DOWNLOAD: Capsule - "Neuralize So Numb" (MP3)

After releasing the triumphant and impressive Blue on Robotic Empire (which was recently repressed), Capsule is back with No Ghost due on April 12th via Rorschach Records. Unmastered versions of the LP show promise; a band that has always impressed with over-the-top technicality piles hooks into their math-y post-hardcore to great effect. Dig on exhibit A from No Ghost, "Neuralize So Numb" which makes its first appearance here, downloadable above/streamable below.
Capsule is on the road in March, and will play Acheron on March 25th with two more bands TBA. Full dates are below. In addition, Eric Hernandez of Capsule and formerly of Kylesa, has another forthcoming show with his other project Shitstorm. You can catch Shitstorm in NYC when they team up with Cripple Bastards, The Kill, Noisear, and many others at Public Assembly on 5/25.

Arab on Radar

Indianapolis was ablaze this weekend (July 9th & 10th), as Arab on Radar and Municipal Waste headlined Dudefest in Indianapolis, Indiana as part of a two day event in that city. The event also featured many other luminaries from the hardcore/underground metal scenes which also featured Voetsek (coming to NYC), Capsule, Get Rad (profiled here), Coffinworm (coming to NYC), Failures & Vaccine (who played NYC last night, pics coming soon), Landmine Marathon (who play NYC TWICE this week, with Salome), Trap Them (their new EP is out now), Phoenix Bodies, Pollution (who have a new 12"), and many others. Our photographer sent in his notes...
Dudefest, Day 1: The evening started off fairly sparse with a few crowding to the front to watch the bands and the occasional minipit. The hall was packed densely with merch booths and the bathroom supplying the Emerson Theater classic carnival game, piss on the cockroach in the urinal until he drowns. The crowd seemed to pick up by the time Landmine Marathon took stage, but it was the full force rage of Municipal Waste that really brought things into a fury.Twitter reports confirm the reign of terror brought forth by Arab on Radar at Dudefest, their second show in a week as the band also played AS220 in their native Rhode Island on July 3rd. The band is currently working on a new record with no release date set yet.Day 2: Irony-a-plenty at the ES Jungle. For those that don't know its a church and you can only chuckle when bands like Black Arrows of Filth and Impurity are on the bill and you're staring down a line of people wearing t-shirts depicting bloodied carcasses atop a pentagram. This day was a bit more rough and by the end of the night it turned into a photography war zone, just replace bombs with people, feet, and elbows.
Videos from both Arab on Radar shows and more pictures from Dudefest (Capsule, Failures, Municipal Waste, Landmine Marathon, Phoenix Bodies, and more... WARNING: don't look on an empty stomach), below...

Remember that Brainworms tour we were just talking about? Well, according to Punknews, Brainworms have called it quits. Capsule (featuring Kylesa drummer Eric Hernandez) will sally forth without them, playing all three previously discussed shows at Cake Shop (3/17), ABC No Rio (3/20), and the newly announced Glass Door (3/20). Support for Cake Shop will come from Nomos, Death First, and the great Pollution, while ABC No Rio gets Pregnant and Nightbirds +1 TBA. My favorite of the three goes to The Glass Door show, which will feature the incredible Defeatist, Ramps and MVRs (most valuable rookies) Psychic Limb. Git er dun.
Ramps will play a couple weeks before that, as part of the rescheduled Sourvein date at The Charleston on 3/7 with with Akris. The original show was on February 6th, but...

NOT Tim Harrington: Brainworms

The sound that Virginia's Brainworms have become notorious for is definitely different... Brainworms have always embraced the style of hardcore that was made popular by groups like Split Lip and Grade. All of the group's discography bleeds of a melodic hardcore influence, but the fact is they hardly ever sound that clean or restrained. Whether it is punk, hardcore, or even indie rock, Brainworms are able to spew a dissonant yet catchy mix of numerous genres. -[Sputnik]Richmond punks Brainworms are notoriously unrestrained live, and you can catch the crew with Capsule as the pair hit the road for a gang of East Coast dates in middle March. The tour includes THREE NYC dates: Cake Shop on 3/17, ABC no Rio on 3/20, and a third TBD show also on 3/20. Full tour dates are below.
Brainworms last released II: Swear To Me last year. Capsule released the highly acrobatic Blue on Robotic Empire a little more than two years ago.
Tour dates and some videos are below...

Kylesa @ Full Metal Texas, SXSW (more pics here)

Kylesa have scheduled ANOTHER pair of shows in the NYC area: May 27th at Maxwell's (tickets here) and Cake Shop on May 30th (yeah you read that right). That makes FIVE total NYC area shows that the Savannah crew has lined up in the month of May if you count their sold-out shows with Mastodon & Intronaut at MHOW and Irving Plaza and the one with Coheed & Cambria at Starland Ballroom. You officially have no excuse to miss 'em.
Kylesa is touring in support of their kick-ass new record Static Tensions, which includes "Said & Done" (above). Pitchfork dug it too.
Meanwhile, Kylesa drummer (one of them) Eric Hernandez's other project, Capsule, (who we profiled last year) have released a digital-only release entitled Tape + Demo + Tour. Check out the song "Just Three Lines" from that release (originally found on a short run, tour-only CD-R) at their myspace and pick it up at iTunes.
In addition, dig on the below videos that Capsule put together chronicling their show at The Fest 7 in Gainsville, FL.
All dates below...

Laura Kylesa
Savannah, Georgia's Kylesa has announced a tour of the East Coast that will see the band teaming up with Pinback on a few, including both previously announced NYC dates. Tickets are still available for both (Bowery on 9/28 here, MHOW on 9/27 here). As reported, the band is currently working on their follow-up to Time Will Fuse It's Worth which will (again) be produced by guitarist Philip Cope. Tour dates are down below.
Last time Kylesa was here, they killed the Knitting Factory with The Ocean, Lair Of The Minotaur & Withered. Lair Of The Minotaur are headed back to NYC with M.O.D. - tickets are still available. Withered are headed back to NYC with Watain.
Kylesa shares a drummer with Capsule. Capsule's buddies Torche recently played Webster Hall with Boris.
In related awesome heavy music with female frontwomen news, Made Out Of Babies are hitting Europe, but not before playing a few US dates including a show in Brooklyn at Southpaw with Pigs & Pistola and another in Ohio with the mighty Keelhaul. Brooklyn tickets are on sale.
Dates and flyers below...

DOWNLOAD: Capsule - "Cobalt Connection" (ZSHARE MP3 LINK)
DOWNLOAD: Capsule - "Determinal" (ZSHARE MP3 LINK)

These guys are on some other shit. Featuring members of some seriously mighty bands (ex-Torche & Tyranny of Shaw, currently Kylesa) Capsule play a frenzied blend of metal-meets-post-hardcore that is somehow both calculated and chaotic. Pull all of the prog tendencies out of Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and put him back in front of a post-hardcore rhythm section with ADD, distill the results, and you'd have something that sounds like them. Think Dysrhythmia or Behold... The Arctopus with gang vocals and a furious punk slant..... lots of technicality, odd time signatures, and jaw-dropping left turns.
Their FIRST LP Blue is out now. For more praise, see what Decibel has to say. Pick it up at Robotic Empire.
If you missed 'em last night (April 15) at the Brooklyn Cat House, catch 'em tonight (April 16 at the Charleston (on Bedford) with BirthdayBoyz. They're on tour with Furnace. All dates below...
But first check out the ridiculous interview that Colin from Capsile did with Rick Smith of Torche on his blog.
