Kitty Pryde at 285 Kent in 2013 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
Kitty Pryde

"After all these years of (usually) fooling bouncers, Kitty (Pryde) is finally turning 21 for real," reads the Facebook event for the rapper's 21st birthday party. It's one of her Candy From Strangers parties (the parties Kitty does with Chippy Nonstop and Lina Loves It), and though those parties used to happen at 285 Kent, due to the venue's questionable future, which now happen at Leftfield (87 Ludlow St), where they also threw their halloween party.

The Facebook event also asks you to "please be as 21 as Kitty will, and expect to turn up the way we normally do at Candy From Strangers." Performances and DJs TBA.

Flyer and a video below...

Pictureplane at BV-SXSW 2013 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
Pictureplane

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows. Here are some highlights...

Pictureplane, Heartsrevolution, Kitty Pryde, Chippy Nonstop, Special Guest @ 285 Kent
Neither Pictureplane nor Kitty Pryde ever fail to get the party started, so this should be a pretty fun Monday night at 285 Kent. Any guesses on who the special guest is?

Phony PPL, The Skins @ Brooklyn Bowl
Phony PPL hearken back to the hip hop and neo-soul of the '90s, and they do it well. Catch them playing a hometown show at Brooklyn Bowl tonight.

The Numerators, Wimps, Butter The Children @ Cake Shop
In between two local bands that play a whole lot are Seattle, WA's Wimps who play charming, punky indie pop. You can stream this year's Slept in Late in full below.

Hiatus Kaiyote, Rich Medina @ Knitting Factory
Last night Australia's Hiatus Kaiyote opened for Shuggie Otis in Central Park. Tonight, they bring their laid-back R&B/soul to Knitting Factory for a headlining show.

Little Comets, Like Crazy @ Mercury Lounge
Hailing from Newcastle Upon Tyne in Northern England, Little Comets play a tuneful, energetic brand of Britpop that doesn't get much attention these days -- but they do what they do very well. Their brand new album, Life is Elsewhere, can be streamed via Spotify.

Toni Braxton @ Wingate Field (FREE)
The free Martin Luther King Jr. Concert Series at Wingate Field continues today with Toni Braxton.

Wyatt Cenac continues his weekly comedy show, Night Train, at Littlefield tonight. For more laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.

Kitty Pryde at BV-CMJ 2012 (more by Chris La Putt)
Kitty Pryde

Kitty Pryde plans to release her followup to the haha im sorry EP this month with her new EP, D.A.I.S.Y. rage and she just revealed a teaser video for the EP which features the new song, "Dead Island." The video was directed/produced by Steamclam and you can watch it below. She's also been tweeting that her new mixtape will drop soon on Cocaine Blunts and she'll appear on the new Le1f mixtape, Fly Zone, which is due out on January 13.

Kitty Pryde has some upcoming appearances in NYC scheduled, including Lil B's panel discussion at 285 Kent on January 17, where she'll appear along with Travis Egedy aka Pictureplane, Alexandra Gamlin (Afro-Punk), and Russ Marshalek and Sophie Wiener (of Silent Drape Runners). Plus there will be Lil B-themed DJ sets by Pictureplane and Prince Rama.

A couple weeks after that, she'll return to 285 Kent for a live show on February 7 with Nina Sky (who you probably know best from their 2004 single, "Move Ya Body" and who released the free mixtape, Nicole & Natalie last year) and Chippy Nonstop. Tickets for that show are on sale now. She doesn't appear to have any other dates scheduled at the moment.
