Radiohead @ Roseland Ballroom in 2011 (more by Bao Nguyen)

Coachella which is taking place over the course of two weekends this year (April 13-15 and 20-22) revealed their 2012 lineup. Last week, Azealia Banks was the first artist confirmed, and earlier today they confirmed The Weeknd (maybe he found a band?), and before that, Jimmy Cliff, Breakbot, and Housse De Racket. The reunited Pulp then announced itself. The full lineup also includes headliners The Black Keys, Radiohead, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, not to mention, as predicted, the reunited At the Drive In and the reunited Mazzy Star (!), and Madness and Refused (!) and Jeff Mangum and many, many more that you can see below...

Dawes @ La Zona Rosa in August (more by Tim Griffin)

Dawes, who is playing the WFUV Holiday Show at Beacon Theater tonight (12/5), and who hit Zuccotti Park the other day, and who are playing sold out shows at Maxwell's on Tuesday and Wednesday, are one of the bands taking part in this free show Rolling Stone is doing during business hours on Tuesday (RSVP necessary, but does not guarantee admission). Details on the flyer below...

Josh Ritter at BookPeople in Austin in October (more by Tim Griffin)

Singer/songwriters Josh Ritter, John Wesley Harding (aka Wesley Stace), and Steve Earle are also authors, and all three of them put out novels this year. They'll be teaming up for "a night of talk and songs" at the Celeste Bartos Forum of The New York Public Library on Tuesday (12/6). Tickets for the event are on sale now.
Josh Ritter made a promotional appearance for his novel, which is titled Bright's Passage, in Austin this past October. As you can see above, it was also an event that included some music. Pictures and full recap, including a part where Josh says Wesley was one of his writing inspirations, HERE.
Ritter has also been added to the bill of the previously mentioned WFUV show, which is happening on 12/5 with Dawes, Mavis Staples and The Head And The Heart at Beacon Theater. Tickets are still available.
Dawes played Occupy Wall Street today and according to Rough Trade, they put out the 48th best album of 2011. They also have two more shows at Maxwell's after the Beacon show (12/6 and 12/7), but both are now sold out.
Steve Earle recently announced a residency at City Winery with Allison Moorer taking place from January 9 to February 6. Tickets for all five shows are still on sale.
All dates below...
Dawes & Jackson Browne @ Zuccotti Park today (photo via ATO)

A picture from this afternoon's festivities above. A video from that, and a video of Dawes playing a recent AV Club Holiday Undercover session, below...

Is anything still going on at Zuccotti Park? Regardless, Jackson Browne and Dawes, who have collaborated before (just ask Lefsetz!), will perform for Occupy Wall Street at Zuccotti Park today (12/1) sometime between noon and 1:30pm (I've seen it listed as 12, 12:30 and 1). Oh and Third Eye Blind, who wrote a song for the movement, will be there too! How's it going to be? How's it going to be...
Later tonight the movement will be at Lincoln Center with Philip Glass.
Dawes begin a run of proper NY and NJ shows on 12/3.
More info about Music For Occupy, the above-pictured album that features music by Jackson Browne, Yo La Tengo, Devo, Third Eye Blind, Lucinda Williams, Ladytron, and more, HERE.

Levon Helm at Summerstage in Central Park (more by Chris La Putt)

The Band's Levon Helm will step outside of his weekly Midnight Ramble for a show at Wellmont Theatre on February 10th with Peter Wolf. Tickets are currently on AMEX presale and go on regular sale Friday 11/18 at noon. The show, along with a pair of dates that he has lined up at Ulster Performing Arts Center in Kingston, NY (11/18 and 5/25) are his only non-Midnight Ramble dates announced thus far. Full tour schedule is below.
Meanwhile, the Midnight Ramble continues this weekend with special guest Hook Herrera and on 12/3 Helm will welcome Jimmy Vivino (of Conan's Basic Cable band) and Dawes. Tickets for that show, and all others are still available (either seated or Standing Room Only).
Dawes will also head down to NYC & NJ that same week. Both Maxwell's shows, which Robert Ellis is opening, are now sold out though. You can catch Robert Ellis though during a tour with John Doe that hits City Winery on December 4th. For the X man, it's one of many gigs that will be keeping him busy through New Year's Eve.
All Levon and Dawes and Robert Ellis and X dates and a video below...

Dawes headlined a sold out show at Webster Hall last night (10/27). Both Blitzen Trapper & Smoke Fairies opened the show which was part of a tour that lasts through mid November. Pictures from the NYC show are in this post, Halloween decorations included.
Dawes will return to the area by themselves to play three shows in December. First up is the annual WFUV Holiday Cheer show at Beacon Theater on December 5th with the massive lineup of Dawes, Mavis Staples and The Head And The Heart. That should sell out quick when tickets go on general sale Friday (10/28) at noon. Dawes will spend the next two days at the more intimate Maxwell's in Hoboken. Tickets are on sale now for December 6th and December 7th. Dawes play New Year's Eve in Minneapolis.

The MTK: Music To Know Festival planned for Saturday - Sunday, August 13 - 14, in East Hampton, New York, is cancelled. A statement is as follows:Strangely Escape to NY, the other new Hamptons music festival, is going on as planned as we speak. Patti Smith and Best Coast played it last night."It is with heavy, heavy heart that we regret to inform you that the inaugural MTK: Music To Know Festival in East Hampton will not take place. Despite our unique vision and arranging a world-class line-up, ticket sales were not adequate to allow the event to continue. We wanted to let everyone know now before engaging more deeply.
Along with our ticket holders, vendors, sponsors, business associates, colleagues and friends in the community, we too are filled with deep disappointment. We pledge to endure during this difficult time with the same integrity and professionalism displayed throughout the creation of this event.
Ticket holders should check www.musictoknow.com next week for more information.
The MTK Fest's lineup included Vampire Weekend, Chromeo, Dawes, Bright Eyes, M Ward, Ra Ra Riot, Fitz and the Tantrums, Matt and Kim and more.
Truck America, another NY Festival, was cancelled last week (though no official announcement has been made about that yet).

As mentioned, Music to Know Fest makes its debut in East Hampton, NY over the weekend of August 13-14, and features artists such as Vampire Weekend, Bright Eyes, Matt & Kim, Ra Ra Riot, Dawes, and others. Set times have been announced for the festival, which you can check out below.
MTK, not to be confused with Escape to NY, have also teamed up with MTA Long Island Railroad (LIRR) to add an official westbound train for concertgoers:
The train, departing from the LIRR East Hampton station at 10:56 PM, is aptly timed to ensure concert goers will have sufficient time to enjoy the day's line-up and festivities and will be making all the local stops on Long Island into Brooklyn and Manhattan. For more fun, you can download the official MTK 2011 App for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad at the iTunes app store. The fest also features fashion tents. According to a press release:
The fashion pop-up tents will be set up in a "retail village" and the merchants are anything but your average festival brands. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were first to purchase pop-ups from MTK: Music To Know - planning to debut their much-anticipated website StyleMint and their successful contemporary line Elizabeth & James to the crowd of almost 10,000 people gathered at the event in the Hamptons during the height of the season.Hmmm... Tickets for the festival are still available. Set times and a list of the clothing brands that will be on display at the fest below...

John McCauley, Jonny Corndawg, Matt Vasquez @ BV-SXSW

Jonny Corndawg is releasing his album Down on the Bikini Line on August 30. He'll celebrate the release of the album that same day (8/30) at Union Pool. Other bands TBA. John McCauley of Deer Tick provides guitar on the album. Check out the artwork and stream two tracks below.
The Union Pool show is 4 days after Jonny Corndawg plays The Saint in Asbury Park, NJ (8/26) with Jessica Lea Mayfield. Tickets are on sale now. Jessica Lea Mayfield recently contributed a cover of Nirvana's "Lounge Act" to Newermind. Kinda funny that Deer Tick isn't on that album.
Speaking of Deer Tick, friends, lovers and frequent tourmates Those Darlins are currently on an extensive tour that includes some dates this month with Old 97's. Those Darlins will hit NYC on October 14 at The Bell House. Tickets are on sale now. All dates are listed below.
As mentioned, Middle Brother (featuring John McCauley of Deer Tick) are not done yet and will play a rare set at Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island at the end of the month. It is their only scheduled date though. Delta Spirit (whose singer is also in Middle Brother) also play the SOLD OUT fest. Middle Brother, Dawes, Cordawg & Deer Tick played Bowery Ballroom and Music Hall in April, not long after Middle Brother and Deer Tick (and Corndawg) played a set at the Partisan Records/BV day party in Austin that The Old 97's also played. A belated set of pictures from that free show at Barbarella are in this post. More of them below.
Dawes (whose singer and drummer are also in Middle Brother) are currently touring overseas, but will return next week and head out on tour with Alison Krauss & Union Station (featuring Jerry Douglas). That tour hits Beacon Theater on August 2nd (the show is sold out though tickets are still available for the NJ show happening one day later). All dates are listed below.
Deer Tick also has dates coming up including a free show at Pier 54 (8/11) with DOM. More dates below.
Jo Schornikow of the John McCauley approved Shivers plays on Sunday (7/24) at Death by Audio as part of the "Permanent Wave's SOUND WAVE to Benefit the International Women's Health Coalition" at the all ages venue. Amy Klein of Titus Andronicus, Ian O'Neil of Deer Tick's previous band, is on the bill too.

alternate headline: Vampire Weekend headlining Hamptons Music Fest, go figure
Vampire Weekend @ Coachella 2008 (more by Ryan Muir)

MTK: Music To Know Festival announces its inaugural line up headlined by Vampire Weekend on Saturday, August 13th and Bright Eyes on Sunday, August 14th. Other confirmed bands include Matt & Kim, Cold War Kids, Chromeo, Tame Impala, Ra Ra Riot, Fitz & The Tantrums, Tom Tom Club, Dawes, M Ward, We Are Scientists, The Limousines, Naked and Famous, Francis and the Lights, Suddyn, Nicos Gun and Young Empires -- 18 of today's most critically-acclaimed and successful new, emerging and well-known bands. The music begins at noon each day, ending at 10PM.Cheesy marketing and opinions of the ritzy location and potential crowd aside, I have to say that MTK did a pretty kick-ass job of curating a relevant indie rock lineup for an East Hampton crowd (filled with bands that do a good job of moving tickets, relatively speaking). Tickets are on sale now. Two-day passes start at $195 each+fees+parking if you need it. VIP tix will cost you much more.
According to Co-Founder Chris Jones "The Hamptons are a unique market to say the least -- full of decision makers, trend setters, and taste generators who have always been eager to embrace the best and the brightest in our culture -- whether that is in literature, film, fashion or music. We are excited to bring this collection of artists together in our community, and hope this is the first of many annual events."
Without knowing how willing people are to travel to the Hamptons, how many people are already in the Hamptons, and how many tickets they need to sell (possibly only "9,500 people over both days"), it's hard to guess how successful the fest will be (from a business/longevity point of view) (Bing is a sponsor so that probably helps), but it definitely beat expectations so far (relatively speaking). More details below...

According to "Music to Know"'s website, there will be "18 bands, dozens of chefs, wines, beer, retail and lifestyle brands, a premium weekend festival presenting the hottest music, fashion, lifestyle, chefs, and wines and beers to know." It also says "website under construction. stay tuned." I can't wait to know the full lineup of the August 13-15 East Hampton fest which...
"...had been planned for Amagansett, received approval for the East Hampton Airport property usage on Thursday, though they have one more hurdle to cross: an okay from the Federal Aviation Administration....says the East Hampton Patch who also reveals that Dawes are confirmed on the bill so far.Sag Harbor residents Collage and Chris Jones, owner of the Sole East, has permission for bands and a DJ to play between noon and 10 p.m. The permit is for a total of 9,500 people over both days..."
MTK is not to be confused with the just-announced August 5-7 Southampton fest called Escape to New York.

Jonny Corndawg, Matthew Vasquez, Taylor Goldsmith

"There's a singer-songwriter intimacy in many of the songs on Middle Brother, as though band members John McCauley, Taylor Goldsmith and Matthew Vasquez were sharing secrets and anecdotes and decided to set them to music. All three men belong to bands -- Deer Tick, Dawes and Delta Spirit -- that trade on folk, blues and country traditions; even their up-tempo songs are less rave-up rockers than hand-clapping foot-stompers." [NPR]That blurb comes from a March 28th (yesterday) NPR feature on Middle Brother that you can listen to at NPR's site. On April 3rd Middle Brother kick off a west coast tour, but earlier this month they toured through NYC on their way to SXSW, and while they were here they played epic shows at both Music Hall of Williamsburg and Bowery Ballroom with opening collaborative sets by Deer Tick, Dawes, Jonny Corndawg and Matthew Vasquez. The MHOW show ended with everyone back out on stage during the encore, along with special guest Phosphorescent for the final jam of the night.
Since then I saw Middle Brother again at SXSW, where, like in NYC, the country-stylish Jonny Corndawg (as seen in today's NY Post) almost stole the show. The Austin show I saw was the BrooklynVegan Day Party at Barbarella, but they also played an official showcase at Auditorium Shores which is streaming at NPR.
I just realized that not only haven't I posted the SXSW pictures yet, I never even post the NY ones, so here is the set from Bowery Ballroom and it continues below...

Deervana by Ryan Barkan

I'll always be a Nirvana fan and I'm currently a huge Deer Tick fan (obviously), but I had low expectations for this Saturday night "cover band" show at Lustre Pearl. There was so much going on in Austin, I had already seen Deer Tick on Friday at the BV day party, and Sunday was the only day I didn't have to be up in the morning, but I followed friends who I would have rather been with than anywhere else anyway, and I'm so happy I did. It ends up Deer Tick does an amazing Nirvana, and the capacity crowd at Lustre Pearl did a great job dancing, crowd surfing and singing along. Someone next to me kept repeating that it was the best thing they saw all week. It definitely felt that way at the moment.
The bill for the night also included Holy Sons (who I was psyched to catch a whole set by after missing most of it at the BV day party Friday), Robert Ellis (an up and coming country singer who I was happy to check out for the first time) and Dawes (who always put on a great show). I knew Deervana would also be done by 2am so that meant I could still jet to either Odd Future at the Vice party or Kanye West at the Vevo party to really end SXSW week with a bang (I ended up opting for my bed instead).
Deervana, who previously played a show in Rhode Island and will be back again at Brooklyn Bowl on June 19th (part of the Northside Festival), ended their smashing set by smashing their instruments, though if you look closely at the pictures and videos, you'll see they weren't actually the guitars they were playing. More, including a shot of the setlist, below...

Middle Brother over Corndawg (more by Tim Griffin)

As the "Middle Brother" release date of March 1st approaches, the band have released the title-track from their self-titled debut album. Grab the MP3 for the first time above, or listen to the song in the band's new iPhone app. Pre-order the album via Partisan Records.
Middle Brother (the band) is comprised of the unmistakable three voices of Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, John McCauley of Deer Tick, and Matthew Vasquez of Delta Spirit, but in "Middle Brother" (the song) you'll also recognize the voice of Jonny Corndawg who also helped them write the tune.
Middle Brother kick off their first-ever tour on March 2nd in Washington DC. That's the tour that will include FULL SETS by Middle Brother AND Deer Tick AND Dawes on almost all March dates including on March 5th at Music Hall of Williamsburg and March 6th at Bowery Ballroom. Tickets to both of those shows are still on sale.
Jonny Corndawg (pictured above) will be on the tour and performing at all Middle Brother shows, though he'll only be playing full opening sets at the newly-added April California shows (list below). After California, Corndawg heads back to NYC in time to finish off another Brooklyn residency - last time it was at Union Pool, this time it's at Brooklyn Bowl (April 4, 11, 18 & 25).
Middle Brother's March run ends at SXSW in March. There the band play the previously-mentioned Ground Control Touring showcase at Auditorium Shores on March 19th, and they will play a BrooklynVegan day party one day earlier - March 18th & Swan Dive/Barabarella. BrooklynVegan (we) have teamed up with Partisan Records and Knitting Factory for a free, afternoon, 3-stage event. It will be Middle Brother's only day party, and Deer Tick are on the bill too. The rest of the lineup and more details TBA. Stay tuned.

Middle Brother

As you mostly already know, Middle Brother is a group consisting of the frontmen from Deer Tick, Delta Spirit and Dawes (and the drummer from Dawes). Jonny Corndawg, who has upcoming dates with Deer Tick and Dawes, also contributed to the new Middle Brother album. Middle Brother is going on a tour with Dawes and Deer Tick in March. That tour includes shows at Bowery Ballroom, MHOW and SXSW. Now all dates have been announced (and listed below), and tickets for the NYC (and other) shows go on sale at noon.
Jonny Corndawg, who has just one week left in his Union Pool residency, is running the Surf City USA Marathon in California soon after he gets done touring with Dawes (on Superbowl Sunday to be exact). At the risk of it seeming like a conflict of interest, I took Jonny up on an his offer to be one of his race sponsors. The money he raised from BrooklynVegan and six other sponsors helped him do what he needed to do... including making an outfit with all the sponsor logos on it which is the coolest part. I can't wait to see the picture from the race (hopefully with him holding a trophy). In the meantime we have the picture of Jonny sporting sweet blue shorts, which is with all tour dates, below...

As previously mentioned, Middle Brother is the alt-country supergroup consisting of Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, John McCauley of Deer Tick, and Matthew Vasquez of Delta Spirit (each the frontman of their respective bands). As also mentioned, that group is releasing a self-titled album on March 1st. And now the first tour dates in support of that album have appeared.
Middle Brother AND Deer Tick AND Dawes (but not Delta Spirit even though Matt will be there as a member of Middle Brother) will each play a set at Music Hall of Williamsburg on March 5th, Bowery Ballroom on March 6th, and Theatre of Living Arts in Philly on March 9th. All three shows go on sale Friday at noon (worth noting: Deer Tick, Dawes and Delta Spirit have all headlined their own shows at Webster Hall already).
Middle Brother will also play the Ground Control Touring SXSW showcase at Auditorium Shores in Austin on Saturday, March 19th with Bright Eyes, the Felice Brothers and Man Man. Stay tuned for more dates.
MEANWHILE, catch John McCauley on his solo tour with The Shivers that kicks off January 14th in Boston, and catch Middle Brother contributor Jonny Corndawg at one of his upcoming shows too. Some of those Corndawg dates are with Dawes this month. All Dawes dates and some videos below...

Jonny Corndawg at a 2010 BV-CMJ Day Party (more by Chris Gersbeck)

Jonny Corndawg will kick off a Brooklyn residency at Union Pool tonight (1/4). Fellow Deer Tick collaborators Liz Isenberg and Bed Pigs open the show. Bed Pigs = Deer Tick's ex-guitar player Andy T (the guitar player before Ian from Titus Andronicus took over). Corndawg will also play the venue on the next two Tuesdays, bringing Pepi Ginsberg & Alana Amram on for support on 1/11, and Buffalo Stance & The Extraordinaires (who used to be Jonny's backing band) for Jan 18th. Each show will cost you $8 at the door (and free blue Mountain Dew to the first 10 paying customers in the door).
Jonny Corndawg celebrated the new year by posting a new track to his Bancdcamp page. The song "Down on The Bikini Line" is streaming below, but you can get a downloadable copy for the price of an email address.
Jonny Corndawg can also be found on the debut album by Middle Brother. You might remember them as MG&V...
"Middle Brother to release debut album in March.Jonny Corndawg also played with MG&V aka Middle Brother at that SXSW show, or to be more specific, he performed "Middle Brother" with the band. It's a song he helped write which now shares a name with both the full album and the band. It's track #4 on the new album and you'll need to wait a while to hear it, but track #8, "Me Me Me", can be downloaded now for free above. Pre-order the album at Partisan. Check out the full tracklist below.Partisan Records is excited to announce that Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, John McCauley of Deer Tick, and Matthew Vasquez of Delta Spirit have joined forces to make a very special record. The self-titled debut, recorded in January 2010 in Nashville, will be released on March 1, 2011.
Middle Brother played their first show at 2010's SXSW - a tiny, late-night, unannounced event under the moniker "MG&V." Other than recording the album and rehearsing once, they had never played the songs live. The audience (and the mob of onlookers crammed in the doorways and windows) was treated to an impossible-to-forget set by a band of musical comrades who seemed genuinely surprised by the fire that was ignited on stage. It was a rollicking and boisterous show that could have fallen apart at any moment and instead centrifuged into melodic and harmonic brilliance. What held it together was each member's sense of song and performance - a perfect, intuitive balance of craft and feel, equal parts playful and earnest."
Middle Brother played their first show as "Middle Brother" on December 20th at The Troubadour in Hollywood. It was a holiday benefit with Cass McCombs, Mountain Man and Deer Tick also on the bill. They have no upcoming shows scheduled, but some will surely appear as the album release date gets closer.
Besides the Brooklyn shows, Corndawg will also hit York, PA before heading out to the West Coast for a string of dates. John and Ian from Deer Tick kick off their own solo tour later this month. Corndawg's full tour schedule, song stream and stuff, below...

Dawes @ Webster Hall

Dawes are on a headlining tour in support of their well received debut North Hills. Vetiver and Peter Wolf Crier are currently both opening that tour, and both opened for the band in NYC at Webster Hall on Friday (11/12. Pictures from that show adorn this post.
If Dawes wasn't still on tour, I might expect frontman Taylor Goldsmith (the G in MG&V) to stop by the sold out Deer Tick show at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn tonight. If you're not sure which one Taylor is in these Webster Hall pictures, just look for the person wearing the leather guitar strap that reads "Goldsmith" which was designed by my favorite non-vegan master leather worker and musician Jonny Corndawg, who is not opening for Deer Tick tonight (Jason Anderson strangely is though), but who just released a split 7" with the band...
"Since the inception of Partisan Records, the label has had the intention of creating a 7" series to showcase new and talented musicians. These may be artists who are beginning on the road to a long and fruitful career or artists who have remained on the radar but have never had the opportunity to have their music showcased to larger audiences in a physical format.Look for one at the merch table at Music Hall tonight, or at one of the other upcoming Tick shows (dates listed below). Grab one of the Corndawg songs now, above. With that in mind, the label is pleased to announce the Partisan Records Co. 7" series. These will be vinyl-only releases on high quality vinyl which will be a showcase of new songs from these bands, or doing a split with current artists on the Partisan Records roster.
Officially, this is the second release in the series, with Deer Tick sharing the wax with long time tour companion Jonny Corndawg. A limited pressing of 1000, on two color variations of white and sky blue at 500 per color.
Deer Tick offers the fan-favorite ZZ Top cover "Cheap Sunglasses" while Corndawg gives fans a taste of his upcoming studio album with "Chevy Beretta" and "Nightrider". These will only be available on the bands respective tours and in the Partisan webstore.
And speaking of Partisan Records, Deer Tick isn't their only artist playing in NYC tonight and tomorrow. Mountain Man opens for Jonsi at Hammerstein Ballroom tonight, and Partisan's latest signing (it was announced like today), Warm Ghost plays tomorrow/Thursday (11/11) at Glasslands with Grandchildren and a DJ set by The Antlers (Valleys and Foxes In Fiction were both also on the Glasslands bill, but had to cancel).

"An estimated 200,000 people journeyed the grounds of Zilker Park this weekend for the Austin City Limits Music Festival.Friday pictures HERE. Lucero HERE. The xx HERE. Mayer Hawthorne HERE, the rest of the Saturday HERE, Flaming Lips HERE, and the rest of the pictures from Sunday (and the conclusion of our 2010 Austin City Limits coverage), below...The descent of the iconic guitar sign Monday signified the end of an incredibly successful ACL Music Festival, and with eight stages and 130 bands, clean up is expected to take the rest of the week.
"This year's ACL was one of the best. The weather was incredible," City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department spokesperson Victor Ovalle said.
The show's producer, C3 Presents, takes care of cleaning up Zilker Park, and the city sends crews into the surrounding neighborhoods to remove any trace of music fans who know how to have a good time.
After C3 Presents leaves the park later this week, fertilizing and watering the grass will city's number one priority." [News 8 Austin]
Dawes @ Lollapalooza 2010 (more by Josh Darr)

"So it was back to the Sony Bloggie stage to catch a pair of Americana/roots-rock acts, Dawes and Deer Tick, a pair of bands I knew nothing about and, hell, that's what Lolla's about, right? Discovering new acts you might not have otherwise ever had to the chance to see. I knew nothing about either band but found both enjoyable and great compliments to the mid-afternoon sun and shade mix of the stage. Dawes had an amiably country-fried sound that fits somewhere between two other bands at the fest: they're rootsier than Blitzen Trapper while easing up on the honky-tonk of the Drive By Truckers. And if I'm not being clear enough, I mean that in a good way. Deer Tick followed with their own brand of roots/soul, lead singer John J. McCauley crooning "I can't hang around with you like this my friend/ Our time has come to an end" on "Baltimore Blues No. 1" and his gravelly voice lent an edge to recent single "20 Miles." Both bands provided a great respite from the larger crowds without slowing the momentum of the day. There was no lag in energy and I barreled on." [Chicagoist @ Lollpalooza 2010]Peter Wolf Crier, who has already played Bowery Ballroom and Music Hall of Williamsburg, now has two shows coming up at Webster Hall. The catch? They are/were the opener at all of them. On September 29th PWC will open the show for Rogue Wave and Midlake. On November 5th, PWC will open the show for Dawes and Vetiver. That November Webster Hall show is part of a new set of headlining dates for Dawes. Tickets for the NYC show go on AmEx presale at noon, and general sale Friday at noon.
PWC, after touring with Midlake and Rogue Wave, opens most of the new Dawes dates before being replaced by The Moondoggies whose new album "Tidelands" will be released by Hardly Art/Sub Pop on October 12th...
The album's title was chosen by Moondoggies songwriter/frontman Kevin Murphy (vocals, guitar) as a nod to his old stomping grounds in Ketchikan, AK where he used to go to escape from civilization. Listening to the songs, the subtle, recurring themes of water throughout the album underscore that the songs are crafted to provide solace, sense and cause for celebration in a world fraught with turmoil. All dates also have a third opener, and those duties are split by The Romany Rye (who recently played Bowery Ballroom and MHOW with Delta Spirit) and Vetiver. All dates below...
"What the water represents can be taken many different ways," says Murphy. "Many of the lyrics came to me while trying to be constructive in how I dealt with feeling depressed, rather than just getting wrapped up in my own head."
