Chain of Strength at Acheron in 2012 (more by Fred Pessaro)
Chain of Strength

Hardcore vets Chain of Strength, who were briefly around from 1988 to 1991, reunited in 2012 for Revolution 25 (pics) at Irving Plaza and a much smaller Brooklyn show at Acheron (pics). They've since played LA in 2013 and it turns out the reunion isn't over yet, as they'll be going on a short Northeast tour in June with Turnstile, Strife, Mindset and Praise which brings them back to Brooklyn's Acheron on June 15. Tickets for that show go on sale via Ticketfly on May 8. All dates are listed below.

The brief tour is leading up to their appearance at Canada's Amnesia Rockfest (6/20-21) with blink-182, Motley Crue, Weezer, Alice In Chains, Megadeth, Primus, Danzig with Doyle, Mastodon, Cock Sparrer, Black Flag, Fear, Dead Kennedys, Misfits, Joan Jett, Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, Meshuggah, Henry Rollins, Rocket from the Crypt, Judge, Strife, Glassjaw, Dying Fetus, Cannibal Corpse, Title Fight and many more. Tickets for that fest are on sale now.

Full Amnesia Rockfest lineup, with the list of Chain of Strength dates, a video of their 2012 Acheron show and the tour flyer, below...

Halloween Cat

We were just talking about holiday shows in NYC in celebration of Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas, but before we get there, there's a ton of stuff to do for Halloween as well.

Like they've done in the past, Cypress Hill will play a show around then at Best Buy Theater on October 30 with Method Man collaborator Redman. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Zappa Plays Zappa (aka the band led by Frank Zappa's son Dweezil performing his father's music) are playing a Halloween eve show at Gramercy Theatre (10/30) and then on Halloween they play Beacon Theatre (10/31). Tickets for those shows are on sale now.

As discussed, Crystal Stilts, who just opened for Deerhunter, are playing a Halloween show at Bowery Ballroom. Since we last spoke, it's been announced that the show will be opened by Excepter and Zachary Cale. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

The band that currently tours as The Misfits are celebrating in NYC the night before Halloween at BB King's (10/30) with The Attack (tickets), then after Halloween (aka the Day of the Dead), they play NJ's Starland Ballroom (11/1) (tickets).

Meanwhile, original Misfits vocalist Glenn Danzig and his former bandmate Doyle are going on a tour together that hits NYC on October 18 at Roseland Ballroom. Tickets for that show are still available.

Another punk option on Halloween is Cali vets The Dickies' previously discussed show at Knitting Factory (10/31). Tickets for that show are still available.

World/Inferno Friendship Society play their annual Hallowmas show at Warsaw on Halloween. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Former lead singer of Paul Revere & The Raiders, Mark Lindsay is playing on Halloween at Bowery Electric with The Doughboys, St. Philips Escalator, The Connection and DJ Tony Lo-Fi. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

For something dancier, Gatekeeper, Mirror Mirror, DJ Bruno (Light Asylum), and DJ Nick (CHERYL) will take over Brooklyn Masonic Temple on Halloween. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Another similar option is catching DFA's Juan Maclean DJing Cameo on Halloween with Justin Strauss and Evan Michael. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

The Cameo show starts at 10 and Juan Maclean is doing a 3 hour set, so you can probably get there after seeing his DFA labelmates Holy Ghost! play Terminal 5 with Midnight Magic. Tickets for that show are still available.

Before Glasslands hosts the Peelander-Z show on Halloween, they'll "dress up" as The Black Lodge for a Twin Peaks party on October 25, the Friday before. Tickets for that party are on sale now.

Jammy Halloween options include the Phil Lesh & Friends show at Capitol Theatre, which kicks off their 9-show NYC-area run, and Phish in Atlantic City, which kicks off their 3-night run in AC.

And what's Halloween without a few cover shows? On October 30 at 285 Kent, local indie bands will take on rock bands of the past with Butter the Children as Pixies, Dead Stars as Nirvana, Le Rug as At The Drive-In, Turnip King as The Velvet Underground, and Honduras as Green Day. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

The Stone hosts a much different kind with Eugene Chadbourne as Jimmy Carl Black, Evan Gallagher as Thelonious Monk, Thomas Heberer as Muggsy Spanier, Tatsuya Nakatani as Johnny Cash, Louie Pearlman as Cab Calloway, Barry Mitterhof as Jethro Burns, and special surprise guests. That goes down on Halloween at 8 PM and again at 10.

Cake Shop also has a cover show on Halloween too but the lineup is TBA. UPDATE: The lineup includes Vulture Shit as Dookie Shit, Big Ups as Breaking Brad, Flagland as Weezer, All Nines as Buckingham Buckingham Buckingham, Low Fat Getting High as Nirvana, Butter the Children as Pixies, and Palehound as Pavement.

Other Halloween options include the Masquerade Ball with a "world-renowned live DJ performance" at Highline Ballroom, the Bluegrass Halloween celebration at The Bell House on November 1 (tickets), and Dionne Werewolf (aka the werewolf ensemble that does Dionne Warwick covers) at Union Hall (10/31) (tickets).

Other previously discussed Halloween options include The Body at Saint Vitus and Yamantaka // Sonic Titan and Jenny Hval at Basilica Hudson.

UPDATES:

* Vatican Shadow, Raime and others are playing Output (10/31).

* AVAN LAVA, Light Asylum and Zebra Katz are playing MHOW (10/31).

* Believer/Law are playing Nothing Changes (10/30).

* Sankeys opens in NYC.

* Liturgy and composer Alan Howarth play 285 Kent (10/31).

* Silent Barn is also doing a cover show with Celestial Shore and Delicate Steve as Led Zeppelin, Whoarfrost as Nirvana, Cloud Becomes Your Hand doing Jock Jams, and You as Interpol. Twn Sister is DJing. Admission is $10 with a costume or $12 without.

Browse our show calendar for even more events happening on 10/31 (and every day)

And don't forget, the Halloween Parade is coming back but needs your help UPDATE: goal met!

Action Bronson at MHOW in August (more by Ryan Muir)
Action Bronson

As mentioned, Action Bronson is on tour with Cypress Hill and was supposed to hit NYC on November 28 at Best Buy Theater (rescheduled from 10/30). However, Action Bronson dropped off that show and was replaced by STS. For those still interested in attending, tickets are still available.

Action Bronson will continue to do a ton of touring until the end of this year and into 2013, and if you were planning on seeing him at the Cypress Hill show, you'll have another chance to catch the rapper in NYC on December 26 at Brooklyn Bowl. Tickets for that show go on sale today (11/21) at noon.

Action Bronson just released his Alchemist-produced album, Rare Chandeliers, which you can download for free. Updated dates are listed below.

Action Bronson

Action Bronson has released his new mixtape Rare Chandeliers, a collaborative effort between him and The Alchemist, for download for free via Noisey. Download your copy above.

As mentioned, the MC will bless Best Buy on November 28th with Cypress Hill, part of a tour rescheduled in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Tickets are still available. I'm guessing Action Bronson's new vaporizer will be put to good use that night.

Action Bronson - Rare Chandeliers
Rare Chandeliers

Action Bronson was supposed to play Best Buy Theater last week (10/30) with Cypress Hill, but as mentioned, that show was postponed due to Hurricane Sandy. The new date for that show has been set and will happen on November 28 at Best Buy Theater. Tickets are still available if you don't already have one.

When we discussed that show being postponed, we also mentioned that Action Bronson was going to play a free show which was set to happen today (11/7) with Harry Fraud & friends and DJ Getlive! at Public Assembly. That show was also just rescheduled and will instead also happen on November 28 at Public Assembly, but probably due to the Cypress Hill show, Action Bronson is no longer listed on the event page or the show flyer. RSVP is still open and the flyer is below.

In related news, Action Bronson will release a free album titled Rare Chandeliers on November 15. The album was produced entirely by The Alchemist, whose album, Russian Roulette, Bronson appeared on. That album will feature the track "The Symbol," which you can watch the video for with the full album tracklist below. That's the fancy cover art above.

Video, cover art, tracklist, show flyer, and a list of all dates below...

Cypress Hill

Scion is hosting a free-with-RSVP "Open Mic" show at Public Assembly on Wednesday, 11/7 with DJ Getlive!, Action Bronson, and Harry Fraud. Harry Fraud and friends will be performing the complete Cigarette Boats EP. Unclear if one of those "friends" will be Curren$y who is a crucial piece of that EP and who plays Best Buy Theater with Mimosa two days later.

Speaking of Action Bronson & Best Buy Theater, Hurricane Sandy has another casualty. Cypress Hill, who were scheduled to play there with Bronson on 10/30, report:

Due to complications from Hurricane Sandy, Haunted Hill will be POSTPONED. Hang on to your tickets, as a new date will be announced very shortly.

The in-store meet and greet at Gotham Smoke Shop in Huntington Station, NY on October 30th will also be rescheduled for a later date. More to follow soon.

Updated Cypress Hill dates are listed below...

Action Bronson and a bag of weed at MHOW in August (more by Ryan Muir)
Action Bronson

Remember how we just said that Action Bronson continues to give NYC many chances to see him? Well he's keeping that up. After just playing a show with RL Grime last Friday (9/28), Bronson announced that he'll play a free Scion A/V-presented show in the front room of Public Assembly on October 10 with Jonwayne, Party Supplies, and DJ Getlive. The show is free but RSVP is strictly required. The flier for this show is below. Not very surprisingly, it's also been announced that his Highline Ballroom show (10/30) with Cypress Hill is part of a larger tour the two acts will go on together this fall. All dates are listed below.

Action Bronson associate Meyhem Lauren (who he shared a bill with at MHOW in August) has an upcoming Public Assembly show (10/25) too. His is with Lakutis, Big Baby Ghandi, Spit Gemz, Timeless Truth, Gee Dubs, Eff Yoo, and DJ Uneek. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Tanya Morgan, who was also on that MHOW show, have a show at Public Assembly (10/23) too, two days before the Meyhem Lauren show. That one's a co-headlining show with rapper/producer Oddisee, who Tanya Morgan has played with before, and who released the album, People Hear What They See over the summer (stream it at SPIN). Support on that show comes from The Doppelgangaz, Mr. Mag, and Gotham Green, along with a DJ set by DJ Tara and it's being hosted by Dee Phunk. Tickets are on sale now. It takes place just after CMJ, which Oddisee is scheduled to play, though no shows have been announced yet as of this post. All Oddisee dates are listed below.

That famed MHOW show was rounded out by Flatbush Zombies, who were joined by A$AP Rocky and in turn joined him at his Roseland Ballroom show last week (9/27). Flatbush Zombies don't have a Public Assembly show coming up, but they do have a Noisey: Acid Alumni CMJ show happening at Santos Party House on October 17 with Children of the Night, Haleek Maul, Bodega Bamz (who also joined Rocky at that Roseland show), and The Underachievers (who will be taking part in Flying Lotus' NYC takeover). That show is free with RSVP. The flier is below.

Roc Marciano - Reloaded
Reloaded

In more related news, Action Bronson/Meyhem Lauren associate Roc Marciano will release his new album, Reloaded, on November 13 via Decon. The album was mostly self-produced, but also includes a few tracks produced by The Alchemist (whose album featured Roc, plus Action Bronson, Meyhem Lauren, and many others), plus tracks produced by Q-Tip, Ray West, The Arch Druids, and guest spots from Ka and Knowledge Pirate. That's the cover art above (via HipHopDX), and you can check out tracklist and stream the tracks "76" and "I Shot The King" (from the deluxe edition) below. He's also in the process of shooting a video for "76."

All lists of dates, song streams and more are below.

Action Bronson at Music Hall of Williamsburg in August (more by Ryan Muir)
Action Bronson

In late August, Action Bronson tweeted, "LA is gonna have a new resident soon," presumably implying that the Queens rapper has plans to move out west. We haven't heard anything about it since, but if he is leaving (or did already), he's still giving NYC plenty of chances to see him. On Friday (9/28) he's playing a Bespoke Group-presented and Hyundai-sponsored show in NYC at Chelsea Market (75 9th Ave) with RL Grime. RSVP is open. Doors are at 9 PM for this 21+ show.

Action Bronson, who just played Beauty Ballroom in Austin, will also be the opening at Cypress HIll's annual "Haunted Hill" show, which happens at Best Buy Theater on October 30, the day before Halloween. Tickets for that show are available. Other Halloween options in NYC include Wold Inferno Friendship Society at Warsaw, Smashing Pumpkins at Barclays Center, and The Misfits annual Halloween show at Highline Ballroom.

In other Action Bronson news, he recently dropped a new Party Supplies-produced song called "It's Me," which you can download above, or stream below, along with a list of all dates.

Field Report at BV SXSW 2012 (more by Amanda Hatfield) Field Report

Tonight (7/17) is the first show for new Brooklyn venue Williamsburg Park featuring Counting Crows, We Are Augustines, Field Report, and Kasey Anderson & the Honkies. Tickets for tonight's show are still available. Maybe this isn't the most exciting start for the venue, but there are a lot of cool shows coming up, including Refused with Off! on Wednesday (7/18), a big outdoor edition of Eugene Mirman's "Pretty Good Friends" with "special guests" and OK GO on Thursday (7/19), Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings and Antibalas on August 18 (FREE), Bob Mould playing Sugar's first two albums on September 7 (FREE), David Byrne & St. Vincent on September 29, Animal Collective on October 5 and more. All upcoming Williamsburg Park shows are listed below.

If you're a fan of Field Report (aka former Justin Vernon cohort Chris Porterfield) but would like to see him in a more intimate setting, he's also playing an early show at Mercury Lounge on Saturday (7/21). Tickets are still available and we're also giving away a pair. Details on how to enter are below.

The Cure & fans @ day 1 @ Rock Werchter - 6/28/2012
Rock Werchter Day 1 - 6/28/2012
Rock Werchter Day 1 - 6/28/2012

Flanders is a Festival! That was a new phrase to me prior to last week, and I've learned a lot since then underscoring the truth of it. For the uninitiated - Flanders (which includes Antwerp, Ghent, Brussels and Leuven) is rife with more than 280 music festivals per year. Belgium's Rock Werchter is one of the biggest, with three stages spanning four full days of music. It's been around and growing since 1974, and as it has grown, its line-up has grown with it -- this year's included The Cure, Garbage, Justice, Skrillex, Amon Tobin, and more, and that was just on day one.

I ventured to Belgium to cover Rock Werchter this year, and though exhaustion slightly delayed this report you're reading now, it was a great time, visits to Leuven and Brussels included (beautiful places to hang your hat for a visit). More pictures from the first day of the music festival along with some general shots from around Belgium, and video & the setlist from The Cure's set, below...

Pukkelpop
Rock Werchter

We try to keep tabs on various festivals around the world here on BrooklynVegan, many of which you'll eventually see pictures from. Today we focus on Belgium.

Pukkelpop goes down from August 16 - 18. That festival includes The Stone Roses, Bjork, Bloc Party, The Black Keys, Refused, Wilco, The Hives, The Shins, The Afghan Whigs, Lykke Li, Hot Chip, Feist, Flying Lotus, tUnE-yArDs, Chromatics, Cloud Nothings, The Tallest Man on Earth, Baroness, Ceremony, A-Trak, Rustie, Hudson Mohawke, and more. The full lineup is listed below. Tickets for the festival are on sale now.

Rock Werchter, which falls a bit more on the mainstream side, happens in Belgium even sooner, running from June 28 - July 1. That lineup includes The Cure, Jack White, X, Mastodon, Garbage, The xx, M83, Metric, Amon Tobin, Skrillex, Perfume Genius, Bat For Lashes, Michael Kiwanuka, Alabama Shakes, My Morning Jacket, Regina Spektor, Florence + the Machine, The Vaccines and more. Tickets for the festival are on sale now sold out.

The full lineups for both Pukkelpop and Rock Wercher are listed below.

Lauryn / Erykah

Last year Rock the Bells, the touring hip-hop bonanza, picked up on the voguish festival concept in which an artist performs an old record from beginning to end. It went well, and this year's edition bought in twice as hard. On Saturday on Governors Island, amid other, more ordinary sets, 11 albums were performed in their entirety.

What a gorging! What an obligation! It seemed to weigh on the crowd. It meant that listeners weren't in the here and now, where they might be fratty or selfish or mean spirited. They were deep in the been and gone. They weren't just listening to hits, or to sustained works of art, but to their own pasts. The exercise cooled them out. Saturday's audience was truly racially mixed, with a heavy representation of the 30-to-45 age bracket, grown-up New Yorkers at their casual and courteous best. Many of them high, but still. -[New York Times]

Rock The Bells 2011 took Governors Island by storm on 9/3, and according to reports, ran smoothly and generally on time. There was a barrage of classic LPs (Nas's Illmatic, Mobb Deep's The Infamous, Lauryn Hill's Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu's Baduizm, Black Moon's Enta Da Stage, GZA's Liquid Swords, Cypress Hill's Black Sunday, and others), and performances from some of independent hip hop's great up-and-comers. Though it was clearly elders day, younger crews like Slaughterhouse, Big K.R.I.T., Fashawn, Blu & Exile, Freddie Gibbs, Roc Marciano and others also had the ability to shine on the Paid Dues stage (DOOM, an elder statesman via his days in KMD, was scheduled to play the Paid Dues stage but cancelled his appearance).

In true hip hop fashion, guests abounded. Nas capped the day off with a performance of Illmatic, and he didn't hide the men/women behind the curtain of his first LP; MC Serch, DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Large Professor (of Main Source), Akinyele, Fatal, AZ and many others who either blessed the LP or were instrumental in his come-up all made appearances (yes, they performed the Main Source classic "Live at the BBQ" featuring Nas's first recorded appearance). Pras of The Fugees joined Lauryn Hill for "Ready of Not", Big Noyd joined Mobb Deep for "Give Up the Goods (Just Step)" and other tracks, and Black Moon brought a full band.

More pictures from the whole day, below...

Havoc of Mobb Deep @ the kick-off in LA (more by Graeme Flegenheimer)
Havoc

In addition to initially announced Rock The Bells lineup (Nas playing Illmatic? Mobb Deep on The Infamous detail? wow), the festival has made some interesting additions like Erykah Badu performing all of Baduism (on select dates), Common performing all of Be (on select dates), Killah Priest performing all of Heavy Mental, Slaughterhouse, and DOOM. More lineup details are below.

The NYC show on 9/3 at Governor's Island gets the Erykah Badu appearance, and tickets are on presale, password is "ILLMATIC". General sale begins Saturday, 6/11, at 10:00 AM.

LA and San Francisco are on sale now, and the only other date, Boston, still doesn't even have a venue announced yet.

DOOM of course is not to be confused with the crust band who just played MDF and Chaos in Tejas.

In other Hip Hop festival news, Brooklyn Hip Hop Fest's lineup has expanded too adding MOP (!), Torae, Random Axe (Sean Price + Black Milk + Guilty Simpson), eLZhi, Marley Marl, Roli Rho (5th Platoon), Grand Wizzard Theodore and Twilite Tone. Tickets are on sale for all Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival events, including an after-party at Southpaw on July 16th which proclaims to have "special guests invited including the entire BHF '11 lineup".

Cypress Hill @ House of Blues - Sunset Strip - 5/24/2011
Rock the Bells

RTB

The line-up for the ROCK THE BELLS 2011 FESTIVAL SERIES--presented by Boost Mobile in association with GUERILLA UNION and powered by BlackBerry--will feature an array of seminal and up-and-coming hip-hop artists on three stages. Headliners include Ms. Lauryn Hill, Nas,Erykah Baduand Cypress Hill. See the current line-up below and look for more performers to be announced soon.

This year's festival will head to four major North American markets. Kicking off in the Los Angeles-area on August 20 at the San Manuel Amphitheater, ROCK THE BELLS will then head to San Francisco on August 27 at Shoreline Amphitheatre. The festival moves to the east coast for a show in New York on September 3 at Governor's Island (co-promoted with Bowery Presents, Highline, Mad Dog Presents) before wrapping in [a TBA venue in] Boston on September 10.

ROCK THE BELLS featured a number of headliners performing their most influential albums in their entirety for the first time in the history of hip-hop entertainment last summer. The tradition continues this year with Ms. Lauryn Hill performing her landmark, multi-platinum selling, multi-GRAMMY winning album The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill and Nas performing his breakthrough debut album Illmatic with special guests AZ, Pete Rock and DJ Premier. Nas says about performing Illmatic this summer, "For years people have been asking me to do Illmatic in so many ways, from stage plays to movies to books, but the time wasn't right. Where music is going now, the time is right. This will be my biggest production and it only makes sense to do it on the best rap tour which also happens to be a brand I've built and am a partner in. Can't wait to kill it with my comrades AZ, Premo & Pete Rock!"

Full album sets can also be expected from: Cypress Hill performing their 1993 multi-platinum album Black Sunday, featuring modern rock radio mainstay "Insane In The Membrane"; Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star performing their 1998 self-titled debut album; Raekwon & Ghostface teaming up for critically acclaimed, platinum selling Only Built 4 Cuban Linx and more.

"I am excited that this year's Rock The Bells will continue its rich history and tradition by presenting the best and most ambitious festival programming in Hip Hop," says festival co-founder and Guerilla Union head Chang Weisberg. "The bar has been set high and this year's line-up will certainly stake its claim. With ten of the biggest records in the history of the genre and the freshest new talent bubbling from the underground, this summer's Rock The Bells is another dream come true."

ROCK THE BELLS will feature three main stages this year. The two returning stages are the ROCK THE BELLS STAGE and the PAID DUES STAGE, which will feature independent hip-hop acts that performed at the Paid Dues Festival this past April in San Bernardino and new artists-on-the-rise. Paid Dues Festival creator Murs says, "I am excited that I once again have the privilege of hosting the Paid Dues Stage. We will have the honor of showcasing some of the best talent in independent hip hop as part of the worlds largest and longest running hip hop festival... the Paid Dues stage is gonna be the one to watch this year."

The 36 CHAMBERS STAGE is a new addition to the festival and will primarily feature members of the Wu-Tang Clan as well as artists selected by stage curator and Wu-Tang Clan mainstay RZA. A fourth stage that will also be added to most markets is the GRINDTIME NOW STAGE, which will feature battle-style performances.
The Guerilla Union pre-sale for the ROCK THE BELLS 2011 FESTIVAL SERIES will go from June 3 at 10am PST - 10pm PST. The general on-sale starts on June 4.

The lineup was announced last night at a show at House of Blues in LA. Mobb Deep, Souls of Mischief and Cypress Hill all played and pictures to prove it are in this post. More of them below.

The full lineup is also below...

Murs & 9th Wonder

Some great upcoming hip hop shows in the coming weeks, starting with Murs who is back with producer 9th Wonder for a new album, Murs 9th Wonder Fornever. Check out the first track from the album, "3:16 Part 2" above. Fornever is due on April 13th, and one week later, the "Bad Man" will kick off a US tour in Arizona that has him crashlanding at Highline Ballroom on May 19th. Tickets are on sale.

DJ Hi-Tek has done beats for the entire G-Unit crew, so in that light, I guess it makes sense that the thematically different Hi-Tek project (with Talib Kweli) Reflection Eternal would play the "This is 50" (Cent) event at Nokia Theater. Although for the life of me, I cant figure out why Reflection Eternal would support Lloyd Banks. Ah, nepotism. Tickets for April 29th at Nokia Theater with Banks and Reflection Eternal are on sale.

One day before the "This is 50" event, One Be Lo will step back into his old role as a member of Binary Star for a show at Knitting Factory (4/28) with DJ Abilities, Pigeon John, Donny Goines, and Nyle. Tickets are on sale. One Be Lo is scheduled to drop his new solo album B.A.B.Y. on MYX later this year, which features appearances from Royce Da 5'9, Freeway, Zion I, Phonte, Jean Grae, and more. Check out a track from the upcoming LP above.

Though Before The Casket Drops has, um, dropped, Clipse is still on the road promoting the record, laying down dates in NYC at Highline Ballroom (5/6, tickets) and Baruch College earlier that same day. Ninjasonik is on board to get the party started. Full tour dates are below.

Finally, a few hip hop greats from the 90s are scheduled to play NYC in the coming weeks. Naughty by Nature and Black Sheep will team up for a show at Brooklyn Masonic Temple on 5/21 (tickets still on sale). Cypress Hill could easily play a room much much larger than SOBs, but look for them at the venue on 4/15 (tickets still avail) and the blastmaster KRS-ONE on 4/20 (tickets). Wait... shouldn't those dates be reversed?

Tour dates and some videos are below...

Lollapalooza

"The 2010 Lollapalooza line-up is official: Soundgarden, Green Day, Lady Gaga, Arcade Fire, The Strokes, and Phoenix will headline, joined by Social Distortion, MGMT, Jimmy Cliff, Hot Chip, and The Black Keys. With 130 bands on this year's bill, its sure to be a weekend long feast for the ears.

It's a monumental year for Lollapalooza, filled with homecomings, reunions, and first-times. Soundgarden, 1992 and 1996 Lollapalooza alumni, return to the Lollapalooza stage for their first performance since 1997. Green Day will rock Grant Park sixteen years after their first Lollapalooza appearance. While Lady Gaga will headline the festival only three short years after playing the BMI stage at Lollapalooza 2007.

Arcade Fire returns to Grant Park, having played the reincarnated Lollapalooza in 2005. This is the first Lollapalooza for The Strokes - and also their first show in four years. And making their Lollapalooza debut: Phoenix." - Lollapalooza
After extremely accurate early leaks and then much teasing, Lollapalooza oficially announces this year's lineup. Check it out below...

The Cranberries

It's a two day pre-Halloween smoke fest. Snoop Dogg is at Nokia on October 29th (tickets). Cypress Hill is there one day later (tickets).

Speaking of industrial, Skinny Puppy plays Nokia on November 17th. Tickets are on sale.

And last but not least (I think, maybe), what's in your head, The Cranberries have reunited for a tour, zombie, zombie, and are playing Nokia Theatre on November 18th. Tickets are currently on AmEx presale, and go on general sale at noon today (10/2). Oh, Oh, Oh, all dates below...

Cypress Hill

CYPRESS HILL have slated new GUNS N' ROSES album Chinese Democracy -- before it is even released.
The hip-hop legends' frontman, B REAL, said: "It's Guns N' Roses only in the sense of the name, it's not them."

He moaned the only remaining member of the original band is frontman AXL ROSE -- his least favourite.

But after a 15-year wait for the album, released here on November 24, the record buying public disagree. [The Sun]

Cypress Hill played the Nokia Theater in NYC on Thursday night (Oct 30, 2008). The TV commercial for "Chinese Democracy", free Dr. Pepper info, and more pictures from the Cypress Hill show, below...

Heltah Skeltah

You might have seen that Boot Camp Clik members Black Moon & Smif N Wessun (aka Black Smif N Wessun) are playing the Knitting Factory and performing the classics. Fellow BCC compadres Heltah Skeltah are also playing a show of their own as part of Hot 97's Who's Next Live series (Whaaa? Heltah Skeltah is Who's NEXT? when did Nocturnal come out again?) at SOB's on Sept 3rd, hosted by the mighty Pete Rosenberg. Tickets are on sale. Check it out, and if you've never heard Pete Rosenberg's show on Hot 97 (chances are, you haven't... it's on sundays from 4-9AM), I urge you to do so or subscribe to the podcast (iTunes).

Project X featuring Rhythm X (aka Dr Dooom, aka Big Willie Smith aka Dr Octagon aka Poppa Large aka Kool Keith), Tim "Fuck Compton" Dog, and Marc Live are playing BB Kings on Oct 10th. Tickets are on sale. While I can't say that I am feeling Tim Dog's rhymes (ick) or the fake-me-out Pharrell wannabe on falsetto, Kool Keith live is an interesting prospect. Hopefully we'll get some Cenobites stuff as an encore.
Speaking of Pharrell, NERD will open for Common at Roseland Ballroom on Oct 4th. NERD dropped Seeing Sounds in June. Common's Invicible Summer is due.... this fall?

Probably the most interesting (note: interesting, NOT exciting) of all the upcoming shows, multi-platinum MC The Game scheduled a show with fellow G-Unit ex-patroit Young Buck at Irving Plaza on Aug 26th. Tickets are still available. The Game drops his new album LAX that same day. The Game recently announced that he would replace Mack 10 as a member of Westside Connection. Fellow Westside Connection-ers Ice Cube and W.C. are also playing Irving Plaza on 9/8. Tickets are still available.

We warned you about the Atmosphere shows, now we have two of em scheduled for NYC that went on sale 8/22 at noon: Music Hall of Williamsburg on Oct 13th (here) and at Irving Plaza on Oct 14th (here)

Jedi Mind Tricks are on tour in November. MURS will be around in October.

Lots and lots of old schoolers are also coming through the five boroughs.... the Ruler Slick Rick is back at Europa on Sept 18th (tickets here), Method Man & Redman at Nokia on Oct 17th (on sale here), ganja kings Cypress Hill are at Nokia on Oct 30th (tickets here), and Rob Base (no DJ EZ Rock?) is playing Sept 26th at Southpaw (tickets here).

last night (April 17, 2008) in NYC....

CBGB

CBGB

CBGB

More than a few special guests (and I don't mean the protesters) showed up to the opening party/benefit inside the John Varvatos store (aka CBGB) on the Bowery last night (April 17, 2008). All photos by Randy Haecker, and there's more where they came from at his Flickr.

A lot of these guys were in town to play a different benefit show the night before.
