Dominic of Mogwai & Crippled Black Phoenix (more by Zach Dilgard)

Mogwai have announced a new set of North American dates, including THREE nights at Music Hall of Williamsburg! Kaaaaa-ching! Still riding high off of 2008's The Hawk Is Howling, the last time Mogwai played our fair city (NYC) was at the much larger Terminal Five, right before they headed upstate to play ATP with My Bloody Valentine. The remainder of that tour was cancelled due to the illness of drummer Martin Bulloch.

Dominic Aitchison of Mogwai also plays with Crippled Black Phoenix, who have scheduled a date of their own in NYC... at Mercury Lounge on April 12th. Tickets are still available. Crippled Black Phoenix's tour wraps up two days before Mogwai's trek kicks off. All North American dates are with Ascent of Everest.

DOWNLOAD: Crippled Black Phoenix - "Rise Up And Fight" (MP3)

Crippled Black Phoenix, featuring Dominic of Mogwai and Justin Greaves of ex-Electric Wizard/Iron Monkey fame, have announced some tentative tour dates including a confirmed date at Mercury Lounge on 4/12 with Ascent Of Everest. Tickets are on sale.

Crippled Black Phoenix are scheduled to drop 200 Tons of Bad Luck on Invada Records in April 14th. 200 Tons of Bad Luck is "a single album version comprising of a collection of songs" from a pair of so-far import only albums, The Resurrectionists and Night Raider. No details on the release date of those two records as of yet.

What do you get when you cross an Iron Monkey with a Mogwai? No, not some freakishly awesome kung-fu fighter that can't eat after midnight... You get a Crippled Black Phoenix!

2009 will see three LP releases for Crippled Black Phoenix. The Resurrectionists and Night Raider will be only be available as imports (much like their 2006 release, A Love Of Shared Disasters) by Invada Records (a label owned by Portishead's Geoff Barrow). In the US, Cargo Records is releasing 200 Tons Of Bad Luck, "a single album version comprising of a collection of songs from both [previously named new] albums". That will drop in "March-ish" of 2009.

CBP was originally conceived as a project between Dominic Aitchison (Mogwai) and Justin Greaves, who has done time in many great heavy bands including Electric Wizard, Iron Monkey, and Teeth Of Lions Rule The Divine (with sunn o))) members Stephen O'Malley & Greg Anderson and current Cathedral frontman Lee Dorrian). The band has taken many shapes and colors since inception, but currently count Joe Volk (Gonga), Kostas Panagiotou and Charlotte Nicholls as the other members.

Don't let that pedigree fool you though, the band definitely leans alot more in the Godspeed You Black Emperor! direction, as you may be able to tell from "Rise Up And Fight" (downloadable above). Check it out, and look out for news of a US Tour as soon as we have full details.
