Single day and 3-day GA tickets and VIP Packages to Dave Matthews Band Caravan at Governors Island will be valid for the corresponding dates at Randall's Island, e.g. Friday tickets will be valid on Friday, Saturday tickets will be valid on Saturday and Sunday tickets will be valid on Sunday. Three-day General Admission tickets will be valid for all three rescheduled dates. Tickets previously used for entry at Governors Island on August 26 will be valid for the new respective Randall's Island dates. Those wishing to exchange their tickets for other days must submit their requests by email prior to Noon ET on September 14, 2011. Gogol Bordello, The Roots, Josh Ritter and The Head and The Heart were among those who didn't get to play the Governors Island fest.

"Ticket holders for Saturday and Sunday are invited to attend the Friday, August 26th event at Governors Island. The Governor of New York has issued a state emergency, therefore the DMB Caravan events on Saturday, August 27th and Sunday, August 28th have been postponed. We will announce the new Caravan Governors Island dates as soon as they have been confirmed. We will continue to post updates to the Caravan website as they are confirmed."

There is of course temptation to be snarky here, but I do feel bad for all involved.

Marnie Stern at Santos Party House (more by Andrew St. Clair)

Marnie Stern and No Joy, who coincidentally shared a bill at one of the BrooklynVegan day parties during CMJ, are heading out on a North American tour together in September. The dates haven't been announced yet but a few of them have been revealed, including September 29 at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Tickets for the NYC show are on sale now.

Marnie and No Joy both have some other upcoming dates this summer too. Though they won't be at the same show, they'll both be in Chicago on July 8, when Marnie Stern hosts a guitar clinic before she opens for the Flaming Lips at Aragon Ballroom. No Joy play the Empty Bottle that night.

Speaking of the Flaming Lips, they played multiple shows last weekend in Atlantic City

"On June 23rd and 24th The Flaming Lips played in Atlantic City - including on the latter night their new arrangement of The Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety with highlights from The Wizard of Oz. The next day they were scheduled to travel seven hours northwest to play in Rochester, New York. That show however - a late addition to The Flaming Lips Peace and Punk Rock Summer Tour - was postponed. Its promoters needed more time, so Wayne flew to his home state Oklahoma - where he is shooting a role in a new movie with Melanie Griffith." [psych explorations]

Doveman, who often plays with both Justin Bond and Martha Wainwright, has four more upcoming salon shows scheduled at Le Poisson Rouge. Last month (after he was joined by Rufus Wainwright and Sean Lennon at the West Village venue) we mentioned that he plays the venue again on June 24. Since then, Lisa Hannigan has been added as an announced guest. Tickets are still on sale. Doveman also plays on July 29 (tickets), September 23 (tickets), and October 28 (tickets), though no guests have been announced for the new shows yet. You can also catch Doveman at a free show at Prospect Park with Junip and The Books on June 17.

Lisa Hannigan is currently on her own tour right now in her home country of Ireland. The LPR show with Doveman is one of a few she'll play in North America later this month around her appearance at Atlantic City's Dave Matthews Band Caravan Fest (not to be confused with the same scary fest that is hitting Governors Island later in the summer with a different lineup). Right before LPR, she plays NYC-area shows at Rockwood Music Hall on June 21 and 22 and Maxwell's on June 23. All three sold out quickly, so hopfully she comes back soon. She also hits Boston on the trip.

Lisa, who first came to fame via playing with Damien Rice, released her debut, Mercury Prize-nominated record Sea Sew in 2008. She's releasing the followup this fall on Dave's ATO Records (who this week released the new record by Dawes). Lisa's new LP is called Passenger, and was "recorded over a week at Brynderwyn Studios in North Wales by Grammy-winning producer Joe Henry (Solomon Burke, Allen Toussaint, Ramblin Jack Elliot) and engineer Ryan Freeland (Ray LaMontagne)."

Like Chicago and Atlantic City, NYC & Washington will get iterations of the traveling festival with the extremely scary name (and headliner)...

"Dave Matthews Band Caravan" will come to New York City's Governors Island on August 26, 27 and 28 and The Gorge Amphitheatre in George, WA on September 2, 3 and 4. The events will feature a diverse lineup of musical talent performing on multiple stages during the day and a full set by headliners Dave Matthews Band each night. See below for ticket information.

In addition to Dave Matthews Band, the lineup for the Governors Island event will include Dispatch, The Roots, Gogol Bordello, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Josh Ritter & the Royal City Band, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, The Head and the Heart, Vieux Farka Touré, David Wax Museum and many more to be announced soon...."

At least the Flaming Lips, who play the NJ version of the fest, aren't on that lineup, because that gives hope that they'll announce their own real NYC show. This is the second big Governors Island Fest to be announced this year. The other is the dance-oriented Governors Ball (Punk Island also returns this year).

Syl Johnson supporting Yo La Tengo @ Maxwell's (more by Andrew St. Clair)

Deep Groove soul singer Syl Johnson will return to the NYC stage to play a headlining date at The Bell House on June 24th. Tickets are on sale. There he'll be supported by The Sweet Divines who are also scheduled to play a show with soul frontman Lee Fields at Southpaw on May 21st. Tickets are on sale for that too, as is the recently-released "My World" instrumentals on vinyl.

Lee's last show was another sold out affair on Friday, April 1st at Music Hall of Williamsburg with Charles Bradley & The Menahan Street Band...

"Bradley left everything he had out on the stage in about 45 minutes and was promptly relieved by headliner Fields, with the Menahan Street Band staying put and subbing for Fields' usual backing group, the Expressions. Looking like a pint-sized Lou Rawls, veteran singer Fields ably continued the retro-exploration into Daptone's dictionary of journeyman soul. As with Bradley, Fields is an older fellow influenced by the torchy, balladic nature of artists like James Brown and Bobby Womack as well as Al Green and the Hi Records crew." [Magnet]

Charles Bradley heads out on tour later this month with instrumental group the Budos Band, who don't have any NYC-area shows scheduled, but who are on the bill of the (gulp) "Dave Matthews Band Caravan" festival taking place in Atlantic City from June 24-26 with The Flaming Lips, Delta Spirit, Dr. Dog and many more.

On a somewhat related note, the funky saxophone great and member of The JB's, Maceo Parker, will play SOB's on May 18th. Tickets are on sale. The show is one of two scheduled for Parker in NYC. He'll also play a FREE show at One Brooklyn Bridge Park on May 12th with DJ Spinna.

The Brooklyn Bridge Park Maceo "Funk Dance Party" is the first in a 3-part series of free 'Celebrate Brooklyn' dance parties at the location. May 19th's "Tropical Dance Party" will feature La Excelencia & Que Bajo?!, and May 26th's "Bhangra Dance Party" will feature Red Baraat & DJ Rekha. They promise "Sweeping views, great lawn, dance lessons, beer garden, bike valet & it's free! Three spring evenings featuring some of the coolest dance bands on the planet, the funkiest DJs under the stars, and the greatest view in the world!"
