Hans-Joachim Roedelius is about to head out on a tour that begins with his appearance at ATP NJ on Saturday (10/1) and culminates with his appearance at Moogfest. After ATP, Hans-Joachim will play a NYC show at Littlefield on Sunday (10/2) with Xambuca and Ron Anderson's Pak. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Conrad Schnitzler, prolific German musician who was in early lineups of Kosmische (or krautrock, as the genre became known to English-speaking audiences) groups Tangerine Dream and Kluster, passed away due to [stomach] cancer on August 4. He was 74.

Schnitzler appeared on Tangerine Dream's first album, 'Electronic Meditation,' and he was a founding member of seminal krautrock group Kluster, along with Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius. Three albums were released under the Kluster name before Schnitzler left in 1971 to work with his other group, Eruption. Moebius and Roedelius continued on as Cluster and actively recorded and toured on and off until 2010.

Schnitzler was active all the way to end. He completed a new solo work 00/830 four days before he died. According to his website you can order a copy by emailing conpanie (at) yahoo (dot) com. RIP to Conrad.

ATP Asbury Park ("I'll Be Your Mirror") has released the second wave of artist announcements including many of Portishead's choices for the bill! We already knew about Jeff Mangum, Bonnie Prince Billy, Shellac, Chavez and more. New additions include, not surprisingly, Portishead-related acts Anika and Beak> (and this time Anika will be performing live and not just DJing). There's also now a rare reunion of The Pop Group, an Ultramagnetic MC's reunion (WITH Kool Keith), Silver Qluster (Simeon of Silver Apples and Hans-Joachim Roedelius of Cluster/Harmonia), Thee Siliver Mt. ...a very special live performance that is happening this weekend in New York City. One of the true pioneers of electronic music will be here, none other than Hans-Joachim Roedelius. As you know, Roedelius' work in Cluster and Harmonia is legendary, these two groups being hailed by everyone from David Bowie to Brian Eno, who would later record with these Krautrock giants and continue to collaborate with Roedelius. Roedelius will be performing in a duo with the pianist Alessandra Celletti. These two incendiary musicians are doing a small tour in support of their new Transparency Records release Sustanza di Cose Sperata, and if you buy a pair of advance tickets here at [Other Music] or at the door, Transparency will give you a free copy of the CD as well.
