Atlanta's Dead in the Dirt represent grindcore and vegan straightedge on their new LP, The Blind Hole, streaming in full below. The release, which hits the public tomorrow (August 6), will be released in vinyl and CD formats by the venerable Southern Lord. Invisible Oranges posted a review:
The Blind Hole, Dead in the Dirt's new record, is certainly chaotic. Any qualms one might have about their politics will melt in the face of its onslaught, which is not so much in delivering ethical lessons as it is in cramming steel wool into your ears. While there's no NYC show on their current horizon, Death in the Dirt do have upcoming dates and those are listed, along with the stream of The Blind Hole, below.

Hoax at Power of the Riff East, 2012 (more by Greg Cristman)
The brutal punk assault of Massachusetts's Hoax gets a video treatment for "Fantasy," which appeared on their recent 7" via Painkiller Records. Just as anti-social as the band itself, check out the fetish-laden video below. Not for the squeamish.
In other Power of the Riff news, look for the latest installment to go down on 12/20/12 in Los Angeles at Henry Fonda Theater. There the band will be joined by High on Fire (who play NYC twice this month), sunn o))), Corrosion of Conformity, Black Breath, Dead in the Dirt, Loincloth and Void ov Voices. Tickets are still available for this whopper of a show.
Check out that Hoax video below.

In the wake of the sell-out of A389 2013 in Baltimore, the label has expanded the two-day fest into a full extended weekend! A389 Anniversary will kickoff with a pre-fest show at Ottobar on 1/17/13 featuring Integrity, Withdrawal, Vilipend and Dead Gods , then come to a close with a Sunday matinee on 1/20/13 at Charm City Art Space with Left for Dead, Iron Reagan, God's America and Eddie Brock.
In addition to the previously discussed Friday/Saturday shows at Ottobar, Saturday (1/19) will now feature a matinee at Sidebar with Despise You, Gehenna, Dead in The Dirt, Ancient Shores and WarXGames AND an afterparty with Nothing (who recently toured). None of the newly announced shows will have advanced ticketing; you can only buy them at the door. Full show details are below.
Catharsis has only one show during A389 festival, so what does that mean? Could a tour be in the works?
In other A389 news, the label will release Devoid of Everything, which collects Left for Dead's entire 1996-97 studio output remixed from the original 1/4" multi-track reels. Check out the art above and you can stream a track below. Left for Dead members went on to play in bands like Cursed, Haymaker, Pick Your Side, Burning Love, and many many more. This rare one-time reunion (I was assured!) is not to be missed. Check out some thoughts on the reunion via Chris Colohan here.
If you're wondering who Iron Reagan is, the band is prepping to release their 20-track debut Worse Than Dead via A389 in 2013. The band features half of Municipal Waste and members of Darkest Hour and you can stream their demo below alongside details of the A389 festivities.

Trash Talk @ Scoot Inn, Austin, TX
The BrooklynVegan/Power of The Riff day show took over two stages at Scoot Inn on 3/16, and one day of the multi-day Converse/Thrasher Deathmatch at the venue. With a ticket price tag of free and a stacked lineup that included High On Fire, Trash Talk, Off!, Ceremony, Deafheaven, Black Cobra, Full of Hell, Dead In The Dirt, Code Orange Kids, Heartless, and Balaclava, its understandable that there was a line around the block for most of the amazing day.
We already posted one set of photos from the show at BV Austin, including shots of Heartless, Ceremony, Balaclava, Full of Hell, and Code Orange Kids. Here are some pictures & video of High on Fire, and Off!, and more of Balaclava, Trash Talk, and Ceremony. Photos of Dead In The Dirt, Deafheaven, Black Cobra, and others are on the way. As the day show comes to a close, we'll get ready for our night show at the same venue... amounting to a total of FOURTEEN HOURS of destruction! Not to mention the food trucks, a full bar, and so much more to keep you fed and hydrated (or buzzed, depending on your poison) during the onslaught.
Stay tuned to BrooklynVegan for details regarding the official night showcase (it has been announced), and for more about the day show (or our OTHER day show on Saturday at Lovejoys), including set times. In the meantime, head below for video of some of the bands playing our MEGA-show at Scoot Inn on March 16th!
Dead In The Dirt played Acheron on Sunday night (9/18), part of their larger tour in support of Fear. Not just the kind that makes you run from diving bodies off of the stage, but also their limited-to-1500 Southern Lord debut 7" of the same name due on September 27th and streaming below now. The Atlanta crew's brand of intimidation is simple but effective. Over ten minutes and eleven songs, Fear binds blackened atmosphere with crust-ridden hardcore and grind, taking inspiration from the sunshine and rainbows produced by nihilistics like Nails, Gride, Bastard, and His Hero is Gone.
The band continues their trek in Boston tonight. All tour dates and that 7" stream is below.
