"Since the unfortunate passing of Jay Reatard, there has been a void in the hearts of scumfucks everywhere. Enter Cy Barkley, a man straddling the line between garage and punk with a black Gibson in hand. Rock Together showcases a more accessible side of Cy Barkley and the Way Outsiders' dirty punk music that could put a wistful tear in Keith Morris' eye. "When you say you don't know, please tell me, I'll follow you," Barkley shouts over glammy riffs, pounding bass and unrelenting drums in "Rock Together", the EP's Single. The four track 7" is surely not the height of what this band could be - or will be - but this album marks the beginning of an era for Cy Barkley and the Way Outsiders as they expand beyond Nashville's city limits." Jeff The Brotherhood did in fact play Matchless last night (8/22) with their friends/collaborators/city-mates/label-mates Cy Barkley & The Wayoutsiders. It was the first of three NYC dates for Cy. Catch them at Death By Audio TONIGHT (8/23) and Cake Shop tomorrow. Jeff played LPR with Pentagram one night earlier.

JEFF's Jake told the sold-out show's crowd that it would be the last time Jeff would play NYC "for a while" while the band records a new album. More pictures from Matchless, including some shots of a few partying Titus Andronicus-ians, are below...

JEFF the Brotherhood @ LPR
Jeff The Brotherhood

Pentagram headlined Le Poisson Rouge on Sunday night (8/21) with Jeff The Brotherhood, Valient Thorr and local addition ELKS, just a few days after playing dates on the West Coast as part of Power Of The Riff (check out the LA and San Fran pics). The LPR show is part of a string of dates that continue on 8/26 in Pittsburgh at Mr Small's before concluding at Sonar in Baltimore on 8/27. Pictures from the NYC show are in this post.

The day after LPR (last night, 8/22), Jeff The Brotherhood hit Matchless to play with Cy Barkley as part of his three show NYC tour that hits Death By Audio TONIGHT (8/23) and Cake Shop tomorrow. According to Rebecca Seung,

Cy Barkley is the man to know in Nashville, TN. Fronting both Cy Barkley and the Way Outsiders and the hardcore punk band Slammers with Jamin Orrall from Jeff the Brotherhood, Mimi Galbriez from Heavy Cream, and Josh Shearon from Cannomen and Cy's current band the Way Outsiders, he's like the Kevin Bacon of the underground scene in Nashville--it probably only takes three moves to get to him. But then, it is a small town and a smaller scene, so it probably only takes six moves at most to get to anyone. Cy also lives with Nashville's Dead founder Ben Todd and throws a few shows a month attheir south side space Glenn Danzig's House, recently hosting touring acts like Personal and the Pizzas, in addition to frequenting local favorites like Useless Eaters, Natural Child, and D. Watusi.
Personal and the Pizzas arrive in NYC Friday.

ELKS are prearing to release their debut LP Destined for the Sun via Tee Pee on September 13th. Look for a new track to stream on BrooklynVegan in the coming days.

More pictures from LPR are below.

Cy Barkley

Cy Barkley & the Way Outsiders kick off a trio of NYC dates, their first ever, TONIGHT (8/22) at Matchless with "Bogus Bros" and DJ Thanksgiving Brown. But who are Bogus Bros... could it be that Bogus Bros are actually Jeff The Brotherhood? According to a post by Cy Barkley and hint by Jeff The Brotherhood, all signs point to yes. Jeff The Brotherhood played LPR with Pentagram last night, pictures are on the way.

If you can't make it to Matchless tonight, you have two more chances to catch Cy Barkley this week. Look for them at Death By Audio tomorrow (8/23) with Shingles, Enthusiasts, and Hunters ($7 gets you in, all ages) and Cake Shop on Wednesday (8/24) with Foster Care and Dry Feet ($7, 21+).

Cy Barkley & The Wayoutsiders released "Rock Together"/"Econoline" 7" via Jeff's imprint Infinity Cat earlier this year. Check out an amazing video for Rock Together below alongside all tour dates.

Jeff the Brotherhood

BV photographer Paul Birman happened to be in Nashville last week (10/13 to be exact) on the same day JEFF the Brotherhood were playing a hometown show at "Glenn Danzig's House" which is literally someone's house, though it doesn't actually belong to Glenn. The bill also included Grooms. The pictures in this post are from that show (and they're continued below)

JEFF the Brotherhood's new album Heavy Days was released the same day on vinyl and as a digital download. Their brand new video (a BV premiere) for the song, "U Got The Look", is below.

Tonight (10/21) JEFF kick-off a NYC-area CMJ run of shows in New Brunswick, NJ. Tomorrow (10/22) they play their first NYC gig at the free BrooklynVegan day party at Pianos. After CMJ they take a short break before heading out on the road with Shonen Knife. They're also back in December to open for Ted Leo at Bowery Ballroom. All dates and more pictures from Nashville, and that new video, below...
