Crazy Spirit (and fan) at 285 Kent (more by Tod Seelie)

If you were anywhere near The Acheron, 285 Kent or Le Poisson Rouge this weekend, you might have notices the masses of leather jackets, studs, spikey hair, and general attitude. For four days (April 18-21) New York's Alright took those venues with sold-out shows at 538 Johnson, Acheron, Saint Vitus & 285 Kent and featuring bands from as far as Japan and Spain. Nihilistic, explosive punk rock shows took place during the day and at night, and included names like Hank Wood & the Hammerheads, Rival Mob, Culo, Hoax, Crazy Spirit, Green Beret, Dawn of Humans, Glam, Stagnation and many many more. Baroness, Bitter End, Coliseum, Culo, Cut Hands, Soul Search and Waste Management are the latest batch of additions to the 2013 iteration of Chaos in Tejas, joining names as varied as Bolt Thrower, Manilla Road, Terveet Kadet, Framtid, Andy Stott, The Marked Men, The Damned, The Bats, Iceage and many more. The fest happens May 30 - June 2. Full lineup is below and tickets are still available.
In addition to the festival, Chaos in Tejas will ALSO host at least a pair of shows during SXSW including an unofficial show at Beerland on Thursday night with Blundertown (3/14) featuring Wiccans, The Spits (who play the BV day party on Thurs), Off with their Heads, Waxahachee, Meat Market, Virals and Rough Francis (who also play a BV day party). Then look for Chaos in Tejas to split Red 7 along with Relapse on Saturday 3/16, bringing along another eclectic lineup that includes Iron Lung and Big Freedia. Wow. Flyers are below.

DC's Damaged City Fest has been announced for middle April, with some overlap of bands scheduled for NYC's punk fiesta New York's Alright. Look for names like Culo, Coke Bust, Double Negative, Dropdead, No Tolerance (who's members play with Rival Mob soon), Negative Approach, Night Birds, Prisoner Abuse, Tenement and many many more. Full lineup for the festival, scheduled to take place at long-time DIY space St. Stephen's Church on April 12 and 13, is below. Tickets are on sale.
Speaking of Wisconsin band Tenement, look for them to hit Grand Victory on April 11 with touring partners Night Birds, Marvin Berry & The New Sound and Dipers. Tickets are on sale. Stream a few Tenement songs, including their split with Culo, below.
In other news, Night Birds are prepping a new split for Fat Wreck Chords. Look for the four-song EP Maimed for the Masses via the label on May 7, with the title track providing a primer for the band's forthcoming LP Born To Die In Suburbia due on Grave Mistake this summer.
In more punk news, for a taste of what' you're in for at New York's Alright 2013, head to 285 Kent tonight (2/1) where Who Killed Spikey Jacket? will team with Sad Boys, Perdition, Goosebumps and Murderer. Four of the five bands scheduled for tonight will perform at the festival which happens in April.
