Chain of Strength at Acheron in 2012 (more by Fred Pessaro)
Hardcore vets Chain of Strength, who were briefly around from 1988 to 1991, reunited in 2012 for Revolution 25 (pics) at Irving Plaza and a much smaller Brooklyn show at Acheron (pics). They've since played LA in 2013 and it turns out the reunion isn't over yet, as they'll be going on a short Northeast tour in June with Turnstile, Strife, Mindset and Praise which brings them back to Brooklyn's Acheron on June 15. Tickets for that show go on sale via Ticketfly on May 8. All dates are listed below.
The brief tour is leading up to their appearance at Canada's Amnesia Rockfest (6/20-21) with blink-182, Motley Crue, Weezer, Alice In Chains, Megadeth, Primus, Danzig with Doyle, Mastodon, Cock Sparrer, Black Flag, Fear, Dead Kennedys, Misfits, Joan Jett, Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, Meshuggah, Henry Rollins, Rocket from the Crypt, Judge, Strife, Glassjaw, Dying Fetus, Cannibal Corpse, Title Fight and many more. Tickets for that fest are on sale now.

Dave Hill, whose next edition of The Dave Hill Explosion, goes down at the UCB Theater on 2/28 at 9:30pm with special guest Kristen Johnston, is, as we already knew, the King of Metal. Watch and learn below...
It's that time of year already I guess. NME quizzed a whole bunch of artists about their favorite album of the year. Bat For Lashes chose Alt-J who recently won the Mercury Prize and who chose Polica as their favorite. That and more, if you can understand what they're saying, in the video, below....

Nachtmystium at The Studio at Webster Hall (more by Markus Shaffer)
While Nachtmystium may experiment with different directions from LP to LP, there is always one constant, an unstoppable live show. Now that punk ethos and those icy blasts are the focus of a new release, Nachtmystium Live at Roadburn due on Feb 17th via Roadburn Records (on 2LP) and currently available for pre-order in Europe and at select US distros.
Nachtmystium has been known to feature different configurations on the live stage. Their Roadburn appearance not only featured Ron van Herpen from The Devils Blood/Astrosoniq and Teun van der Velden from Astrosoniq on guitar/keys respectively, but it was the first time they played with them following the abrupt departure of Jeff Wilson mid-tour:
"For your information, ...these two guys had THREE HOURS of practice with us EVER, on the day of the show none the less. We had not met them in person previous to the day of the show. They'd been asked to help us out (due to some unfortunate circumstances with a member of Nachtmystium having to leave for home mid-tour) about nine days before our performance at Roadburn. Both of them learned the entire set from the album recordings of the songs we played in these nine days, and then had a three hour window in the afternoon on show-day to rehearse with us as a full band. With all of that turmoil, it's hard to envision the live document to be anything less than calamatous, but I submit "A Seed for Suffering" as proof to the contrary. The song is taken from the live 2LP. and you can download it above, and stream it below.
Nachtmystium will hit the road with Cradle of Filth, playing Best Buy Theater in NYC on March 3rd and Starland Ballroom in NJ on March 5th as part of the "Creatures From The Black Abyss Tour". Tickets are still available. All dates are reposted below.
The song stream and the tracklisting/art for the new release are down there too...

Lords... and they're angry! Typocracy)
I bid you good day kind sir and m'lady! May I also say Fuck All Y'all Motherfuckers! That is definitely one album that I have had on blast all this week... the new record by spazzy Louisville hardcore freaks, Lords! Check out "Blasphemy Act" from Fuck All Y'all... currently streaming over at their myspace. Of course it isn't all gravy for dem Kentucky boys. Let's cut to the chase:
Matt Jaha will not be playing bass in the band anymore, and rather than cancel the upcoming tour Eric and I decided to do it as a two piece...I just get some more amps to make up for the bass...Check out the long version for a tale that includes flailing fists, and flying guitar cabinets. The band is searching for a suitable replacement who must "be able to play the songs". Sounds reasonable. Best of luck, my dudes.
The mighty Anaal Nathrakh have finished writing their new album, the follow-up to the critically-lauded Hell is Empty, and All the Devils are Here from 2007! Mick Kenney is currently shaping the songs in the studio and hopes to have V.I.T.R.I.O.L.'s vocals done in February for an album release in June of 2009...
Deathwish has signed one of my favorite crusty European bands, Victims! Look for the band to re-release Killer on Deathwish later this year.
As we discussed earlier, Jarboe dropped Mahakali while Early Man dropped Beware The Circling Fin on The End Records. Want 'em both? Email BVCONTESTS@HOTMAIL.COM (subject: Early Jarboe) and win one of three sets of BOTH the Early Man EP on 10" vinyl and the Jarboe CD. Include your first and last name, winners will be contacted. Meanwhile, dig on Jarboe's "The House of Void" available for download above.

DOWNLOAD: At The Gates - The Dying (MP3) (unreleased)
We knew they were coming back from the dead..... they were scheduled to play at a gajillion European festivals. What we didn't know is that melodic death metal legends At The Gates were making other plans as well.... plans for a two week tour of the US! According to the guys at Decibel, At The Gates will embark on their first US tour in eleven years. They last toured here in the summer of 1996 - in the opening slot for Napalm Death. The NYC show was at the now defunct Wetlands. Stay tuned for the new dates and cities. We'll post them when they get announced.
The core of At The Gates splintered into multiple bands including The Haunted, Disfear (who has an excellent new record), Skitsystem, and Cradle Of Filth. For more, read the whole awesome feature Decibel ran in their March issue.
