Holly Herndon

On November 4, Le Poisson Rouge is teaming up with Wordless Music to present a pretty cool bill that should appeal to fans of indie/classical crossover. The show will be headlined by vocal octet Roomful of Teeth (who have worked with tUnE-yArDs), who will be performing the world premiere of Caroline Shaw's "Partita," in addition to works by Caleb Burhans, Brad Wells, and William Brittelle. Opening the show will be experimental musician Holly Herndon, whose newest album, Movement, was released last year via RNG Intl. Tickets for the LPR show are on sale now.

Holly is also taking part in Ecstatic Summer 2013, which happens at Brookfield Place Plaza on Saturday (6/29) and Sunday (6/30) as part of the River to River Festival. There will be premiere compositions from Holly, Greg Saunier (Deerhoof), Reggie Pace (Bon Iver), Dave Douglas, Susie Ibarra, Seth Olinsky (Akron/Family), People Get Ready, and Son Lux. The pieces will be performed by members of The National, yMusic, Plastic Ono Band, and more. Like all RIver to River events, this one is free and open to the public. 5 PM start. Check out the full list of compositions being premiered, below.

In related news, Wordless Music is also presenting the previously discussed Oneohtrix Point Never show happening in NYC on September 17 at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Cathedral (113 Remsen St). OPN is releasing his new album, R Plus Seven, on September 30 via Warp, and he recently revealed an excerpt of a new song, "Still Life." You can listen to that below.

Shara Worden & The Orchestra for the Next Century, Ecstatic Music Fest 2013
Shara Worden

As you may know, the Ecstatic Music Festival is underway in NYC with concerts happening now through March 21 at Merkin Concert Hall in the Kaufman Music Center. Last night (2/6) featured a performance by Clogs and Sarah Kirkland Snider & Orchestra for the Next Century. The latter was presenting the world premiere of Unremembered, a 13-song cycle set to poetry and artwork by New-York-based poet/writer Nathaniel Bellows. DM Stith, My Brightest Diamond's Shara Worden (who performed the opening night) and Clogs' Padma Newsome. sang as part of it. Pictures from the evening, as well as setlist and program notes,  are in this post.

The next EMF performance happens February 20 featuring a collaboration between Deerhoof and Chicago ensemble Dal Niente, including new work by Brazilian-born composer Marcos Balter. Deerhoof and Dal Niente previously collaborated last summer as part of Chicago's Wordless Music series. Tickets to the event are still available.

<p>Back in June, vocal octet <a href=Roomful of Teeth played an Ecstatic Summer show with Merrill Garbus (aka the brains behind tUnE-yArDs) to perform some compositions that Merrill had written for the group along with some tUnE-yArDs songs as well. Some of those compositions will appear on the new self-titled Roomful of Teeth album, which is due out October 30 via New Amsterdam Records. One of those songs, "Quizassa," can be downloaded above, and it's instantly noticeable that Merrill had something to do with it. The album also features songs composed by William Brittelle, Caleb Burnhans, Rinde Eckert, Judd Greenstein, Caroline Shaw, and Sarah Kirkland Snider. The album tracklist and cover art are below.

Roomful of Teeth will also play a free show in NYC on Thursday (10/4) at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center. The show starts at 10:30. They'll be performing material from their album and also the NY premieres of new works by Missy Mazzoli.

Album info is below.
