Legendary folk singer Joan Baez is about to turn 75 and she'll be celebrating that milestone with a special show in NYC at the Beacon Theatre on January 27. The show will feature a ton of special guests, including Jackson Browne, Indigo Girls, Emmylou Harris, Judy Collins, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Damien Rice, Nano Stern, David Bromberg and still more TBA. The show will also be recorded as a PBS special for the "Great Performances" series. Tickets are currently on Chase presale, go on local presale on Friday (11/20) at 9 AM and on sale to the general public on Saturday (11/21) at noon.
That show will kick off a pretty extensive North American tour for Joan, which will eventually take her back through the NYC area for two NJ shows. The first is in Englewood at the Bergen Performing Arts Center on March 6 (tickets available soon), and then she'll play in Red Bank on March 8 at the Count Basie Theatre (tickets).
All tour dates, along with a video of Joan playing live in Ecuador a few years ago, are listed below...
Ira Kaplan w/ YLT at The Bell House in December (more by PSquared)
There technically weren't any Yo La Tengo Hannukah shows last year, but YLT member Ira Kaplan will be taking part in a Passover show in NYC this year. He's one of many names appearing at the annual Downtown Seder at CIty Winery on April 7, a venue that often hosts Jewish events (like the Klezmer brunch). (The actual Passover actually starts a week later.) Front and rear tables are already sold out, but you can still reserve a middle table.
The lineup is very diverse (and not all music), including famous radio/tv sex therapist Dr. Ruth, folk singer Pete Yarrow (of legendary NYC trio Peter Paul and Mary), former baseball player Art Shamsky (Mets, Reds) who is in the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, singer/songwriter Keren Ann who is Israeli (as are performers David Broza and J.Viewz), Basya Schechter (lead singer of NYC's American Jewish world music band Pharaoh's Daughter), City Winery regular David Bromberg, Jewish-themed comedian Jackie Hoffman, Dan Zanes (of the Del Fuegos) and two members of Yiddish theater, Elmore James (not the blues musician) and Zalmen Mlotek.
In related news, Yo La Tengo will appear on Parks & Rec soon.
Roger Waters at Yankee Stadium, July 2012 (more by Greg Cristman)
Roger Waters has been added to the big "Love for Levon" tribute that goes down next week (10/3) at the Izod Center. The onetime Pink Floyd guitarist/vocalist joins the likes of Gregg Allman, John Mayer, My Morning Jacket, John Prine, Warren Hayes, Garth Hudson, Grace Potter and more in the all-star band that will celebrate the life and music of Levon Helm who lost his battle with cancer back in April. A full list of performers for "Love for Levon" is below.
Tickets are still available and please remember that the whole show is a benefit with net proceeds from the concert helping support "the lasting legacy of Levon Helm by helping his estate keep ownership of his home, barn and studio, and to continue The Midnight Ramble Sessions." We are, however, also giving a pair away. Details on how to enter are below.

"Dear friends, Yes. That was me singing with Levon Helm & Emmylou & so many friends in Central Park. One of those nights you hold onto." - Tift Merritt
Levon Helm, Emmylou Harris and Hayes Carll played Summerstage last night (7/18). Pictures from that show are in this post.
During Levon Helm's set, David Bromberg played on "Tongue" (a Bromberg song that Levon recorded with him) and Emmylou Harris helped perform "Evangeline", and then Harris, Hayes, Bromberg, Joan Osborne, Tift Merritt, Shawn Colvin and others joined the band for a performance of The Band's "The Weight." We don't have pictures of that part, but you can watch a video of it below.
"The Weight", as usual, was the last song in Levon's set. You can check out the full written setlist below though note they actually opened with "Ophelia" and didn't play "Wheels".
