John Joseph with Vernon Reid at Bowery Electric 11/6/2012
Last night's Rock for Light benefit featured a rotating cast of musicians who all sat in on Bad Brains songs at Bowery Electric. The show, part of a benefit to aid victims of Hurricane Sandy (as well as Amnesty International), featured Bad Brains frontman H.R., as well as John Joseph of Cro-Mags, Living Colour guitarist Vernon Reid, members of Antidote, TV on The Radio, The Mob, Extra Life, and many many more. Watch the entire performance below, right beside the setlist.
Bad Brains have a new album on the way, too, due on November 20.

The four-day festival is scheduled to begin on July 5 and will showcase about 300 rock bands. Concerts will take place at around 30 places, from large stages like Central Park Summerstage and Webster Hall to small clubs like the Trash Bar in Williamsburg and the Living Room on the Lower East Side...A few other confirmed shows as part of the festival have emerged too. Sick of It All will join Vision of Disorder, Cro-Mags, Absolution and Sai Nam for a show at Webster Hall on July 6th. Tickets are on sale.
The festival will also stage a free concert in Central Park with Guided by Voices, the Pains of Being Pure at Heart and Cloud Nothings [on July 7]. A few veteran rockers have agreed to appear: David Johansen, a former member of the New York Dolls, has committed to do a show, as has the Baseball Project, the supergroup formed by Peter Buck of R.E.M. and Steve Wynn of Dream Syndicate. -[NY Times]
D Generation will headline Bowery Electric on July 7th with ROMANS, Brass Knuckle Evangelists and The Bamboo Kids. Tickets are on sale.

Four stages and more. Fun Fun Fun Fest truly is non-stop fun of many varieties. BBG spent most of Friday at the Black Stage (the one Danzig headlined). His pictures, including Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall, Murder City Devils, Russian Circles and the afterparty at Red 7, continue below...
Johnny Thunders would turn 59 Friday (7/15) and his birthday is being celebrated tonight (7/14) at D-Generationer Jesse Malin's LES club Bowery Electric. There will be a number of artists performing including Heartbreaker Walter Lure's The Waldos, Oddball Alison Gordy, Pillbox who are apparently reuniting, and many others that are listed below. There will also reportedly be some special guests including ex-Dead Boy Jeff Magnum (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH JEFF MANGUM OF NEUTRAL MILK HOTEL), Jesse Malin, Andy Shernoff of The Dictators, Lenny Kaye and many others.
Many of those playing appeared on the 2009 "Skykrebs Records"-released "Born To Lose" tribute 3CD Boxed set. That includes Krebs & The Maynard G's, The Waldos and Alison Gordy.
Trouser Press writes of Pillbox:
Before there was a Strokes to make it safe as milk, the snarly glam punk spirit of the Stooges, New York Dolls and Dead Boys lived for a time in the skinnyassed tattooed bodies of Pillbox, a New York quartet which offered a skankier, more menacing and less theatrical alternative to the likeminded and better-known D Generation.Check out the Pillbox video for "Holly" below.
D Generation plays reunion shows in September at bigger venues.
Lenny Kaye, who will supposedly be a special guest at the show tonight, is a longtime member of the Patti Smith Group. Patti Smith plays a free show at Castle Clinton tonight (7/15). Don't forget that, "FREE TICKETS AVAILABLE FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED AT THE GATE STARTING AT 5PM. DOORS OPEN AT 6PM." People are already in line as of 2pm. It would be cool of Patti ended up at the Johnny Thunders party afterwards too.

We previously discussed Phily's Riot Fest East that will feature an appearance from the mighty Descendents and The Suicide Machines who they also play with in NYC. Riot Fest East, an offshoot of the Chicago festival, happens on September 24th.
The Chicago version of the festival, October 5-9, previously announced that Weezer, Social Distortion, Descendents, 7 Seconds, ALL (two different eras!), Helmet, and X (playing Los Angeles) were all on the lineup, but left one big announcement for today...
On Friday October 7, 2011 Danzig will headline Riot Fest and perform a career spanning show featuring sets of Danzig, Samhain and Misfits songs with none other than Doyle joining on guitar the Misfits set. We've waited years for this and we can't wait to see the inside of the Congress Theater turn into a churning sea of humanity.Tickets for both Riot Fest Chicago and Riot Fest East are now on sale, and more band announcements are stil to come(!).
Riot Fest show flyers and some videos is below.
"While groups such as the Strokes and the White Stripes get most of the credit for spearheading the garage rock revival movement of the early 21st century, there were several similarly styled bands of the mid- to late- '90s that preceded the aforementioned acts (with far less commercial success and press), such as D Generation. Formed during 1991 in New York City, the band automatically turned a blind eye towards the burgeoning Seattle movement, as their look and sound was straight out of NYC circa the early '70s, when trashy glam bands like the New York Dolls ruled the scene, and such punk bands as the Ramones and the Dead Boys were about to crash the party. Originally comprised of Jesse Malin (vocals), Richard "The Atomic Elf" Bacchus (guitar), Georgie Seville (guitar), Howie Pyro (bass), and Belvy K (drums), both Seville and aK would exit soon after -- replaced with Danny Sage and Michael Wildwood, respectively." -[allmusic]D Generation (Jessie, Howie, Michael, Danny and Richard) are back and will play Irving Plaza on on 9/17 and the Troubadour in LA on 9/24 (with Prima Donna and Biters). Both shows are on sale (click the links). More shows might be announced.
Though broken up since 1999, D Generation did reunite previously, in 2008 for a 3-song set at the John Varvatos store opening. A video from that, and others, below...
