Young Magic at Mercury Lounge in 2011 (more by Jessica Amaya)

Young Magic picked up quite a bit of buzz in 2011 with a few singles and multiple tours with Youth Lagoon. They also played one of our CMJ Parties.
Now they're set to release their debut LP, Melt on February 14 via Carpark. The album will feature material from their singles, including "Night In The Ocean," "Slip Time", "Sparkly", and "You With Air." You can stream all four of those tracks below, along with the album artwork and tracklist, and the video for "Sparkly."
A while back Young Magic announced a record release show scheduled to take place in their current hometown of NYC on February 18 at Mercury Lounge. That show was cancelled after tickets went on sale but was re-announced this week and tickets are on sale now. The show is being opened by Heaven, who also open the Swervedriver show at Bowery Ballroom (3/31).
Young Magic were also initially billed as the openers for YACHT's upcoming tour but have since dropped off (2/26 Brooklyn show included).

Deakin @ Glasslands

"Just got back from it. Didn't stick around for the cowboys & indians dance party, though I probably should have. I was faced on mushrooms the whole night and felt like the place was being overrun by 16 year olds. Twice some dumb scantily-clad broads approached me to ask if I'd buy them drinks cos they were only "20". This was very different from the demographic I imagined Prince Rama and Deakin would be playing for.The show described above too place in Massachusetts on Tuesday. The show pictured in this post took place place at Glasslands on Monday (9/13), one night earlier. It was Deakin of Animal Collective's first NYC solo show with an assist from current tour/label mate Prince Rama, and Silk Flowers and Amen Dunes.Really bummed out about the arrest of Michael from Prince Rama, and the subsequent abridged setlist. But still they sounded really amazing, and Deakin's set was very cool. It's a shame most people there didn't seem to give much of a shit about the live music.
Can't believe I didn't stick around longer. What did I miss? But don't tell me a bunch of half naked 18 year old girls with face paint prancing around, beseeching older men to buy them drinks. Because I was there for that.
P.S. I was the awkward weirdo in the blue hoodie.

The trek continues for Prince Rama/Deakin, who play Montreal tonight and scoot across the west coast until the end of September. After that, Prince Rama will then link up with Light Pollution for another tour that kicks off in Chicago in early October before they both play NYC on 10/21 as part of the Carpark/Paw Tracks CMJ Showcase at Cake Shop. More details on that showcase TBA.
It's unclear why the guy from Prince Rama got arrested, but the above account makes at least three times I heard about it.
Prince Rama's new LP, Shadow Temple, is out now via Paw Tracks, dig on one track from the LP, "Lightening Fossil", downloadable above. Light Pollution's new LP, Apparitions, is out now also, and features "Witchcraft" available for download above.

"The art made by Baltimore artist Dan Deacon is about community and how to organize and inspire it. From founding a now well-known art collective (Wham City), to organizing and running an annually sold-out DIY music festival (Whartscape), to conceiving, planning and curating a massive 60 person/30 band tour (Baltimore Round Robin Tour), it's clear to see that community and bringing people together is the major theme of his work. Bromst is the embodiment of that way of thinking.Dan Deacon plays a $3.00 show in Brooklyn on January 30th and the "Brooklyn vs. Baltimore Marathon" now also has Woods and Blank Dogs on the bill (previously their spots were marked "special guest"). The location isFor the last three years Dan Deacon has been working on Bromst. Fusing together the growing intensity of his live performances with his background in electro-acoustic composition, the outcome is a collection of pieces that are intense and epic and at the same time down to earth and welcoming. Bromst embodies the same energy and excitement as Spiderman of the Rings, however the craftsmanship and composition on Bromst have a wider scope and richer palette.
Unlike the completely electronic Spiderman of the Rings, the instrumentation on Bromst is a mixture of acoustic instruments, mechanical instruments, samples and electronics. The player piano, marimba, glockenspiel, vibraphone, live drums, winds and brass give Bromst a much richer tone than his previous work. The intricate and complex parts, skillfully executed by the performers, are woven together into a rich, dense, noisy dance pop that has become Dan Deacon's signature sound." [PR]
Dan Deacon will also play Bowery Ballroom in Manhattan on May 16th with Double Dagger and Teeth Mountain. The date is presumably part of a bigger tour that is still TBA. Tickets for the NYC show go on sale Friday at noon.
Bromst will be released on March 24, 2009 by Carpak Records. Listen to the track "Get Older" at Imeem. Full tracklist below.
Even sooner (Jan 27 via Carpark), you can get your hands on a Dan Deacon / Adventure split 7". The cover of that one is a composite image of Dan Deacon and Benny Adventure. It's got 4 tracks. They are listed below.
Dan also appears on a new Free Yr Radio benefit compilation that is exclusive to Insound. Other bands on the album include !!!, Chairlift, Yeasayer, White Williams, No Age, Mudhoney, King Khan, The Secret Machines, The Walkmen, Tokyo Police Club and Jamie Lidell. Exact songs are also listed below.
Last but not least, Dan is/was looking for interns who can transcribe sheet music...
I'm preparing the scores for 15 of my compositions that are being printed in early March. I'm already insanely busy so I'm seeking 2 or 3 interns to help me with the process. It pays $15 an hour and should be around 20 hours total. I need people to help clean up the MIDI files and transcribe parts from the program Reason and bring them into the program Sibelius.UPDATE: All known tour dates HERE (including a second one at Danbro).
