The body at Saint Vitus (more by BBG)

NYC's favorite non-local local band The Body, will team with Braveyoung for another string of dates that will include NYC at Saint Vitus on February 9th. Ticketing info is forthcoming. The band will play material from last year's collaborative LP Nothing Passes (stream it).

Julie Christmas will play a rare show at Saint Vitus on February 4th, backed by John Lamacchia (Candiria) , Fran Mark (From Autumn to Ashes), Andrew Schneider (Pigs), Tom Tierney (Tidal Arms) and Melvin Leiderman (Thalia Zedek). The show will center around her solo debut The Bad Wife, and will also feature an appearance from Stephen Brodsky (Cave In) and tickets are on sale. In related news, word on the street says that Made Out of Babies is no more.

Saint Vitus will also host Hate Eternal with Fallujah and more TBA on March 9th as part of a string of dates. Tickets are on sale and full tour schedule is below.

Double Negative will return to NYC to play Saint Vitus on February 2nd. Tickets are on sale, and support comes from Murder, Tournament, and Acid Problem.

As revealed on Metalsucks, Clinging To The Trees of a Forest Fire have announced a round of tour dates that include March 26th at Lit Lounge. Full set of dates are below.

Clinging To The Trees of A Forest Fire at SXSW (more here)

A bunch of killer shows are on the way in the coming weeks, CMJ aside. Clinging To The Trees of A Forest Fire's Songs of Ill Hope and Desperation is a pretty killer slab of blackened sludgy grind, and the band impressed with their live show at SXSW this year. The band will hit the East Coast for a string of dates including The Acheron on 10/29 with Flourishing, The Communion, and Deep in Vein. Get out to see them. Full CTTTOAFF dates are below.

Negative Plane are welcoming their new Ajna Offensive/Invictus Productions LP, Stained Glass Revelations, with a record release show at Europa on (when else?) Halloween (10/31/10) with Villains and Occultation. $11 gets you into the black mass (tickets here), and make sure and pick up a copy of the new LP that will be available in "limited quantities".

Early 80s Metal Blade obscurity Tyrant will play their first ever East Coast show Friday night (10/15) at The Delancey with October 31, Vermefug, and Mutant Supremacy. $10 gets you in.

Skeletonwitch and Misery Index will support Job for a Cowboy at Santos Party House on 12/16. Tickets are on sale. Skeletonwitch will hit the road for a string of dates with Landmine Marathon and Withered in late November prior to the NYC date, though unfortunately that tour won't hit NYC. Misery Index will play NJ Deathfest next weekend with Cannabis Corpse, Cardiac Arrest, Call The Paramedics and so much more over the two days at Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ. Speaking of Cannabis Corpse, the band will play NYC on 10/24 with Mutant Supremacy, Castevet, Fin'Amor, and Respawn the Ancients on 10/24. The show kicks off at 6PM at Bowery Electric. Castevet will also play Don Pedro's on Saturday (10/16) with Buckshot Facelift, No Remission, Water Temples, $4 gets you in. Full Castevet dates are below.

American Hardcore will be the focus of a celebration this Sunday (10/17) at Knitting Factory with Urban Waste, Downlow, Yo! $cunt, a slide show by American Hardcore author/filmmaker Steven Blush, and special guest DJ George Tabb. Tickets are still available for the all-ages show.

Crucifist will return to NYC to play Acheron on 11/6, joined by Rochester's Sarcous and Brooklyn's own Mutilation Rites. The all ages shindig kicks off at 8PM. Full Crucifist dates are below.

And last but not least, Deicide will play Gramercy on 2/21 with Pathology, Belphegor, Blackguard, and Neuraxis. Tickets are on sale in both regular and VIP varieties. DOWNLOAD: Clinging To The Trees Of A Forest Fire - "Made of Coal" (MP3)

Clinging To The Trees of A Forest Fire at Prosthetic's Showcase at SXSW (more)

The name Clinging To The Trees Of A Forest Fire doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, but that's how they like it. Uneasy. It's a methodology that runs throughout the band's second LP and Prosthetic debut Songs of Ill Hope and Desperation, which rolls up grind, doom, and elements of blackened filth into a nice, neat (and explosive) package. Dig on the lead track "Made of Coal" available for download above.

Their live show ain't no picnic either. At the Prosthetic showcase at SXSW, Clinging's performance was pummeling and a surprise in the best way, providing a pitch black counterpoint to the stoner madness going on in the other room along with time-tested killers Withered, The Funeral Pyre, and Landmine Marathon.

With all this as primer, we threw a handful of questions at Clinging vocalist Ethan McCarthy to ask him about the new record, the Denver metal scene, and his experience at SXSW 2010

Want to make my life simple? Put two killer showcases in the same venue. Well, unfortunately it wasn't three showcases in the same venue (Relapse was going on over at Red 7 - pics coming soon). Following the big bang of the BrooklynVegan day party at Emo's, I hightailed it over to the Mohawk on 3/17 (right next door to our quieter official BrooklynVegan showcase going on at Club DeVille...) (editor's note: ...that was often drowned out by the metal sounds blaring over the wall while bands like the The Middle East were playing soft sets...) for a double bill of mayhem with the Action PR Showcase on the outdoor stage and the Prosthetic Records showcase on the indoor. The night at the Mohawk show was marked by competing headlining sets: the great Landmine Marathon (who played the BV day party that day) and none other than High On Fire (one of their only appearances at the fest).

Also along for the ride were such notable greats as The Gates of Slumber, Withered (who also played Emo's), Zoroaster, Naam, Priestess, The Funeral Pyre, and many others. Not a single bad apple in the bunch. Of those, I had never seen The Funeral Pyre or Clinging To The Trees of A Forest Fire - both were impressive. TFP did blackened death with such intensity, it was hard to not be compelled to head nod. Clinging did abstract and atonal grindcore in the best way.

Although I missed Landmine Marathon (who would probably be in the running), best performance of the night goes to High On Fire who blazed through new material and old including the epic "Baghdad" (!) from their debut The Art of Self Defense. As their set progressed, it seemed that the band got looser on their instruments, and as a result, much tighter and more cohesive.
