He did it again. Much like Thursday night, Prince showed up last night (8/25) at City Winery for the last of New Power Generation's residency at City Winery. Technically it was this morning as the show -- billed as a VMAs afterparty -- didn't start till midnight. And it didn't finish till almost 6 AM. Sets from Shelby J. and Liv Warfield started off the night, followed by "special guest sets" starting at 1 AM from Cee Lo Green (who played Brooklyn Bowl earlier that night), Family Stone/Grand Central Station's Larry Graham (who plays BB King's Wednesday, tickets are on sale), and Alice Smith (who played other nights of the residency too). Prince took the stage around 3 AM and played almost literally till the break of dawn. Doug E. Fresh, who was there on Thursday, guested again too.
Did you go? What did you think? And how are you awake?
The approximate setlist is below...
Atlanta hip hop legends Goodie Mob (Cee-Lo Green, Khujo, T-Mo, and Big Gipp), whose last trip to Brooklyn was part of a big show at Barclays Center, will be returning to the borough on their summer tour for a much smaller show happening on August 25 at Brooklyn Bowl. Support at that show comes from Drop City Yacht Club. Tickets to BBowl go on sale Monday (7/29) at noon. All tour dates are listed, along with the flyer for that show, below.
When we last spoke, Goodie Mob were saying their new album, Age Against the Machine, would be out on June 18. That didn't happen, but now they're saying it will be out August 27.
All dates are listed, along with a classic Goodie Mob video, below...

84 year old Tony Bennett w/ a 27 year old Amy Winehouse
The great Tony Bennett has a new album of Duets, titled Duets II, coming out on September 20th. The 17-track CD features boring names like Michael Buble, John Mayer and Sheryl Crow, and some interesing names like Willie Nelson and Lady Gaga, but most notably includes a duet with Amy Winehouse who unfortunately never had the chance to realize her full potential due to a sad past few years and her untimely death today (7/23/2011).
In a video interview (that you can watch HERE), Tony says "Amy Winehouse was my favorite to perform with on the whole album." He compares her to Dina Washington and says she had the butterflies and nervousness that all the greats like Frank Sinatra and Duke Ellington had. He talks about how they clicked and says he thought she really loved to perform (though you might not know it from recent live videos) (too much butterfly medicine). RIP Amy.
Winehouse hasn't released an album since 2006 hit "Back to Black". The album won five of six Grammys it was nominted for including Record of the Year (and Best New Artist). She also won at the Brits that year. She was nominated for the UK's Mercury Prize twice. In 2004 "Frank" lost to Franz Ferdinand. In 2006 she lost to the Klaxons (check out who was nominated this year). Whether or not Amy has any other unreleased material remains to be seen, though there were rumors that she also recently recorded a track with Cee Lo Green.

The above pictures is a screen shot from the Virgin Freefest lineup announcement video that they posted to YouTube. The girl behind the words exclaims, "James Murphy solo!" as she reads her piece of the September 10th free MD festival lineup. The full lineup, video, poster and press release is below...

Afro-Punk 2011 will take place in Fort Greene's Commodore Barry Park on August 27 and 28. This year's crazy lineup consists of Cee Lo Green, Janelle Monae (who played the fest in 09), Fishbone, Santigold, Jay Electronica, Toro y Moi, Reggie Watts and more. The festival will also a hold a Skate and BMX competition, and other related events. Admission is free to the general public.
Full lineup below...
Sia & friend
"The Voice" is about to sound even sweeter now that Reba McEntire, Monica and other music favorites are joining the NBC singing competition.Cee-Lo is already huge (no pun intended), and it looks like Christina Aguilera collaborator Sia is on her way towards major stardom as well.
In the coming weeks, coaches Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine will be teamed up with mentors from the music industry who have inspired them, according to the network.
McEntire will join Shelton, Monica will join Cee Lo Green, singer Sia will join Aguilera, and Maroon 5 music director Adam Blackstone will join Levine.
The quartet will serve as advisers to their colleagues as well as the talent, offering words of wisdom and helping to choose songs that best suit each singer's vocal style. -[CNN]
And in addition to Sia's upcoming spot on TV, she'll appear live across North America on tour in July and August with special guest Oh Land opening the shows. The tour includes two NYC nights at Webster Hall, July 26 & July 27. Tickets for the 7/26 show go on AmEx presale on Wednesday, and general sale at noon on Friday (5/6).
Lollapalooza last year (more by Josh Darr)
Lollapalooza celebrates its 20th anniversary this year with some huge names on its just-announced lineup. See it in full below.
The festival has obviously changed over the years. What started out as a farewell tour for Jane's Addiction with a 'touring festival' lineup that included the Rollins Band, Nine Inch Nails, Butthole Surfers, and Souxsie & The Banshees, has turned into a one-weekend Chicago festival that Lady Gaga co-headlined last year. As leaked a while ago, Foo Fighters, Muse and Eminem all play this year, as will Coldplay, Cee Lo Green, and My Morning Jacket along with the reunited Cars and the continuing-to-be-reunited Big Audio Dynamite and Death From Above 1979, and a bunch of other bands which may or may not be worth the ticket price depending on how you feel about the headliners and generally seeing bands in big, hot, outdoor crowded parks (Lollapalooza happens in Chicago's Grant Park from August 5th - 7th).
Full 2011 Lineup and a couple of videos (one from 1991, one from 2010), below...

Here are a few things that happened on Coachella Day 1:
- it was hot.
- lots of celebrities, like Coachella regular Danny Devito, were walking around
- The Black Keys, Kings of Leon and the Chemical Brothers were the big headlining acts of the day (all on the main Coachella Stage)
- people wore funny outfits, and sometimes NSFW outfits.
- people sinned.
- Lauryn Hill started late, but not too late (aka she still got to play).
- Cee Lo showed up very late, apologized, but acted mad he had to play a short set. He used that anger to give his set-closing hit "Fuck You" context.
- Odd Future predictably drew a huge crowd, and were joined by Pharell.
- Odd Future's set resulted in a possible broken nose (again)
- There were 20 arrests
- Paul McCartney was there, and along with Usher, stood on stage during Afrojack's set.
- YACHT played
- Many other people played, and lots of other stuff happened too, as you can see in the pictures below...
What were your highlights of Coachella Day One? Are you there or watching the stream?
Photographer David Andrako managed to catch 18 acts and other random stuff in between on Friday. His pictures from the whole day continue below...
