Sondra Sun-Odeon will release her debut LP Ætherea on November 20. Just like the album title suggests, the NYC vocalist/songwriter creates somber yet ethereal compositions that bring to mind moody, late-60s/early-'70s UK folk, as well as more recent artists like Jesse Sykes or Damien Rice. You can help Sun-Odeon celebrate hew new LP next week by attending her record release show at Public Assembly on November 14 where she'll be joined by CC Carana and Bee and Flower. Tickets are available at the door.
Ætherea features guest shouts from names like Helena Espvall (Espers), Leyna Marika Papach (JG Thirwell) and Ben McConnell (Beach House, Papercuts, Brightblack Morning Light). You can stream the new song "Golden Bird" below as well as check out a live video of the song "Samarkind."

Brightblack Morning Light have a set of Arizona/California dates and two NYC shows planned for May and June. The group plays The Studio at Webster Hall on Wednesday, June 10th (tickets) and Brooklyn's Studio B on Thursday, June 11th. Zomes, the project of Lungfish guitarist Asa Osborne, opens both. No general admission ticket info for the Studio B show yet, but we think it's safe to say that it is part of the Northside Festival (4-day festival passes are still on sale). Stay tuned for more details as we get them.
BBML's latest record, Motion To Rejoin, came out in September 2008 on Matador. The MP3s above are two tracks from that disc. The group most recently visited NYC on January 21st, as part of the Laurie & Friends show at BAM featuring Laurie Anderson, Dirty Projectors and others.

"This past weekend, I got a chance to see Brightblack Morning Light in Austin, Texas. It was such a wonderful experience to finally see them perform. Motion To Rejoin came alive alongside tracks from Brightblack Morning Light. Their performances of "Everybody Daylight", "Summer Hoof", and "Oppressions Each" were my absolute favorites from the night, but every song was equally amazing." [naturalismo]Last night (11/17) BML played Le Poisson Rouge (I realize I never format this venue's name the same twice) in NYC. Tonight (11/18) they do it again at Southpaw. MP3's, tour dates, videos and stuff are HERE. More pictures from the LPR show below..
As previously noted, Brightblack Morning Light play Le Poisson Rouge tonight/Monday and then again in NYC on Tuesday at Southpaw. Their new album, Motion To Rejoin, is out now on Matador (2 songs for download above) and you might have seen them on one side of the cover of the new FADER (if not, the picture is right up there too with the same issue's podcast). Cokemachineglow says,
The criticisms leveled against Brightblack Morning Light are so obvious that they seem almost underhanded: yes, Nabob Shineywater and Rachael Hughes create ridiculous myths about themselves; yes, they're obsessed with crystals and rainbows and every new age/hippie cliche out there; yes, they only play one speed and it's really really slow. Every review seems to start with the backstory, mention offhand the band's extraordinary ability to incorporate soul and blues into a gorgeous syrupy drone, then attach a 3/5 or something as if they're obliged as perceptive critics to dock marks due to all the bullshit...All dates and a video below...
"If we are playing your town & you have some new information specifically on local environmental justice issues, please approach the band's vending table with any printed pamphlets explaining the issue with ways folks can take action. Also look for the Defenders Of Wildlife Journal, available free at our table. If you are a journalist working with our Matador/Beggar's Publicist, feel free to mention a local environmental issue in your state you'd like our comment on." [BML]Brightblack Morning Light are going on tour in November that brings them (le) poisson rouge on November 17th and Southpaw the next day. Their new album, Motion To Rejoin, is out September 23rd via Matador. Two MP3s from it are linked for your convenience above. All tour dates below...
