Josh Rouse played two nights at (Le) Poisson Rouge Thursday, February 4th and Friday the 5th with Christina Courtin. The pictures here are from that second show. He, like Those Darlins who were at Bowery Ballroom on Friday, was forced to cancel his Philadelphia appearance the next night because of the 'snowpocalyse' that hit places south of NYC (those three stops were part of his super-short stateside trip). Josh will be making up the Philly show when he comes back in the spring (dates TBA) in support of his new album, El Turista, out March 9th on Yep Roc. Rouse discussed the album with WNYC before his Friday show. That's streaming on their site.
More pictures from LPR are below...

"I know it's kind of funny, this Midwestern guy doing Brazilian songs in Spanish," says Josh Rouse about his new studio album, El Turista. "I don't know if it fits, but I like the way it feels." [Yep Roc bio]Josh Rouse will be putting out his new record, El Turista, on March 9th through Yep Roc. He makes a US trip this February. That includes a pair of shows at NYC's (Le) Poisson Rouge on February 4th and 5th. Christina Courtin (as per her Myspace "I'm not a fucking jazz singer") opens. Tickets to the February 4th and February 5th shows are on sale.
The shows promise to be immersive, with Josh accompanied by native Spanish musicians Raul Fernandez (guitar, piano, vocals), Ricardo Bellveser Machancoses (bass guitar), Jose Maria Fuertes Tasquer (guitar), and New York based Robert DiPietro (drums and percussion). Before then, Christina Courtin plays Rubin Museum of Art on Friday, January 29th (tonight) as part of their Naked Soul series. Tickets are on sale.
Josh Rouse is not to be confused with Josh Ritter who was recently seen opening for The Swell Season and playing with Dawn Landes at Mercury Lounge, and who will be back soon to play Town Hall (It will be even more confusing when Josh Rouse's upcoming show at the same venue gets announced).
Josh Rouse was filmed by La Blogotheque last July in Barcelona, where he now lives. Those Blogoteque videos, a download-for-your-email widget (for a song off his new record) and all tour dates are below...
Marianne Faithfull @ City Winery (more by Lori Baily)

Marianne Faithfull is performing at NYC's Town Hall on Thursday, September 24th. Tickets ($86 / $51 / $31) go on AmEx presale starting Wednesday, April 15th at 11 AM. General sale begins Friday, April 17th at noon.
We also have a pair of front row tickets to giveaway. Details on how to with them below.
For the show, Faithfull will be accompanied by a band consisting of Greg Cohen, Marc Ribot, Rob Burger, Joey Baron, Ryan Scott, Christina Courtin, Christopher Hoffman, Lenny Pickett and Marty Elrich. Much, if not all, of that cast contribute to her new album and/or were spotted playing with Faithfull at her City Winery gigs, and on Letterman, in late March.
Marc Ribot, who definitely played at the City Winery shows and on Letterman, has his own week of shows planned for early May, to celebrate his 55th birthday.
Faithfull's newest disc Easy Come, Easy Go, which consists of 12 covers from Neko Case to Billie Holiday, is out now on Decca Records.
Faithfull was recently interviewed by the newly married Ryan Adams.
Marianne Faithfull: And I'll be doing a couple of gigs with the original band on the record. I'm sure you know all those guys as well.Awkward? All dates, pro-shot video from one of the City Winery shows, and contest details below...Ryan Adams: Tell me about why you chose to cover the Decemberists' "The Crane Wife 3."
MF: Hal [Willner] found that song, and what I love about "The Crane Wife" is that it's a folk tale. It's about a man who falls in love with and marries a swan. The only real concept for this record was to work with great songs, and these were the ones that happened to be chosen from the modern idiom. I could have easily taken one of yours, and maybe I will one day. [Black Book Mag]

Andrew Bird played Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn last night (1/26). The sold out venue was full, but not packed. The audience was super respectful, even for opener Christina Courtin who I didn't love (I was hoping for Dosh who is opening at Carnegie Hall).
Bird (with the help of a band that included Dosh) played almost all songs off his new album Noble Beast (currently still streaming at NPR), and maybe three or four older ones. The album hadn't even been out a week, and it seemed people had trouble getting into the show until about halfway through when Bird played "Fake Pallindromes" followed by "Nonanimal" (my favorite track off the new record). At one point he asked if he was playing too many new ones, and for the rest of the concert people kept shouting requests. I don't think he played anything off "Armchair Apocrypha" and he didn't even play "Why?".
The show was early. He went on at 9:15 and played until around 10:45 which included one encore. The crowd was cheering really, really loud for a second encore, but he didn't come back. I heard he's been a bit sick the past few days, so that may have been the reason.
Andrew recently played a show in DC on Inauguration-eve and has many more shows coming up including one Wednesday night at Carnegie Hall.

The Trifonic track (the other electro MP3 up there) has its moments. Other moments I don't know about. Anyway, I put it there because it's kind of interesting and features vocals by NYC artist Christina Courtin, who, is opening for Suzanne Vega tonight.
