Cut Copy @ Bowery Ballroom - May 14, 2008 (more by Bao)

Cut Copy kicked this week in dance off to a great start. Their show at Bowery on Wednesday was a world better than the one at the Mercury Lounge in March. The sound was flawless and clear which really showcased what a fine-tuned electronic and pop band Cut Copy is. The band goes the extra step, adding in just the right amount of effects and background vocals to give their songs a very full, complete sound. They played a tremendously energetic set which was reciprocated by an equally enthusiastic crowd. Everyone was getting down in their given inches of personal space at the sold-out show. Out There On the IceTonight (May 16, 2008) and Saturday there is even more live dance music in town. Does It Offend You, Yeah? (who will also be here in a couple of months supporting Bloc Party) stop in at the Highline Ballroom as part of their North American tour. I'm very interested to see how/how well they are able to translate such electronic-sounding tracks with a live band.

Yo Majesty are actually the ones headlining the show (check out a review here if you've never seen them). Soulful rockers the Shalitas, and hip-hop trio Time Machine, support.
Advanced tickets available here, $12 at the door.
After the show at Highline, DIOYY will be deejaying at Webster Hall for the GBH 10 Year Anniversary which boasts a pretty big line-up (see flyer). While the venue choice has left many scratching their heads I'm just hoping such a big room will make for a cooler environment to catch LA Riots and MSTRKRFT whose recent show at Studio B was made considerably less enjoyable due to the stifling heat.
Advanced tickets available here, $20 at the door (or $50 if that's your thing).....
