Tennis at the Bell House in March (more by Jessica Amaya)

Tennis will follow their debut LP, which came out earlier this year, with the album Young and Old, which comes out on February 14 via Fat Possum. The album was produced by Patrick Carney of The Black Keys (who have two MSG shows with Arctic Monkeys in March), who also produced the recently released single, "Origins," which you can stream below.
Tennis will tour in support of the new album in February and March, coming to NYC on March 3 at Bowery Ballroom (two days before an actual game of Tennis happens inside Madison Square Garden). Tickets for the Bowery show are on sale now.
The duo also recently recorded two covers; one being of The Zombies' "Tell Her No," and the other of Broadcast's "Tears in the Typing Pool." You can stream both of these covers below.
Speaking of Broadcast, whose singer Trish Keenan tragically passed away earlier this year, group member James Cargill is working on a new Broadcast album which will use vocals that Keenan had recorded before her death. In an interview with Under the Radar, James said, "Trish left a lot of tapes, four-tracks and stuff, and I've been going through those. It's difficult, and I'm connected to it at the same time. It's wonderful, but I'm also feeling a sense of loss." He's also working on a soundtrack to the Peter Strickland film Berberian Sound Studio, which he and Keenan had begun together.

We lost a great one today -- Broadcast's Trish Keenan. An official statement from Warp's website:
It is with great sadness we announce that Trish Keenan from Broadcast passed away at 9am this morning in hospital. She died from complications with pnuemonia after battling the illness for two weeks in intensive care.Broadcast were last here in October 2009 when they toured with Atlas Sound. Their 2000 debut The Noise Made by People is one of the great albums of the '00s, due in no small part to Keenan's icy coo. All their records are worth checking out. So sad, too soon, she'll be missed. Some Broadcast videos after the jump. Our thoughts go out to James, Martin, her friends and her family and we request that the public respect their wishes for privacy at this time.
This is an untimely tragic loss and we will miss Trish dearly - a unique voice, an extraordinary talent and a beautiful human being. Rest in Peace.

Dent May @ BV-CMJ 2009 (more by Chris La Putt)

A few nights earlier, I tried and failed to see Dent May at a late-night show, but I figured I'd give it another shot, so I headed over to the Cake Shop after the BrooklynVegan CMJ show at MHOW Thursday night, and was delighted to see that they were running on schedule. I thought I was tired at that point, but I've got to hand it to Dent May and his friend Bobby for their dedication to the cause. "We drove 20 hours straight to be with you. Our car got towed. We've been threw a lot of shit, and we love it," May said by way of introduction. A quick look at Bobby's zombie-like stare as he sat, waiting for the show to start, revealed just how tired he was. In addition to their lengthy sojourn to New York, it was their last show of the week and the third of the day. Luckily, their music is upbeat and undeniably catchy. When they started to play, they sprang to life, and many of the people in the audience began to dance.
Dent May doesn't have any more dates on his schedule, but he is on the lineup of the just-announced All Tomorrow's Parties curated by Animal Collective taking place May 13th-15th at at Butlins Holiday Centre in Minehead, UK. Full initial lineup announcement below...

Atlas Sound @ MHOW in October (more by Toby Tenenbaum)
Bradford Cox brings his Atlas Sound project to NYC for a show on Wednesday, February 3rd at the Bell House. tickets are on sale.
It's one of two dates currently booked for the group. The other is a February 26th show in San Francisco.
Over the weekend (12/12), Bradford posted a 2005 Deerhunter CD-R, Carve Your Initials Into the Walls of the Night, as a free download on his blog. He writes: "It features only me and Moses and is very experimental in nature. This was during our "tape phase" when we would often play shows as a duo (or as a trio with colin) playing only tape machines and vocal loops." The recording is linked above. Its tracklist, more info, Bradford's favorite albums of 2009, and tour dates below...

Broadcast / Bradford
One of the bigger tours that came through NYC during CMJ is the Atlas Sound / Broadcast one. Tuesday night it was at Le Poisson Rouge in Manhattan. Wednesday it was Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn.
Broadcast hit the stage with seventeen mintues of trippy synth noise brought on by two Dr. Samples and some pedals. They had swirly black and white projections while the audience rocked on their heels in anticipation, waiting to see where all this witchcraft would go. The dude wore a nice patterned sweater and the woman wore some white flowy madness.I talked to a lot of people that didn't enjoy Broadcast. After their floating through about twenty minutes of Broadcast's pscyhedelic sound pudding, the audience was treated to the hits. They played "I Found the F" and "Black Cat" and some other poppy stuff that I couldn't identify.
For the last song, lead singer Trish Keenan pulled out a three stringed Eastern folk guitar to play some harsh yet sweet drones while white capped drums repeated driving the audience into a meditative sway." [wilkinism]
The Selminaires opened the show and were Bradford's backing band for Atlas Sound. More pictures from Music Hall below...
