Animal Collective at Governors Ball 2013 (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
Animal Collective have been out on the road lately, hitting festivals like Bonnaroo and NYC's Governors Ball. They were supposed to return to the NYC-area this weekened (7/12) for Camp Bisco, but unfortunately the band have been forced to cancel all of their July dates. A statement from the band reads:
Hey AC fans,No replacement for AnCo's Camp Bisco set has been announced yet, but stay tuned for updates. The fest began today and is totally sold out.
Due to illness, we will unfortunately not be able to perform our upcoming July tour dates, including the Camp Bisco and Forecastle festivals. We deeply apologize and tried our best to make it work with an alternate set, but ultimately we didn't feel like we were giving fans what they deserved from an Animal Collective show. We are working on rescheduling the non-festival dates as soon as possible. Again we send our sincerest apologies to fans anticipating these shows, especially considering the cancellations earlier this year.

Producer Chris Malinchak, who currently resides in NYC, makes the sort of music reminiscent of the time in the '90s when house was finding its way into pop music and onto the charts. And Chris is cracking some charts of his own, with his new single "So Good To Me." The track hit #2 in the UK Top 40 Singles and the UK Top 40 Dance Singles, only losing out to Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" in both categories. Not that chart positions necessarily determine a song's worth, but from the appeal of this song it's pretty easy to see why it's getting so much love, and similarly to fellow house revivalists Disclosure, it's not without its arty ambitions either. Check out the song below.
Chris played NYC a few times this year, and though he doesn't have any upcoming shows in the city scheduled at the moment, he will be playing in the area when he appears at Camp Bisco which goes down from July 11 to 13 at Indian Lookout Country Club in Mariaville, NY. So if you're going to that festival, it'd be worth catching his set. He's part of a diverse lineup which includes names like Passion Pit, Killer Mike, El-P, Bondax, Baauer, Animal Collective, Danny Brown, RL Grime, and more. Tickets for the festival are on sale now. It's Chris Malinchak's only announced date at the moment.

Squarepusher is coming to the NYC-area for Camp Bisco, which goes down this year from July 11 to 13 at the Indian Lookout Country Club in Mariaville, NY with Passion Pit, Animal Collective, Toro y Moi, El-P & Killer Mike, Baauer, Ryan Hemsworth, Dan Deacon, Danny Brown, and more. Right before that though, Squarepusher will play his own show in NYC at Le Poisson Rouge on July 9. It's a much more intimate show than his 2012 show at Terminal 5, and tickets for it go on sale Friday (5/3) at 10 AM with a LPR member presale starting Thursday (5/2) at 10 AM.
Passion Pit at MSG earlier this month (more by Dominick Mastrangelo)
Camp Bisco is known for a long history of booking jam bands and dance music, but has branched out in recent years. This year's lineup has an especially interesting slew of non-jam. Back in May, drill & bass master Squarepusher announced a North American tour which included a TBA NYC show set to happen on October 30. Well it turns out the NYC show will actually be on November 1 and it happens at Terminal 5 with a great list of openers; Bonobo (DJ), Holy Fuck, and Mount Kimbie. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (6/29) at noon with an AmEx presale starting today (6/27) at noon. All Squarepusher dates are listed below.
Squarepusher released his new album, Ufabulum, in May and it's a pretty solid one. It opens with "4001," which is just about the only song that sounds like classic Squarepusher, and is then followed by, "Unreal Square," which brings in a bit of brostep bass wobble. The rest of the album sees Squarepusher diving into nutty jazz fusion and unstoppable breakbeats. You can stream three of its tracks below.
Speaking of Mount Kimbie, they've signed to Warp, the label which Squarepusher also calls home, and currently at work on their second album which will be released on the label. The Terminal 5 show appears to be their only announced North American date at the moment.
Holy Fuck and Bonobo will be in NY even sooner for Camp Bisco, which goes down from July 12-14 at Indian Lookout Country Club in Mariaville, NY. They'll be joining a lineup which includes Tycho, Simian Mobile Disco, Skrillex, Amon Tobin ISAM, Big Boi, Crystal Castles, Yacht, Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire, Shigeto, FaltyDL, Thundercat, and more. Tickets for the festival are still available. The full lineup is listed below.
In related news, You can also catch Holy Fuck frontman Brian Borcherdt in NYC right after Bisco with his new project, Dusted, who play Glasslands on July 15. Tickets for that show are still available.

Simian Mobile Disco at PS1 in 2011 (more by Erez Avissar)
Simian Mobile Disco released their new LP, Unpatterns, this week via Wichita Recordings. It's a bit of a return to form to their dancefloor-ready debut, Attack, Decay, Sustain Release, rather than the in your face electropop of 2009's Temporary Pleasure. Not as many guest vocalists on the new album, and when they do appear on Unpatterns, they're backgrounded and sparse, like Jamie Lidell's contribution to "Put Your Hands Together." Check out a stream of the entire album below.
Simian Mobile Disco are continuing to tour in support of the album, and will come to NYC this month to DJ Webster Hall on May 25 with DJ sets by Michael Mayer, Lindstrom, FIXED DJs JDH & Dave P< and Alex English & Rekles. Tickets for this show are on sale now. The flier for this show is below.

Camp Bisco, no longer just about jam bands, takes place at Indian Lookout Country Club in Mariaville, NY from July 7-9 this year. RJD2 at Webster Hall (more by Chris Doss)
No word on whether RJD2 will also perform material as part of his alter ego, The Insane Warrior, who released a debut LP called We Are The Doorways last month.
"A strictly instrumental affair, the album "We Are The Doorways" was loosely inspired by horror and sci-fi film scores of the wonderfully fruitful period of 1976-1984. Several things mark this record - for one, there is a departure from the concise nature of most modern pop-oriented records. Expansive, open passages - often with no rhythmic elements - recall the work of both Eno and John Carpenter. These give way to spastic outbursts of energy in places. At other times, the tension-meets-groove aesthetic of Dario Argento's pet Goblin give birth to some surprisingly funky cuts as well."Stream that LP below, and head to the bandcamp page to learn how you can submit your own "visual or audible companion to any of the tracks."
RJD2, who also plays Camp Bisco in July, was just down at SXSW (as was Phantogram) but only played a single show which was with Chiddy Bang on 3/15 at The Belmont in Austin (Chiddy Bang also played the BV/Feed The Beat party at Emo's the next day). Videos from the Windows Phone-sponsored SXSW Interactive shindig can be watched below.
In related news, RJD2 is part of a new DJ Hero 2 "indie hip hop" bonus pack that is out now and also features Jaylib, Charisma & Peanut Butter Wolf, The Perceptionists, and Atmosphere.
The Glitch Mob, who will be at Ultra Music Festival in Miami at the end of this month, is also confirmed for STS9's Re:Generation festival, as are STS9, Bassnectar, Beats Antique, The New Deal, Big Gigantic, Tycho, Emancipator, Little People and Lynx, and others TBA. The fest, which takes place in North Plains, Oregon's Horning's Hideout, goes down from June 23-26.
