Harlem underground hip hop duo Cannibal Ox made their live return this year at Knitting Factory Brooklyn after a long hiatus, and once again promised they'd finally release a followup to their 2001 debut, which has been delayed multiple times. Now, Can Ox member Vast Aire has taken it one step further and launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for their new record and Iron Galaxy Clik Records, the label that the duo plan to launch and release the new album on. The Kickstarter page reads:
Cannibal Ox is launching their own label Iron Galaxy Clik (IGC) Records and have reunited for their long awaited sophomore album. Cannibal Ox has already completed their first leg of their tour and funding will help us with videos, more US and International touring, the label, our spring 2013 single entitled "GOTHAM {OX CITY}" and most importantly the completion of the album. Instead of complaining about the quality of hip hop, make a change and support a real movement. 100% of your pledges will go to the funding of the sophomore album of Cannibal Ox, new videos, touring support, marketing and promotion, street teams (physical and digital), and production budget for other featured artists on the album. This label and album is 10 years in the making and needs the fans support to bring it to life.In November, the duo said they were working with producers Bill Cosmiq and Melodious Monk on the album, rather than El-P, who produced their debut and said in 2011 that he'd never produce another Can Ox album. But that was then, and now we're living in a post-apocalyptic time where even new My Bloody Valentine albums get released, so fingers crossed that El-P and Cannibal Ox can work things out.

Earlier this week, we mentioned that legendary underground hip hop duo Cannibal Ox are back after a long period of silence and will play a Brooklyn show on December 9 at Knitting Factory. Tickets for that show are still available.
Pigeons & Planes is now reporting that the duo are planning a follow-up to their lone studio album, 2001's The Cold Vein, for a 2013 release. It's not the first time the duo have announced the release of a second album, after having planned one in 2006, that allegedly included production from Pete Rock and RZA. El-P, who produced The Cold Vein said in a facebook post in 2011, "there wont ever be a can ox album produced by me again and thats a fact." Assuming this album actually comes out, here's to hoping El-P goes back on his word.
According to Can Ox member Vast Aire, "We never broke up, but the timing is now right for a new Cannibal Ox LP." He also tweeted that more shows, including some on the west coast, are being scheduled.

Cannibal Ox

It's been a while since we've heard from Cannibal Ox, the Harlem underground hip hop duo whose only studio album to date is 2001's incredible The Cold Vein (produced entirely by El-P and released on his Def Jux label). One half of the group, Vast Aire, has been releasing solo material and continuing to play live in NYC, but the duo will again join forces for a show at Knitting Factory Brooklyn on December 9. Support at that show comes from C-Rayz Walz, Prop Anon, Double AB, Creature, Ireelz, J.Stylez, and Original Text. Tickets for the show are on sale now.
No word on whether or not the duo plans to record new material, but with the revived interest in Def Jux-style hip hop that's been going on this year with lots of deserved attention being paid to new albums by Aesop Rock, Killer Mike and El-P, it'd be a great time for a solid comeback.

Vast Aire

Vast Aire aka one half of NYC abstract hip hop duo Cannibal Ox, who are responsible for 2001's incredible El-P produced The Cold Vein, recently announced that he'll play a hometown show in NYC on July 12 at The Studio at Webster Hall with OutofaWhole and Kev Bars. Tickets for the show are on sale now. It's his only announced date at the moment but his facebook page makes it sound like more may be on the way.
Vast's most recent album was the OX 2010: A Street Odyssey LP, which came out last year, featuring contributions from Raekwon, Guilty Simpson, and more. Check out the video for "The Cannon of Samus" from that release below.
Speaking of El-P, he's been having an excellent year thanks to his production on Killer Mike's great new album, R.A.P. Music and his own also great Cancer 4 Cure LP. Unfortunately, he was forced to cancel some European festival appearances this week due to the unexpected passing of someone close to him, but as promised, the rest of his tour with Killer Mike, Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire, and Despot will proceed as planned. That tour includes the previously discussed NYC show on July 13 at Irving Plaza. Tickets for that show are still available.
