samiyam, Beacon, and more -- below.

UK dancerock outfit Breton will release their second album, War Stories, in February. Two singles have been released off it so far: the pulsing "Got Well Soon" (shades of Hot Chip, in a good way), and the brand new "Envy" which is a little more in line with the angular sounds of their first album. You can watch the video for "Got Well Soon" and stream "Envy" below.
The band are making a quick visit to North America next month, with one show each in NYC and Montreal. Breton play Brooklyn's Glasslands on December 13 with Glass Gang. Tickets are on sale now.

You may know Breton from the remixes they've done for Maps & Atlases and Local Natives, or the audio/visual work they've done for Tricky, but they've also been releasing EPs of their own material. Now they've got a debut full length, Other People's Problems, set to come out on April 3 in the US and March 26 in the UK via FatCat. The album pulls from two rather different, but distinctly UK styles of music. They've got a mix of James Blake-ian beats and the tense vocals of UK dance-punk groups like Klaxons and Foals. Check out the video for "Interference" off the album, which they wrote, filmed, and directed themselves, below. The album artwork and tracklist are below too.
