Acid Tiger (more by Samantha Marble)
Acid Tiger

With Thursday, The Hope Conspiracy, and Bloodhorse taking some downtime for now, and Converge in slumber until they hit Europe in early July, Acid Tiger will hit the road for four east coast dates. They hit The Acheron in Brooklyn on June 17th with Tournament (who recently played The Charleston with Torche), Gators!, and Chambers. The band's new and self-titled LP is out now on Deathwish, and the band recently played Cake Shop with Narrows on April 24th.

Bloodhorse is currently working on their new LP, the follow-up to Horizoner which hit last year via Translation Loss.

In related news, All Pigs Must Die, who have nothing to do with the Death In June album of the same name, are comprised of members of Bloodhorse, The Hope Conspiracy, and Converge (Kevin Baker, Ben Koller, Adam Wentworth, and Matt Woods). The band recently finished recording material with Kurt Ballou at GodCity, though no release date has been set through their label (Deathwish).

Chambers have their debut album, Old Love, due on June 22nd. Stream songs from their debut EP.

Show flyer, Acid Tiger dates, and some video are below...

The Abominable Iron Sloth

Saturday (5/15) was my first time at the relatively new Party Expo, to see Divider, Beauty Apes, Chambers, Tiger Flowers and The Abominable Iron Sloth. Mixed feelings on the space - I like floor shows and the sound was better than expected, but the crowd was anemic at best. Not that I particularly miss windmills and spin-kicks, but I'll take them over glazed eyes and sullen stares any day.

Divider opened with a jaw-clenching set of hardcore/metal crossover, followed by Beauty Apes' filthy sludgecore, though I wish the bands' Neurosis and Kylesa shirts showed through a bit more in their music.

Chambers - from NJ - were on-fucking-fire! Doomriders are a decent reference point, but Chambers tread much further into drunken, psychobilly-style guitar rock, colored by Dan Pelic's raspy shout-alongs. Though steeped in metal and punk, this is pure beer-swilling, fist-fucking, bar-fight rock'n'roll at the core. Their "Old Love" debut is out June 22nd.

Not sure why, but I dug Tiger Flowers much more here than at their Public Assembly show a few weeks back. Maybe it was the DIY venue and the floor set-up, but the boys put on a fierce, fluid and raw performance, despite the iffy sound.

After briefly blowing out the power, The Abominable Iron Sloth finally took the floor for a short but massive set. Guitars tuned down to the ground, The Sloth feels like one massive rhythm section, slamming a giant sledgehammer into your chest with every sludgy chord. Apparently they only had 20 minutes of material ready due to a new touring drummer (or is he full-time?) - a damn shame. Check out their recent The Id Shall Overcome album and the song "Hats Made Of Veal And That New Car Smell" off their first record - the riff will bury straight into your brain.

Blacklisted

The progressive hardcore of Blacklisted and the noisy post-hardcore of Gods & Queens crash landed in NYC on Saturday, March 6th, at Cake Shop as part of a BV/1000 Knives production. Support came from dissonant hardcore greats Tiger Flowers and stoner punks Chambers. It was Blacklisted's second appearance in close to two months (last time was with The Hope Conspiracy). The show was one of the last of a string of dates for Blacklisted and Gods & Queens, culminating in a final homecoming show the next night in Philadelphia.

Blacklisted are one of many bands scheduled to play United Blood in Richmond, Virginia on March 26t. Also on the bill: Madball, Death Threat, Mind Eraser, Paint It Black, Alpha and Omega, and many others.

DOWNLOAD: Tiger Flowers - "The Weight" (MP3)

Tiger Flowers at Union Pool (more by Samantha Marble)
Tiger Flowers

Even though The Hope Conspiracy with Blacklisted at Cake Shop on Friday (1/15) is close to sold out (only a few tix left at the door), we have on pair available for giveaway! Details are below. If you don't win and aren't one of the lucky few to scoop those door tickets, rest easy in the fact that Blacklisted will return to NYC with Gods & Queens, Tiger Flowers, and Chambers as part of a BrooklynVegan/1000 Knives production at Cake Shop on March 6th!

Though Blacklisted's recent and surprise LP No One Deserves To Be Here More Than Me is still in diapers, the PA band isn't the only one who is working a new release. Tiger Flowers recently completed recording The Last Horse, their new EP due later this year. Dig on the angular, brutal noisecore of "The Weight" from that upcoming release available for download above. "The Weight" is blistering to be sure, but it says nothing of their live show which you can catch TWICE before the Blacklisted show: for FREE at Studio at Webster on 1/18 with Sleeping At The End Of The World and KID:NAP:KIN, and then again on 2/18 with My America at The Charleston as part of a tour with The March of Echoes.

Tour dates, a few videos, details on how to win tickets, and the show flyer are below...
