The Numerators' seven inch art

The Numerators have a new 7" of reverb-y psychedelia due via Suicide Squeeze next week. The release features two tracks, the decidedly calm and spacey "Dead" and the psyche-spazz freakout "Finally Sees," both of which are streaming below (the latter for the first time).

The Numerators kick off a string of US dates on Friday (4/26), starting at Paradise Lost in New Brunswick, NJ and ending with an appearance at Shea Stadium on May 11 with The Orwells, Cosmonauts and The Garden (tickets). The band will also play Secret Project Robot on May 17  which will be a record release party for the 7".

Yes, that is correct, The Orwells are on the road for a select set of dates outside of their previously discussed appareance at Lollapalooza. The shows are part of a mini-tour of the East Coast in early May, the dates of which are below along with all streams.

Autre Ne Veut at BV-SXSW 2013 (more by Amanda Hatfield)

As mentioned, Downtown Records are taking their Downtown Music Festivals to different North American cities this year, including NYC from May 10 to 11 across various LES venues, including Mercury Lounge, Bowery Ballroom, Angel Orensanz Center, Pianos, Cake Shop, Tammany Hall, Element, Capitale, Rockwood Music Hall and more.

In addition to the previously announced lineup of Black HIppy (aka Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock), Purity Ring, Earl Sweatshirt, DIIV, Sky Ferreira, Trash Talk, Palma Violets, Teengirl Fantasy, and others; more acts have just been added. Those new acts include Andrewy Wyatt (of Miike Snow), Autre Ne Veut, Guards, Ryan Hemsworth, Port St. Willow, Kilo Kish, Ratking, Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire, Vashtie, Fat Tony, d'Eon and Kingdom (playing with Kelela, who sang a song on the Teengirl Fantasy album last year and sings a song on the new Kingdom EP this year, which you can listen to below).

2-Day passes for the festival have sold out, but single day tickets for May 10 and May 11 are still available. The day-by-day lineups have also been announced, and you can check those out below.

Did you have any musical ambitions prior to this?

Noni Dead: When I was much younger living in Glasgow I was thinking it would be nice to start a band and make music, but I have never learned to play instruments. The first time in the studio was with Anton on the Golden Frost. I went into the studio and did a few words, and then when Brian Jonestown played at Glastonbury I went onstage with them.

How did that become 'Dead Mantra' and Dead Skeletons?

ND: With 'Dead Mantra', I was doing an installation in the art museum in Reykjavik in 2008, and I wanted to bring the Dead Concept further, to use other kinds of art like music.

I asked Henrik if he could do a Dead Mantra song with the slogan 'He who fears death cannot enjoy life'. For me it was a spiritual battle song, because I have been HIV positive for 20 years, and the Dead Concept has grown out of that experience, my fear of death. I thought it would be great to do a dead song.

When I put the song on it is like I am going to war, I am beating the virus. I had Hepatitis C and I beat it on my own. For me there is a whole war, a spiritual, nuclear battle inside me. It is the song I want to hear when I go to meet my maker. It tells me not to give up, and to cure myself. It's my meditation song, and I love rock & roll. - [Quietus]

Reykjavik's Dead Skeletons cast a gloomy (yet life-affirming) shadow on their brand of psych rock with singer Nonni Dead at times in the Jim Morrisson/Ian Astbury school of bellowing. Nonni formed Dead Skeletons in the late-'00s and their most recent release was the "Budda Christ" 12" that came out back in December. You can stream the title track below along with some other material from the band.

Dead Skeletons are coming over for Austin Psych Fest and will play a few other American shows while here, including two in NYC: May 8 at Glasslands (tickets) with Night Beats and Cosmonauts, and May 9 at Mercury Lounge (tickets). All tour dates are listed below...

The Fresh & Onlys @ Psych Fest 2011 (more by Tim Griffin)

The Reverberation Appreciation Society and The Black Angels have released the initial lineup poster for the 5th annual Austin Psych Fest. This year's fest, running from April 27th - 29th (in Austin), will take place at Austin's two newest big venues, recently opened Emo's East and the soon-to-be open Beauty Ballroom which is next door.

Emo's East is now the only Emo's since their Red River location closed on 12/30, and the Beauty Ballroom is (hopefully) having their rescheduled Grand Opening on January 27th (with Theophilus London and Treasure Fingers) and continuing on January 28th.

APF will feature around 60 bands over the three day, two room event. About 40 are included in the poster below, with another 20 or so to be announced in March. Announced bands include the Black Angels (who played Emo's East on New Year's Eve), the Black Lips, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Dead Meadow, Olivia Tremor Control, Wooden Shijps, and many more. Weekend passes go on sale this Saturday (January 21st) at 12pm CST at austinpsychfest.com.
