Earlier this week, Pusha dropped a freestyle over Common's "Sweet" off of his new LP, The Dreamer/The Believer, which came out on Tuesday. The Smoking Section reports that the track is a diss at Drake (who is touring in 2012 with Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky). Stream it below.
Common played Highline Ballroom on Monday (12/19). Nas joined him at the show. You can stream the whole show below, and also check out a video of Nas joining in on "Ghetto Dreams" below.
Speaking of Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire and Emilio Rojas, they both just played S.O.B.'s with Kendrick Lamar on Monday (12/19). Talib Kweli saw the show, and tweeted, "The ASAP crew did a 20 min walk thru during the set. Classic Harlem lol." Check out a video from the show below.
Maybe Talib should give Diplo a heads up about Kendrick. Diplo recently tweeted "Kendrick lamar sounds like somebody that played for the supersonics in the 90s. Didn't know he was a rapper. What's his best tune?" (Hey Diplo, check out "The Spiteful Chant").
In other news, Kendrick told XXLMag that he and J. Cole are planning a joint album. "We're still trying to formulate it and sit down in a neutral zone, where either one of us is moving and doing shows, interviews and press all the time," he said. Kendrick told HipHopDx that he's lined up Just Blaze and Pete Rock for his next LP.
Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire will play NYC again when he opens for Action Bronson at Highline Ballroom on December 27. Tickets are still available. eXquire and Bronson both made Heems' list of favorite albums released in 2011.

Distant Relatives Nas & Damian Marley will team up for a summer show in NYC this year just like last. They'll hit Central Park Summerstage on August 11th. Tickets go on web presale at 10AM on Thursday (5/19) with regular sale hitting Friday. One difference from from last year though, they're calling this one their "grand finale," so don't sleep if you've been wanting to catch the pair together. THAT SAID, they were also just announced on the lineup of ACL which is happening a month later.
Wiz Khalifa also has a Summerstage show coming up.
In other hip hop news, Q-Tip will DJ The Fort Greene Festival kick off party on May 28th at Sanders Studio (525 Waverly Avenue in Brooklyn), a benefit to raise money for the forthcoming annual event. Tickets are $10 or $15 at the door.
As previously mentioned, Q-Tip will perform at the annual Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival on July 16th where he'll be joined by new additions Homeboy Sandman, Eternia, Shad, Nitty Scott and Kid Glyde. Get your tickets.
Rock the Bells is going to announce some news from a "launch party" at House of Blues in LA on May 24th.

Tickets for both events at Webster Hall on 5/22 are on sale. Meanwhle check out "The Greatest Beastie Boys Lyrical References To New York, In Order."

Chromeo at Webster Hall with A-Trak earlier this year (more by Brook Bobbins)
The American Museum of Natural History's One Step Beyond series continues on Friday, April 22nd with DJ sets from Chromeo, Telephoned, and Activaire. Tickets are on sale, and though $25 potentially seems like a hefty price tag, the surroundings (the museum) do make it an extra special place to party. One Step Beyond happens again on May 20 and June 24 with lineups TBA. In February Scissor Sisters were in charge of the music.
Meanwhile, the very fashionable Dave 1 of Chromeo's little brother A-Trak will be in NYC soon too as part of the Magic 8-Ball tour that hits Terminal 5 eight days after the Chromeo appearance (4/30). Tickets are still available for the show that also features Kid Sister, the Gaslamp Killer, and the recently added Clipse (it said "special guests" when the tour was announced).
Both A-Trak and Chromeo are at Coachella this weekend. Updated tour dates for both of them and some recent videos below..
Rock The Bells 2010? Um, awesome.
For the first time in the history of hip-hop entertainment, ROCK THE BELLS is slated to have headliners perform their most influential albums in their entirety. East-coast legends Wu-Tang Clan will perform Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers from beginning to end. Released in 1993, the group's debut album revived the New York rap scene and is widely-regarded as one of the greatest albums in hip-hop history. Considered one of the greatest MC's of all time, Rakim is set to perform 1987's, Paid In Full, his first full-length album with Eric B. Fellow Golden age, east coast rapper, Slick Rick will conquer The Great Adventures of Slick Rick. Released in 1989, this debut album became a certified-platinum classic topping the Billboard's Top R&B/ Hip Hop Albums charts. Highly regarded as the "THE TEACHER", KRS-One is a hip hop culture advocate, music producer, MC and published author. Hailed as one of the best live performers, KRS-One will perform [the Boogie Down Productions classic LP] Criminal Minded. The 1987 trend-setting album sampled music from various genres including rock, reggae and funk.In addition to that drooler of a hip hop lineup, Rock The Bells will also feature a rotating cast of also-awesomes, depending on where you lay your head. Lineups haven't been solidified by city but look for appearances from Street Sweeper Social Club, Murs and 9th Wonder, Wiz Khalifa, Clipse, Immortal Technique, Jedi Mind Tricks, Brother Ali, DJ Muggs and Ill Bill, Big Sean, Yelawolf, and more TBA (but not Lauryn Hill).
So far only four festival dates have been released, LA (8/21), San Fran (8/22), NYC at Governors Island (8/28), and DC (8/29). Ticket info is forthcoming.

Clipse at Highline Ballroom
Rock The Bells performer Clipse played Highline Ballroom on May 6th with an assist from Chiddy Bang, Ninjasonik, XV, and surprise guest Jadakiss. More pics from that show (but none of Jada - although there is video) are below...
Some great upcoming hip hop shows in the coming weeks, starting with Murs who is back with producer 9th Wonder for a new album, Murs 9th Wonder Fornever. Check out the first track from the album, "3:16 Part 2" above. Fornever is due on April 13th, and one week later, the "Bad Man" will kick off a US tour in Arizona that has him crashlanding at Highline Ballroom on May 19th. Tickets are on sale.
DJ Hi-Tek has done beats for the entire G-Unit crew, so in that light, I guess it makes sense that the thematically different Hi-Tek project (with Talib Kweli) Reflection Eternal would play the "This is 50" (Cent) event at Nokia Theater. Although for the life of me, I cant figure out why Reflection Eternal would support Lloyd Banks. Ah, nepotism. Tickets for April 29th at Nokia Theater with Banks and Reflection Eternal are on sale.
One day before the "This is 50" event, One Be Lo will step back into his old role as a member of Binary Star for a show at Knitting Factory (4/28) with DJ Abilities, Pigeon John, Donny Goines, and Nyle. Tickets are on sale. One Be Lo is scheduled to drop his new solo album B.A.B.Y. on MYX later this year, which features appearances from Royce Da 5'9, Freeway, Zion I, Phonte, Jean Grae, and more. Check out a track from the upcoming LP above.
Though Before The Casket Drops has, um, dropped, Clipse is still on the road promoting the record, laying down dates in NYC at Highline Ballroom (5/6, tickets) and Baruch College earlier that same day. Ninjasonik is on board to get the party started. Full tour dates are below.
Finally, a few hip hop greats from the 90s are scheduled to play NYC in the coming weeks. Naughty by Nature and Black Sheep will team up for a show at Brooklyn Masonic Temple on 5/21 (tickets still on sale). Cypress Hill could easily play a room much much larger than SOBs, but look for them at the venue on 4/15 (tickets still avail) and the blastmaster KRS-ONE on 4/20 (tickets). Wait... shouldn't those dates be reversed?
Tour dates and some videos are below...
The Clipse are playing Highline Ballroom on May 6th with Ninjasonik. Tickets are on sale.
Tickets go on sale at the same time for a July 22nd "US Air Guitars Finals" show at Irving Plaza.

As Pitchfork reported, The Roots Picnic will be happening again this year at Philadelphia's Festival Pier on Penn's Landing, on Saturday, June 5th. ?uestlove announced part of the lineup via a Twitvideo (which you can see below), and it includes of Mayer Hawthorne, Clipse, the Very Best, Neka, Tune-Yards (a recent Questlove favorite), Das Racist, Bajah & the Dry Eye Crew, Pattern Is Movement, headliner Vampire Weekend and The Roots (with two side-projects, Black Thought's Money Making Jam Boys and ?uestlove with DJ Jazzy Jeff). He also says that the fest will be reuniting a certain black hat/gold chain (and it could be assumed, Adidas)-wearing hip-hop crew.

Raekwon @ Irving Plaza (SANCHO PANZAA)
Backed only by DJ Symphony on turntables and Raekwon's brother Don P on vocals, the set could have used the energy of the other rappers who invade the album. Raekwon's set ran to 90 minutes, but it felt here and gone. It included the appearance of a huge cake in the shape of a purple cassette -- the original "Cuban Linx" album, from 1995, is commonly called the Purple Tape -- and an assortment of friends and business associates, either texting or appearing to smoke weed onstage. Two notable things happened, neither musical. That review come from Raekwon's show at Irving Plaza on Wednesday (12/16)
The songs came fast, one after another, without stagecraft or pacing. The set went back to early tracks by his old collective, the Wu-Tang Clan, touched on "Cuban Linx" Part 1 and settled in for stretches of the new album, including the scabrous, seedy "Gihad" and the imagistic, violent "Surgical Gloves."
There weren't as many Wu-Tang Clan cameos as might have been expected, aside from Cappadonna, who rapped verses on "Ice Cream." But halfway through, another member of the extended Wu family appeared: Cherry Jones, the mother of the Wu-Tang rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard, who died in 2004. She and Raekwon hugged, without speaking, for nearly a minute. Raekwon praised Dirty and his mother and then performed "Ason Jones," a tribute to Dirty on the new CD, with some emotional difficulty, his movements creaky, as if he needed oil. (He stopped the song at one point, shaking his head in sorrow, swearing and then collecting himself.)
Near the end -- after the duo Capone-N-Noreaga briefly hijacked the set -- Busta Rhymes, a longtime Raekwon booster, came onstage to congratulate his friend. Busta Rhymes likes to talk. Ten minutes later he was still there, praising Raekwon's rhymes and metaphors. Raekwon slumped against the opposite wall, looking humble, grateful and worn out. [NY Times]
Speaking of Highline Ballroom, Clipse has been added an opener for for the previously-mentioned Jadakiss and Melanie Fiona show happening at the venue on Tuesday (12/22) ("Concert starts @ 10PM"). Tickets are on sale.
Also Tuesday (12/22), is a show at Southpaw in Brooklyn:

Indie darlings Matt & Kim kicked off the show -- which celebrates the year's best music as determined by MTVu's college-centric audience -- with an energetic performance of their breakout single "Lessons Learned." Later, the duo returned to accept their Best Video Woodie award.Cyndi presented an award with Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester who also recently made an appearance at the Weezer (and Matt & Kim) show on Halloween that was sponsored by RXP aka the Matt Pinfield station. Matt was also at the Woodies as was Diplo who was DJing and David Cross, Zooey Deschanel, Janelle Monae, Dave 1 from Chromeo, and Mary Louise Parker. Matt and Kim didn't get naked like they do in their winning video (their second MTV win for that video), but their backup singers did strip down to their underwear.
"We've had one heck of a year," said Matt Johnson, before counterpart Kim Schifino leapt into the crowd.
Additional performers included veteran alt-rockers Death Cab for Cutie, who rocked the audience with its "New Moon" soundtrack single "Meet Me on the Equinox," as well as Passion Pit, the Dead Weather and Clipse, who were joined onstage by fellow rappers Cam'ron and Rick Ross.
Presenter highlights came from Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz and pop prankserts 3OH!3. Wentz rolled onto the stage holding a red Solo cup, while 3OH!3 gave a nod to Lady Gaga by dressing in her various VMA outfits. Asher Roth, will.i.am, and surprise guest Cyndi Lauper also presented awards. [Billboard]
The Dead Weather also played a show one day before the Woodies in Brooklyn. The Woodies air December 4th at 10pm. More pictures from the event (11/18 at Roseland Ballroom in NYC), below...

Passion Pit and the Clipse -- featuring Cam'ron and Rick Ross -- have just been confirmed to perform at the sixth-annual Woodies, joining already-announced acts Death Cab for Cutie, the Dead Weather and Matt & Kim. Breakout Woodie nominees Passion Pit will be performing their breakout single "The Reeling," while the Clipse will take on a pair of tracks, teaming with Cam on "Popular Demand (Popeye's)" and Ross for "I'm Good." Genre-blurring DJ/producer Diplo, who lately has been spending time as one half of Major Lazer, has also been announced as the house DJ for the night.Tickets to the Woodie Awards were mainly given out to college students. Last night (11/17), The Dead Weather played a pre-Woody show with Violent Soho at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. Less than a day earlier the news broke that Dead Weather drummer Jack White would be working with Wanda Jackson on her new album. More pictures and a video from the Brooklyn show, below...
But all the onstage action won't just be of the performance variety. On Monday (November 16), the Woodies also announced a slate of big-name presenters, including Pete Wentz, Zooey Deschanel, 3OH!3, Mary-Louise Parker, David Cross, Janelle Monáe, and Woodie of the Year nominee Asher Roth.
The 2009 mtvU Woodie Awards will take place this Wednesday [tonight] at the Roseland Ballroom in New York. The show will then premiere Friday, December 4, at 10 p.m. ET on mtvU, MTV, MTV2 and Palladia.
Tonight (10/20) hip-hop duo Clipse play a free Myspace Music show (part of the site's "The Release" series) at Hiro Ballroom. The show, which is not part of CMJ, is a pre-release party of sorts of the group's Columbia Records debut, Till the Caskey Drops, due December 8th, and includes guests Donnis, Jasmine Solano, Adam Tensta and DJ dB.
The show is first come, first served. Info on how to RSVP is below...

As Buckshot reminded the Nokia Theatre crowd at the end of his solo appearance opening for De La Soul on Thursday night (8/14), he has an album coming out with KRS-One called Survival Skills. That album drops on 9/15. On Saturday, August 29th, at 1PM, the duo will perform a free show at City Hall Park in NYC as part of J&R MusicFest, a three-day 'block party' in the Wall Street area (near J&R) that will feature multiple free shows including one by Clipse at 6:00PM on Friday the 28th.
Full J&R schedule with more pictures, and a bunch of videos, from the Nokia Theatre show, below...

Kanye West & Clipse @ Webster Hall - July 30, 2009
As predicted, Kanye West came out and performed one song with The Clipse (who replaced Drake) at the Diesel party at Webster Hall last night. After Clipse came The Roots who played a bunch of songs with Lykke Li. Earlier in the evening there were sets by Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt, Heartsrevolution, The Noisettes, Theopholis London, Cobra Starship and Passion Pit. More about all of them after some sleep, but in the meantime, here are a few pictures and some video...
The big Diesel show happens at Webster Hall in NYC tonight (7/30). Hopefully you already have a ticket or wristband. Special guests at the show will in fact be Lykke Li (who is here to play All Points West and will probably perform a song at Webster Hall with The Roots) and Clipse (who will probably perform a song at Webster Hall with Kanye West) (remember, Diesel likes live mash ups). There's a Jay-Z rumor going around, but all I've heard is "not true". For Passion Pit the Diesel show will be their second with the Roots in two nights. Last night it was on the Jimmy Fallon show. Video from that below...

Tickets are on sale .
This has has nothing to do with the trip hop band from the 90s, so why are we reporting on a shoe exhibition? The show will also include a band of hip hop noteables including Big Boi of Outkast (with Sleepy Brown?), Clipse, The Cool Kids, Wale,
and the only man cool enough to get away with a pink Range Rover, (Killa!) Cam'ron!
UPDATE: Cam'ron is no longer on the NYC bill, but Ninjasonik, Team Facelift, and "CO HEADLINER TBA" are.
Cam'ron's new album, Crime Pays, is out now. Check out a fascinating interview with Killa Cam where he reveals his status with the Dipset, his thoughts on hip hop beef, and much more. Check that out here.
Big Boi's looooong awaited solo project Sir Luscious Leftfoot: The Son of Chico Dusty, will be released "soon" now that a label dispute with Jive Records has been resolved.
The Cool Kids released their new mixtape, Gone Fishing, a few weeks ago. Get that above. The pair will ALSO be semi-in-the-neighborhood this weekend, as they are slated to appear at the B.O.M.B. Fest in Waterford, CT on June 13th. They are also scheduled to be part of NXNE.
DC's own Wale is about to hit the road, but recently dropped the video for "Chillin" featuring Lady Gaga... who will be touring with Kanye West soon. Check that out below...

While we wait to hear if the R-E-U-P-G-A-N-G (aka The Re-Up Gang) can truly get it for cheap in this economy, Clipse have dropped their newest mixtape, The Road to Till The Casket Drops. The Road... is doing double duty: serving as both a preview to their 2009 long-player Till The Casket Drops, and as a coming-out party for their new cloths-ing line Play Cloths.
Meanwhile, (ex-Re-Up?) Sandman isn't one to make you sleep... he dropped his new mixtape, #1 Suppliya, on the same day on his Cannons Inc site and The Re-Up Gang blog. This is a somewhat odd move for the Philly native, as he recently stated to HipHopDX that he is no longer part of Re-Up... Sandman also dropped his Gianormous digital LP for free download earlier this year (pick that up here)
The Re-Up Gang dropped their first true album, Clipse Presents: The Re-Up Gang, on Koch Records in August. The 2009 release Till the Casket Drops "will feature production from Timbaland, Danjahandz, Scott Storch, Dame Grease, Sean "Diddy" Combs' production team The Hitmen, Kanye West and Rick Rubin."
Of the new Clipse songs on their new mixtape, "Big Dreams" also appears on a new 'Coast 2 Coast' mixtape hosted by Lupe Fiasco. Get that HERE. Check out the whole tracklist for The Road to Till The Casket Drops below...

If not obvious by the 2008 Fun Fun Fun Fest coverage so far, I was having the most fun (fun fun) over the weekend with all the punk, metal and hardcore on stages 3a and 3b (two connected stages to avoid long times between sets). Highlights and pictures from day one are HERE. Highlights of day two (9/9) were DOA, Frightened Rabbit, the ska punk, politics and crowd of Leftover Crack, Cro-Mags (jam) (John Joseph w/ one of Cro-Mags' past drummers, AJ from Leeway on guitar and Craig Setari of Sick of it All on bass), what I saw of St. Vincent and Black Angels, the vegan sausage pizza, and Bad Brains. I managed to catch a few songs of Islands who sounded great, but totally missed Spinto Band and Annuals. Also saw pieces of Kevin Seconds, Chuck Ragan, and Ben Nichols's solo-frontmen sets. Saw Black Joe Lewis and most of Trash Talk, but neither lived up to my expectations in the daytime festival setting. I went back and forth between the pre-headliner sets of Minus the Bear and Bouncing Souls, and ran over to watch one song of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah during a Bad Brains reggae segment. Despite the competition, CYHSY still pulled in a respectable sized crowd. The stages were far enough away in general, but I could also still hear Alec Ounsworth's unmistakable voice at times between Bad Brains songs depending on where I was standing (I watched Bad Brains from various areas throughout their set). Clipse were headlining on the stage farthest away from Bad Brains so I totally missed them, and Kool Keith, who played that same stage earlier. Bad Brains ended earlier than curfew which meant I got to run over and catch about 20 minutes of Tim and Eric which was a great way (laughing) to end the hectic two day fest.
One unfortunate aspect of the weekend was the dust. It was a problem at ACL this year too. Dry dirt and wind meant you were constantly breathing it in. A signifigant portion of the crowd was wearing bandanas or other gas mask-like things on their faces. I didn't, but I should have because I think it made me a little sick. More pictures from day two below...

"highline ballroom is a proper hip-hop venue. it has a booming soundsystem, two bars, and most importantly, VIP booths designed for seeing and being seen. last night, i met up with my friend kriss and his brother, mads, to experience the pinnacle of coke-rap, the black card era, viginia's finest: clipse. pusha and malice were joined by ab-liva of the re-up gang, but sandman was conspicuously absent (this was supposedly the re-up album release party). as expected, an energetic show was provided with lots of gun-shaped hand puppets, neptunes production, and fans trying to grab malice's $60,000 pendant." "U-N-I: This pair of Inglewood rappers have helped to resurrect the Cali backpack rap scene (along with Pac Division who inked with Universal, so, goodbye indie days!) and ushered in a new era in L.A. amid all the gangsta boogie and clichés. "The Clipse Present the Re-Up Gang," is spearheaded by the single, "Fast Life," which was produced by Scott Storch, and boasts three unreleased remixed tracks from "We Got it 4 Cheap Vol. 3."...
