Kim of Matt & Kim reacts to the news of The Thermals playing THREE NYC-area shows around their Terminal 5 date (more by Jessica Amaya)
Kim

Seething with an unquenchable jealousy due to their future tourmates The Thermals adding THREE shows in their hometown, NYC's Matt & Kim called their agent to enact revenge, and they did it! Matt & Kim will play their own headlining show at Music Hall of Williamsburg on May 25th. Tickets are on Fan Club presale now, AmEx presale begins Wed (5/4) at noon, and regular sale starts Friday (and it will probably sell out much quicker than the Thermals' shows at the Bell House).

So far, no reports have come in of The Thermals reaction to the news at Maxwell's over the weekend (they probably didn't know yet), but maybe it will be a different story when they play the NYU event on Thursday (5/5) at Le Poisson Rouge (advance tickets available for NYU students only).

Matt & Kim go on tour with The Thermals a week after the MHoW show. Lets hope they settle their differences before then or at least before the pair play a sold-out Terminal 5 on June 29th. (Note: I hope you know I'm kidding about their differences.)

Look for Matt & Kim on the Brooklyn Bridge TODAY (5/3) (see above Tweet). All tour dates and some video of what happens when Matt & Kim get angry (their "Cameras" video) is below...

the Rooftop Films opening on May 15th (more by Ryan Muir)
Rooftop Films

Rooftop Films is off and running with its summer series. But that's hardly the only outdoor movie series in NYC, though it might be the only one that costs money.

Hudson River Park's Take Me to the River '09 will present RiverFlicks, which shows movies for "adults" on Wednesdays starting on July 8th and films for kids on Fridays starting July 10th. That film series accompanies the park's RiverRocks shows. Bands appearing at RiverRocks include Yeasayer, Ted Leo, Matt & Kim, Radio 4 and Extra Golden.

The SummerScreen series, which ran last year in McCarren Park Pool, returns this year, but in the McCarren Park ball fields. Those films run Wednesdays starting July 8th. Movies include Fame, Reality Bites, and Evil Dead 2.

Bryant Park Summer Film Festival screens films on Mondays starting June 15th. Brooklyn Bridge Park's Movies With A View series kicks off July 9th and runs every Thursday through August.

All the above-mentioned events (barring Rooftop Films) are free and open to the public. All lineups and locations below...

Boredoms under the Brooklyn Bridge

The Boredoms (& 74 friends) played a free 77 drum "BoaDrum" show under the Brooklyn Bridge in the DUMBO section of Brooklyn, NYC on Saturday 7/7/07 @ 7:07 for about 77 minutes almost two hours. I unfortunately was one of the thousands that did not get in. According to the extremely heated comment sections HERE, HERE, and HERE, there were about 4000 people who did get in. I walked away only blaming myself for showing up so late. I didn't even realize until afterwards that those who arrived as early as 3pm didn't even get in, and I totally sympathize with the people who waited on line for hours just to find out the place was at capacity - that obviously should not have happened.

By the time stupid-me arrived, the line was still huge, and the police had just started to take control of the door. Everyone else associated with the event was left completely powerless against the guys in uniforms. Nobody was getting in - even some guy who was "with the Boredoms", press, a volunteer who had left or something - NOBODY. I was sad, but decided to make the most of it. I hung-out outside - listening, walking around, sitting on the rocks by the water, and taking pictures. About 45-60 minutes into the show I went back to the front entrance to find at least 200 people filing out early. "Excellent!", I and everyone else at the door thought, "one out, one in", but NOPE. The cops refused to even let in the diehards who never left their spots on line throughout the entire event. THAT was the most frustrating thing for me. It made no sense. They could no longer blame capacity - they (the cops) just felt like being dicks - even lecturing the pleading crowd, "blah blah you should get to free concerts early blah blah talk to my boss not me blah blah...". You could tell they were loving every minute of it.
