After getting a nice profile boost on Daft Punk's smash 2013 album, electronic dance music pioneer Giorgio Moroder is fully back in action and will release a new album via Sony Music next year. The record is packed with guests, including Britney Spears, Sia, Charli XCX, Kylie Minogue, Mikky Ekko, Foxes, Matthew Koma, and more to be announced. Moroder says:
Dance music doesn't care where you live. It doesn't care who your friends are. It doesn't care how much money you make. It doesn't care if your 74 or if you are 24 because... 74 is the new 24!Strangely enough, "74 is the new 24" is also the title of the first single from the record, the video for which just premiered via The Creator's Project. Directed by Jai Lewis, it makes cool use of CGI rotoscope animation. As for the song itself, not unlike "Moroder's Theme" which was released as an Adult Swim single this summer, it is reminiscent of his Midnight Express soundtrack with a little Daft Punk disco thrown in as well.
Watch the video at The Creator's Project.

Beyonce was seen just kind of chillin with Jay-Z at Monday night's Nets game at Barclays Center (where Taylor Swift is not playing) (that was a heads up for Stereogum). Maybe she was thinking about how she is the highest paid woman in music this year according to a new Forbes list which also includes Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift, who just made headlines for pulling all her music off Spotify (to make more money?), and who Kendrick Lamar covered, sort of:
The ongoing Simpsons "Greatest Guest Stars" action figure line is adding Aerosmith, Tom Jones, Weird Al Yankovic, Elvis Costello, and astronaut Buzz Aldrin to the growing collection. This "fourth wave" of characters will be available in October, and can now join Hugh Hefner, James Brown, Yao Ming, Tom Hanks, Kid Rock, The Who, Britney Spears, Mark Hamill, Lucy Lawless, Tony Hawk, Penn and Teller, Bret Hart, Stephen King, Leonard Nimoy and R.E.M. in your display case.

Cloud rap-turning-pop producer Ryan Hemsworth just announced that he'll be touring North America this year with Cyril Hahn, who is signed to the unstoppable PMR Records (Disclosure, Jessie Ware [who he's remixed], Dornik, etc). That tour hits NYC on October 5 at Dark Disco @ 88 Palace. Tickets for that show are not on sale yet, but you can check Ticketfly for updates.
Hemsworth also recently dropped two new tracks. One is a remix of A$AP Rocky's "Thuggin' Noise," which he mashes up with Britney Spears' "Everytime," and the other is a new track with singer LIZ, "Day N' Nite," which sounds pretty consistent with his love of both glitch and pop like Britney Spears and The Backstreet Boys.
You can stream both of those tracks, along with Cyril Hahn's recent "Perfect Form" single featuring Shy Girls, and the list of all tour dates, below...
This letter, signed by a ton of artists and pictured above, is set to appear in an ad in Billboard:
We are big fans of Pandora. That's why we helped give the company a discount on rates for the past decade.Pink Floyd, Down, Primus, Dead Kennedys (with our without Jello?), Nas, Alabama, Sheryl Crow and many more big major label names signed this (or someone signed it on their behalf). Check out the full list below, and head to fairpayforartists.com for more information on their point of view..
Pandora is now enjoying phenomenal success as a Wall Street company. Skyrocketing growth in revenues and users. We celebrate that. At the same time, the music community is just now beginning to gain its footing in the new digital world.
Pandora's principal asset is the music.
Why is the company asking Congress once again to step in and gut the royalties that thousands of musicians rely upon? That's not fair, and that's not how partners work together.
Congress has many pressing issues to consider, but this is not one of them. Let's work this out as partners and continue to bring fans the great musical experience they rightly expect.
The issue is that Pandora is supporting the Internet Radio Fairness Act which they say will "help end the long-standing discrimination against internet radio". Artists are mad because that possibly means less money for them, but Pandora and other Internet radio providers argue they can't stay in business the way things are now.
Industry analyst Bob Lefsetz reports today on the signing of Internet sensation Rebecca Black to Universal Records...
Universal Republic, to be exact. Home of Chumbawamba as well as the distributor of Big Machine, home of Taylor Swift. In related news, Britney Spears is back and scheduled to play Nassau Coliseum and the Izod Center in August (that's actually true), and Rebecca Black is the new owner of funny website Funny or Die (or so they claim). Happy Friday!
Actually, this is a joint venture between Republic and Big Machine. In other words, Scott Borchetta is going to Taylorize Rebecca.
Rebecca's gonna move into Scott Swift's house. Environment is everything. Scott's been there and done that, he knows how to get Rebecca on the right path.
Then there's the credibility tour. Taking a page out of Taylor's book, Rebecca's going to go on a radio station jaunt, just her and her guitar, proving to PDs that she can actually sing and play.
Meanwhile, the best songwriters known to man are concocting cuts that will truly catapult Rebecca into the stratosphere.
Dr. Luke has been saving a track for the right artist. Ke$ha has already recorded backgrounds, she was the lead singer, but the track was too good for her marginal talent, Rebecca's now got the slot. And rumor has it Weezy is going to rap in the break...
...Unlike Justin Bieber, Rebecca's voice is not going to drop, there are no issues of puberty. However she will not be getting breast implants immediately, they're going to wait to see if she fills out before any plastic surgery is done. Britney Spears is Rebecca's mentor. Having made a full emotional recovery, Britney wants to insure that Rebecca doesn't make the same mistakes she did...

"Gee whiz, man. Ozzy sold more solo albums than Sabbath? Wow, I guess that automatically means Ozzy's solo music is better, hunh?Last night (8/25), Heaven & Hell (previously known as "Black Sabbath, The Dio Years") shared a building with Britney Spears. That building was Madison Square Garden, and for Britney it was the 2nd of 3 sold-out nights in a row in the arena. For this incarnation of Black Sabbath, it was their only night in the not-quite sold out theater. See above. More pictures below...
That's YOUR math. Not mine.
By comparison, I guess Eminem and Britney Spears make better music than both of them, hunh?

FORBES: Then what are the challenges for the next five to 10 years? The interview, done by Forbes in light of the Ticketmaster/Live Nation deal, goes on to discuss Radiohead, U2, festivals, ticket prices, Coldplay, The Jonas Brothers, and Katy Perry.
AEG's Randy Phillips: In 2009 and 2010, our biggest challenge is the economy. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. I put two tours on this year--Britney Spears and Taylor Swift--and they both blew out. However, at some point this massive unemployment is going to bite us. I think it's going to happen around June or July, when we start to put tickets on sale for the summer. We're trying to determine what level of staffing and overhead we need for a decreased business model. That's the biggest short-term challenge.
FORBES: What about long term?
Randy Phillips: My biggest concern honestly past the economy is where the headliners of tomorrow are going to come from. That's scary. The record industry has so many of its own problems in terms of sales of music and how to make money on it, so they're not really breaking acts at the rate we're used to. At some point, supply and demand is going to catch up to us. The sweet spot in touring going forward is going to be the 5,000- to 7,000-seat theaters. I think the consumer would rather spend more money on something that means something to them in a more intimate setting.

Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has vowed to stop reporting on artists signed to SonyBMG after the record label issued a lawsuit against the gossip website.Gossip tour dates HERE.
Writing on his website, Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, said that artists such as Justin Timberlake, Adele and The Gossip were now considered "dead to us".
"These are some of our favourite musicians," he said.
"It really, truly pains us not to talk about them. But, it is something we have to do!" [Gigwise]
16 yr old Jamie Lynn Spears isn't the only one
Popstar, tabloid favourite, chat show host. Lily Allen will soon be able to add mother to that list after the singer confirmed she is pregnant with her first child.
A spokesman for the 22-year-old said the pregnancy was at a "very, very early stage" and confirmed the father is Allen's boyfriend Ed Simons, one half of the Chemical Brothers.
Allen, whose single Smile went to number one last summer, has spoken on numerous occasions about her desire to start a family and leave music behind, in some accounts by the age of 25. She recently told the Sunday Times: "I'd like to live in the country and have a walled garden, and chickens and pigs."
As well as confirming the pregnancy, however, Allen's spokesman said that her second album, the follow-up to 2006's Alright, Still, would be released next year as originally planned.
Simons, 37, and Allen have been together since September of this year and are said to be "thrilled" by the news.[Guardian]

I have to finish what I started, and I guess that would be compiling the world's biggest collection of people dressed as Amy Winehouse for Halloween. I was already up to 92 pictures. By the end of this post you'll have seen another 166. Some are great, and more than a few paired Amy with her boyfriend Blake Fielder-Civil. This photo falls into both of those categories....
Even more looked less like Amy, and then there were many Amys that decided to hang out with Pete Doherty instead of Blake - a pairing that makes a lot of sense from the English musician drug addict tabloid point of view. This picture falls into both of those categories....
Pete Doggerty & Amy Doghouse
In related news,
After Amy Wino's hideous performance at the MTV Europe Awards last night, she was booed when she accepted an award for Artists' Choice. Pete Doherty immediately came to her defense. Then there was Amy with Lily Allen...
He was asked what advice he would give Wino, "I wouldn't give her any. She's fine. It's all bollocks. People should leave her alone. I went for a drink with her earlier today and she's totally fine. Perfectly healthy and happy.
"People are saying she's out of control, but she's not. She's a sensible girl and she knows what she's doing. She ain't doing nothing wrong." [dlisted]
and even Amy with M.I.A....
Now we'll get to more Amy's in a second, but first: To answer my own question, "no", Amy is no longer playing the MTVu Woody Awards or Saturday Night Live due to visa issues. Oh well - not a big loss considering how scary her last live appearance was. That video, and a zillion more Amy impersonators, below.....

Beastie Boys, Madonna, Leonard Cohen, The Dave Clark Five, John Mellencamp, Donna Summer, Afrika Bambaataa, The Ventures and Chic are the 2008 Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame nominees. It seems hip hop is well represented, but there's no Radiohead, and there's no metal.
Mark Ronson's new album Version contains a Radiohead cover, and one of Britney Spears who luckily lost custody of her children, except maybe it isn't lucky because she lost that custody to Kevin Federline.
Radiohead & The Pipettes are both from the UK, and are both loved by Pitchfork. Thom Yorke scored a stunning victory against The Pipettes in 2006 when he walked away with the prize for "best vinyl artwork". To make matters worse, now the Pipettes have had to postpone their tour.
Speaking of female artists from the UK, Radiohead coverer KT Tunstall doesn't think Thom Yorke should abandon his career or shut up, but Noel Gallagher of Oasis thinks he should. Oasis has been posting new videos on YouTube to promote their new DVD called "Lord Don't Slow Me Down" - out November 6th on Universal. KT Tunstall's new album Drastic Fantastic is out now on Virgin - some people like it, and some people don't, but it is a known fact that almost everyone likes Radiohead.
Radiohead's new album In Rainbows will be released in just nine days. How much did you pay for your copy?
MTV.com is now streaming the VMAs in their entirety, so if you missed them like me, now you can see Britney Spears' awkward return to lip syncing followed by Sarah Silverman making fun of her, a Kanye West performance, Foo Fighters, Mark Ronson, Miss Teen USA South Carolina (was that a diss on vegans?), etc...
