As you may know, the concert promotion company Hypnocraft puts on shows at the Manhattan Inn, and tonight (2/2) they've got a last-minute show with some cool performers. It's kind of an improvisational variety show type thing, with Kimbra, "Delicate" Steve Marion, Australia's Sophia Brous, and White Hinterland's Casey Dienel, backed by members of Twin Shadow's band, Chairlift's band, Julia Holter's band, Invisible Familiars and Plastic Ono Band, Cuddle Magic, Star Rover, Arthur Russell's Instrumentals and more. The show starts at 9 PM, and it's free with a suggested $10 donation.
HIghlights include Tigue (who were also just announced for Ecstatic Music Festival) and Alpenglow on 12/3; Arc Waves, Katie Von Schleicher (who was also just announced for Invisible Familiars' Ace Hotel residency) and Cantina on 12/7, Psychic Twin and Jen Goma (ASDIG, TPOBPAH, People Get Ready) on 12/10; and Cuddle Magic, Booker Stardrum and Ryan Dugre on 12/14.
The final show (unless they add more before the year ends) is a Joni Mitchell tribute on December 17, curated by TEEN (who are also performing) with Jen Goma, Damon McMahon (aka Amen Dunes), Xander Duell, Miles Francis, Joan Wasser (Joan As Police Woman), Aerial East, Noah Hecht and Ryan Dugre. It's a suggested $5-10 donation, space is limited and entry is based on a first come first serve basis.

Lady Lamb the Beekeeper at Knitting Factory - 2/23/13
Lady Lamb the Beekeeper, aka Brooklyn folk singer Aly Spaltro, released her newest album, Ripely Pine, last week (2/19) via Ba Da Bing, and played a few Northeast shows in support of it this month, including a NYC show over the weekend at Knitting Factory on Saturday (2/23) with Xenia Rubinos and Cuddle Magic. It was a full band show for Lady Lamb, featuring members of both openers, members of Pearl and the Beard, and her father on guitar. Pictures from that show are in this post, and you can check out more of them below, along with the new video for "The Nothing Pt II" off Ripely Pine, and song streams of two other tracks, "Bird Balloons" and "Rooftop."
Lady Lamb the Beekeeper and Xenia Rubinos, who also played the Knitting Factory show, will be playing a couple more shows this March and then heading out on a full tour together in May, which comes back to NYC on May 11 at Glasslands. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Anais Mitchell was just in NYC to open the first two nights on Bon Iver's four-night run at Radio City (review of night 3 is HERE, pics of his post-Radio City show with Frank Ocean are HERE). She's got a few duo shows with Michael Chorney this week into next, and in late November she'll kick off a headlining tour which brings her back to NYC for a show at Bowery Ballroom on December 3 with Cuddle Magic, who also open other dates on the tour. Anais Mitchell released her new album, Young Man In America, earlier this year, the followup to 2010's Hadestown, a folk opera which featured a significant amount of guest vocals from Justin Vernon and other singers. The video for "Coming Down" from that album and a list of all dates are below.
