The Foo Fighters with Bob Mould / Joan Jett, Deluna Fest 2012
Foo Fighters Bob Mould
Foo Fighters

The Foo Fighters headlined day 2 of the Deluna Fest in Florida (9/22) and while they've been no strangers to giant outdoor shows this summer (like Global Fest which happened this weekend in NYC), this was the only one where they sang happy birthday to Joan Jett who then joined them for "Bad Reputation." She did her own set earlier in the day. Additionally, Bob Mould came out for "Dear Rosemary" and Tom Petty's "Breakdown." Bob played Sugar's Copper Blue on day 3 (which he already did in Brooklyn).

In addition to Grohl & Co, Bad Brains also blessed day 2 (pics) as well as Brass-a-Holics, Saints of Valory, Mike Doughty, OFF!, Band of Horses (who also played Global Fest) and The Joy Formidable who will be touring (and playing NYC) and whose Deluna set photos are here.

Pictures from day 1 of Deluna Fest 2012 are HERE and more day 2 pics are below and

The Joy Formidable at Deluna Fest 2012

The Joy Formidable were one of the many bands to play the Deluna Fest in Pensacola Beach, Florida and pictures from their 9/22 set are in this post. (Deluna Fest day 1 pics are here and the rest of day 2 are here.) The rest of North America -- well, select cities at least -- will get a chance to see them when the Welsh band come back to tour in November, including two small shows in NYC: Bowery Hotel on 11/8 and Littlefield on 11/11. No word on advance tickets for Bowery Hotel, but Littlefield tickets go on sale today (10/1) at noon.

Bad Brains at DeLuna Fest 2012
Bad Brains

Bad Brains will celebrate their 35th anniversary with a new album, featuring all the current/original members that changed the face of punk rock so many moons ago. Into the Future is Bad Brains' new LP and you can look for that on November 20 via Megaforce Records. The band describes the LP as "blends of soulful backgrounds meshed with blistering hardcore and metal riffs, with classic dub."

In the meantime, the previously discussed Bad Brains: A Band in DCfilm will be screened at the Woodstock Film Festival which goes down October 10 -14. Tickets are on sale for those screenings. Head to the Woodstock Film Festival site for info on the full schedule and weekend passes.

So far Bad Brains only have one tour date in their future, on May 18 in Germany at the Ruhrpott Rodeo. The Bad Brains did, however, just bless the Deluna Festival in Pensacola, FL on September 22. More pictures from their appearance are below. If you missed it, pictures from day one at DeLuna are HERE with more pics to come.

Pearl Jam at Deluna Fest 2012
Deluna day 1

Over the two hours and 15 minutes that followed, [Pearl Jam] would play 28 songs, which included two encore breaks, that spanned 21 years and nine studio albums. Two of the band's most popular cover versions, "Interstellar Overdrive" by Pink Floyd and "Baba O'Riley" by The Who, were included, while Mike McCready took the second encore's final song, the oft unintelligible "Yellow Ledbetter" into a "Star Bangled Banner" guitar solo, a la Jimi Hendrix. The crowd was, as expected, one of the two biggest of the weekend... The band played seven of the 11 tracks from its legendary debut Ten, including: "Once," "Even Flow," "Alive," "Why Go," "Black," "Oceans" and "Porch." Vedder boasted of the band's terrific relationship with one another, one that has kept it in tact for more than two decades.

...the festival's most memorable moment came during Gaslight Anthem's Friday set. Lead singer Brian Fallon invited Eddie Vedder onstage, suggesting that anyone that came was there to work and there would be no "phoning it in." Vedder proceeded to perform Pearl Jam's "State of Love and Trust" with Gaslight Anthem... The early festival collaboration was its most talked about and its defining moment. -[al.com]

Of course, the third annual Deluna Festival in Pensacola, Florida wasn't just the Eddie Vedder/Pearl Jam show. The first day of the festival (9/21) also featured performances from Fishbone, Band of Skulls, Ben Folds Five (who played NYC recently and play Comic Con soon), Guided By Voices (whose members have an art show next week) and more. More pictures from the first day of Deluna 2012, below...

After busting up the gang in 2000, snarky mid-'90s piano trio Ben Folds Five reunited this year with a new album on the way and a tour, which they're on now. The tour stops at Central Park Summerstage tonight (9/14), their first NYC show in 12 years. Tickets for tonight's show are still available. BFF will also return to the NYC area for a show at Port Chester's Capitol Theatre on October 9 with Kate Miller Heidke (tickets) and a couple days later they will play opening night of New York Comic Con on October 11. Tckets for that are still available too.

Ben Folds Five, best known for their ballad "Brick" back when people still held up lighters at shows (1997), have a new album, The Sound Of The Life Of The Mind, which is their first since 1999 and is out next week (9/18). The record was funded via Pledgemusic and is a little mellower than the bouncy, fuzzy pop of their Clinton-era singles like "Underground" and "The Battle of Who Could Care Less" but his sense of humor seems intact. You can listen to tracks at SPIN, TeamCoco and Rolling Stone.

Ben Folds Five are also playing Florida's Deluna Fest which happens September 21 - 23 in Pensacola Beach, FL and also features Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Bob Mould doing Copper Blue, Diplo, Florence & the Machine, Band of Horses, and many more. Tickets for Deluna Fest are still available and full line-up is below.

A list of all Ben Folds Five dates, a few classic clips and that Deluna Fest lineup are below...

Weeze & Matt & Kim @ Deluna Fest
Deluna Festival
Deluna Festival

Do you think Matt & Kim ever get depressed? Like down-in-the-dumps, face-on-the-bathroom-tile, razor-to-the-wrist bummed? And do you think any of that anger is channeled into their music in ways not visibly noticed? Is that perma-simpleton-smile actually a front for an aryan-supremacy agenda spelled out in morse code via the band's shiny light show? Head to a New Year's Eve celebration at Hammerstein Ballroom with Super Mash Brothers to do some investigation and report back if you come across some leads. Tickets are on sale. All of their dates are listed below.

Matt & Kim was one of many artists to perform in Florida at Deluna Fest from 10/14 - 10/16, joining names like Ra Ra Riot, Stars, Ladytron, Girl Talk, Weezer, Cake and others. Belated pictures from the first day of that festival that Jane's Addiction also played, are in this post. Many more below.

Ra Ra Riot has been touring since Deluna. They don't have anything scheduled in NYC, but they will be on the road for a while and all of their dates are also listed below...

Dana has been down south enjoying the Florida sun and beach this weekend at Deluna Festival. Her full set of shots are on the way, but here are some from Saturday night headliner Jane's Addiction who are now making their way up to NYC for sold out shows at the more intimate Irving Plaza on Monday and Tuesday. We've already given away a few pairs of tickets to the Tuesday show, and we still have a pair or two left if you enter now at the BrooklynVegan Facebook page.
