Clinging To The Trees of A Forest Fire at SXSW (more here)

A bunch of killer shows are on the way in the coming weeks, CMJ aside. Clinging To The Trees of A Forest Fire's Songs of Ill Hope and Desperation is a pretty killer slab of blackened sludgy grind, and the band impressed with their live show at SXSW this year. The band will hit the East Coast for a string of dates including The Acheron on 10/29 with Flourishing, The Communion, and Deep in Vein. Get out to see them. Full CTTTOAFF dates are below.
Negative Plane are welcoming their new Ajna Offensive/Invictus Productions LP, Stained Glass Revelations, with a record release show at Europa on (when else?) Halloween (10/31/10) with Villains and Occultation. $11 gets you into the black mass (tickets here), and make sure and pick up a copy of the new LP that will be available in "limited quantities".
Early 80s Metal Blade obscurity Tyrant will play their first ever East Coast show Friday night (10/15) at The Delancey with October 31, Vermefug, and Mutant Supremacy. $10 gets you in.
Skeletonwitch and Misery Index will support Job for a Cowboy at Santos Party House on 12/16. Tickets are on sale. Skeletonwitch will hit the road for a string of dates with Landmine Marathon and Withered in late November prior to the NYC date, though unfortunately that tour won't hit NYC. Misery Index will play NJ Deathfest next weekend with Cannabis Corpse, Cardiac Arrest, Call The Paramedics and so much more over the two days at Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ. Head to the NJ Deathfest site for more info. Full Skeletonwitch dates are below.
Speaking of Cannabis Corpse, the band will play NYC on 10/24 with Mutant Supremacy, Castevet, Fin'Amor, and Respawn the Ancients on 10/24. The show kicks off at 6PM at Bowery Electric. Castevet will also play Don Pedro's on Saturday (10/16) with Buckshot Facelift, No Remission, Water Temples, $4 gets you in. Full Castevet dates are below.
American Hardcore will be the focus of a celebration this Sunday (10/17) at Knitting Factory with Urban Waste, Downlow, Yo! $cunt, a slide show by American Hardcore author/filmmaker Steven Blush, and special guest DJ George Tabb. Tickets are still available for the all-ages show.
Crucifist will return to NYC to play Acheron on 11/6, joined by Rochester's Sarcous and Brooklyn's own Mutilation Rites. The all ages shindig kicks off at 8PM. Full Crucifist dates are below.
And last but not least, Deicide will play Gramercy on 2/21 with Pathology, Belphegor, Blackguard, and Neuraxis. Tickets are on sale in both regular and VIP varieties. In related news, the countdown is on until Glen Benton cancels his appearances at all Deicide dates. Full Deicide tour sked is below.

Nominon

Nominon will bring a dose of icy Swedish death metal to a sizzling Bowery Electric on July 6th as part of a tour with Infinitum Obscure and Quinta Essentia. The bill will be rounded out by the dark blackened doom forces of Evoken (who cancelled their Roadburn appearance due to volcanic ash) and thrashers Mutant Supremacy. Tickets are on sale. The show marks Nominon's first foray into the US since the release of their new album Monumentomb, out now on Ibex Moon.
It's not the only show that Mutant Supremacy has laid out, as the band is also scheduled to play Europa twice in the coming months. First, look for the Brooklyn team on June 20th with At War, Midnight, Crucifist, and others as part of a post-Punk Island show (tickets). After that, make sure and catch them when the band opens for Floridian dark lords Malevolent Creation and Gigan on July 29th as part of a larger tour for the duo. Tickets are on sale.
Mutilation Rites are also scheduled to play that June 20th show before hitting the road through early July, eventually playing Union Pool on July 17th with The Funeral Pyre and Early Graves. In addition, the band will play Lit Lounge with Valdur on July 19th and Europa TWO more times: with Belgian black metallers Enthroned (their first show since 2001) and Destroyer 666 (!) on August 4th (tickets) and then with Hellbastard and Atakke on Oct 8th (tickets). The Enthroned date at Europa is part of a larger US tour with D666, and a world tour for Enthroned.
Malevolent Creation is also scheduled to play NYC again, this time supporting Exodus alongside Holy Grail and Bonded By Blood at Gramercy Theater on August 28th. Tickets are on sale.

The Funeral Pyre at SXSW (more here)

With their new LP Vultures At Dawn due on June 8th via Prosthetic Records, blackened death-dealers The Funeral Pyre will hit the road with the crushing hardcore combo Early Graves for a string of dates that will include a BV/1000 Knives show at Union Pool on 7/17 with upstart black-metal killers Mutilation Rites.
Meanwhile, Mutilation Rites has a few other dates on their calendar including June 1st at Public Assembly when the band will team up with Australian BM badasses Nazxul (who are playing MDF this weekend) and New England's Witch Tomb. The show kicks off at 8PM and $15 gets you in.
June 20th will see Mutilation Rites at Europa with a killer bill of bands including At War, Midnight (who are playing the the Punk Island Festival that day), Deathrash, Crucifist (also playing Punk Island), and Mutant Supremacy. Tickets are on sale.
Both Mutilation Rites and Mutant Supremacy played Party Expo on 5/25 with Cannabis Corpse.
Early Graves are currently streaming the title track from their forthcoming LP Goner, at their myspace. Harsh, pissed off hardcore of the 1000MPH sort, Goner impresses me more with every listen. Make sure and pick the LP up when it drops on June 22nd and get out to see the band on July 17th. Seriously badass.
Vultures at Dawn is The Funeral Pyre's fourth LP since their inception in 2003. Check out a track, "Personal Exile" streaming at Metalsucks. The band recently played SXSW, tagging both the BV/1000 Knives/Crustcake Pizza Party on 3/18 as well as the Prosthetic Showcase the night before.

Krallice at Union Pool (more by Lori Baily)

With a recent and triumphant show still etched in our memory, Krallice has scheduled another NYC show on Jan 10, 2009 at Knitting Factory with Crucifist, Ancient Wound, and Humanity Falls. Tickets are on sale.
Worth noting is the addition of Crucifist to the lineup who (originally discussed here) contains members of Odoruin and one Dan Lilker of Anthrax/Exit-13/Brutal Truth/Venomous Concept/SOD/Nuclear Assault/many others fame. Crucifist is on a brief east-coast jaunt that kicks off in Cleveland, does two nights in Pittsburgh before pounding their way to a final date in Boston. Full Crucifist dates are below. The band is celebrating the release of Demon-Haunted World, which dropped earlier this annum. Download FOUR tracks from that effort above.
Dan Lilker played with Brutal Truth last night (12/9), when they supported Municipal Waste along with Phobia and Cauldron at Gramercy. Pics from that show are forthcoming.
Both Krallice's Dimensional Breakthrough and Crucifist's Demon Haunted World are out now via Profound Lore. Cop them joints.

Fall of Efrafa
Though the rain is mostly gone, it's still a doomy gloomy day here at Week In Metal, where we kick things off with Fall of Efrafa, who have dropped their FINAL album of thundering post-hardcore sludge on Denovali. It's called INLÉ and takes inspiration from an extremely unlikely source, the book Watership Down. The final in a trilogy of LPs that also included OWSLA and ELIL, INLÉ is available for FREE download above of for purchase via Denovali or Sound Devastation.
More details on Shrinebuilder have surfaced, including the FULL album art, as well as the tracklisting for the upcoming self-titled LP. Dig on that art here and the tracklisting below. Speaking of Al Cisneros, Vice blog recently interviewed Sleep and Om are on their way to NYC.
Roadburn has announced that 2010's Roadburn event will be partly curated by none other than Tom Warrior of Celtic Frost/Hellhammer/Triptykon fame! His new band Triptykon will headline Only Death Is Real, the Friday 4/16/10 event, and Tom will choose an additional 16 bands for the festival! Stokeage. More info is to come.
San Francisco's Flood, who take a line or two from the great Khanate with their low & slow doomy funeral marches, recently dropped their new LP Native on the esteemed MeteorCity (get that here). Check out a track from that massive LP, "Aphelion", which is downloadable above. Flood currently has no plans to head out east, but here's for hoping!
Kirk Lloyd is currently shopping an EP of unreleased material by legendary southern dirge merchants Buzzov*en!
It was recorded in Brooklyn by Shane and mixed by Mike Davidson and Brian Hill. Its 4 songs including "Nod" which was previously released on a split with Sourvein. The 3 other tunes are "Paintake","Breed" and "Mainline". "Mainline" got redone by the At A Loss lineup, but is actually a good bit different... with the original lineup of Brian Hill on bass, Ash Lee on drums, ...and this is the only recording with Johhny Brito on gtr. [Also look for] ...Pat Vigil now in Watch Them Die doing 2nd vocal on "Breed"!!Meanwhile, Kirk Lloyd's current project, KK Lloyd & The Disciples (which includes Brian Patton of Eyehategod/Soilent Green and Jimmy Bower of EHG/Down) have scheduled a few shows in the NOLA area and are wrapping up the mixing and tracking of Purepainblues, the new album. A Hydra Head spokesman has stated that 2010 will see the release of the long-awaited Revelation: Sick Again LP by Buzzov*en. Sourvein are scheduled to play Union Pool next week with Saviours.
The legendary Autopsy will reunite at Maryland Deathfest 2010 bringing along with them Coffins, Melechesh, and Jesus Crost! Chris Reifert's current home, Abcess, recently released a split with Population Reduction.
