Mac DeMarco & co. making out and crowd surfing
Mac Demarco
Mac Demarco

Before the night was over, Mac crowd surfed, told funny stories in between songs using voice that sounded a little like Wolfman Jack, sang at least 15 songs such as the irresistible "Annie," "Cooking Up Something Good," "Rock and Roll Night Club," "I'm a Man," "One More Tear To Cry," and "Viceroy," did a brief cover of The Beatles' "Blackbird," and brought his girlfriend Kira up on stage to dedicate "Still Together" to her. [According 2 G]
Captured Tracks labelmates Mac DeMarco and Naomi Punk brought their tour with Calvin Love to NYC on Friday (3/1) for a sold out show at Music Hall of Williamsburg with Tonstartssbandht. Mac and his band brought their usual quirky stage antics (which include making out with each other) and their crowd-pleasing loungey guitar rock. But if you haven't seen Naomi Punk yet, their set was one of the most surprising on the bill. The bass-less trio is a lot grungier live than on record, and more so than any other band on that lineup, which made their set stick out (in a good way).

Calvin Love

As mentioned previously, Edmonton, Alberta's Calvin Love is going on tour with fellow Canadian Mac DeMarco, including an NYC show at Music Hall of Williamsburg on March 1. Naomi Punk is also on that bill and $10 tickets are still available.

Calvin's debut album, New Radar, is out now and is a late night synth-n-twang affair that would probably sound good while driving through the desert or whatever Lynchian fantasy you might have. We've got the premiere for the video of "Missions" which features some stop-motion animation and other trippy visuals. Watch it below.

The Strokes

SXSW is no doubt a great way to see a lot of bands in a short amount of time and can be a lot of fun. But it can also be a little much for some. If you'd like to see many of the same bands but in a more genteel setting, you might be interested in The Savannah Stopover which happens the weekend before SXSW (March 7 - 9) in at various clubs in Savannah, Georgia. Over 100 bands will play, including Of Montreal, Merchandise, Mac DeMarco, Chelsea Light Moving, Hunters, Braids, Delicate Steve, Turbo Fruits, Ducktails and loads more.

Tickets ($30 per day or $75 for three-day pass) are on sale now and more info is at Savannah Stopover's website. The full announced lineup is below.

Mac DeMarco

Mac Demarco, who will be here next week with Ty Segall, has announced a March tour surrounding his appearance at SXSW in Austin. Most of the tour is with Captured Tracks labelmate Naomi Punk and fellow Canadian Calvin Love. The tour hits NYC before SXSW at Music Hall of Williamsburg on March 1 with Eola also on the bill. Tickets, reasonably priced at $10, go on AmEx presale on Wednesday (1/23) at noon with the regular on-sale happening on Friday (1/25).

If you're unfamiliar with opener Calvin Love, he released his debut album, New Radar, via Autumn Tone back in November and is sort of electropop lonely highway music. You can stream the whole album below.
