Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows. Here are some highlights...
Daughter @ Apple Store SoHo
The UK ethereal folk act play a free acoustic show tonight at Apple Store Soho. 8 PM, free.
El-P, Killer Mike, Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire, Despot, Kool AD @ Webster Hall
El-P and Killer Mike have a new album out together under the name Run the Jewels, which means tonight's co-headlining show will feature tons of collaboration between the two rappers, in addition to each one's long history of quality tracks. All three rappers lined up to support the night are excellent too, so this show should be a fun one start to finish.
Baroness, Royal Thunder @ Irving Plaza
Baroness were recently in town to play a free House of Vans show with the Melvins, where they played a great set, but being that they were opening, it was unfortunately on the short side. Things should be better tonight when they headline Irving Plaza. And if you're going, make sure to get there early for the great, sludgy Royal Thunder.
Summerscreen w/ Aa, Amen Dunes (6:30pm) @ McCarren Park (FREE)
It's the last free Summerscreen show of the season...which would be sad if tonight's film wasn't the 1984 family fantasy The NeverEnding Story. Which means the summer night will go on forever? (That may be a case for Lionel Hutz.) We can only hope either Aa or Amen Dunes will cover Limahl's cheezeball themesong before the film starts. Bands at 6 PM and the film starts at sunset. FREE.
Gnarwhal, Spanyurd, Mick Barr @ Death By Audio
Spazzy, proggy Nashville duo Gnarwhal will be making a racket at DbA tonight with the equally loud (though more mathy) Chicago band Spanyurd. Mick Barr is doing a solo set as well.
Ceremony, Ed Schrader's Music Beat, Give, Luther @ Asbury Lanes (NJ)
Once a powerviolence band, now garage punk, Ceremony are at NJ's Asbury Lanes, which means things could be getting pretttttttty rowdy. Tourmates Ed Schrader's Music Beat open the night and their brand of stripped down post-punk rips too. The both play 285 Kent on Saturday (8/17).
Krief @ The Saint (NJ)
If you're in Asbury Park tonight but punk's not your thing, maybe hit The Saint to catch Dears guitarist Patrick Krief who makes pretty soaring guitar rock on his own.
Q-Tip (#Offline) @ Output
Q-Tip's weekly party, now at Output, aims to recreate the vibe of '90s clubs when most of us weren't staring at our phones all the time. But when you leave please be sure to include the pound sign in "#Offline" when you tweet about it.
Poodles, Monogold, Not Blood Paint, Appomattox @ Pianos
Joyous, rhythm-heavy locals Monogold continue their residency at Pianos continues tonight. Stick around after their set for the surf instrumental jams of Brooklyn's Poodles.
Designer Drugs, Lacey Youngblood @ The Rock Shop
Like last year, a handful of Brooklyn bands are going to Stockholm for the Brooklyn, Sweden festival. You can wish two of them -- including EDM rave faves Designer Drugs -- bon voyage tonight. (No doubt, this is a weird show for The Rock Shop.) The ticket price includes an hour of complimentary Brooklyn Brewery beer.
Big Terrific @ Cameo (FREE)
Max Silvestri hosts this popular weekly free comedy show that tonight welcomes Seaton Smith, Phoebe Robinson, and Mike Recine.
For more laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
Today is the 10th Anniversary of the 2003 East Coast Blackout.

Squarepusher is coming to the NYC-area for Camp Bisco, which goes down this year from July 11 to 13 at the Indian Lookout Country Club in Mariaville, NY with Passion Pit, Animal Collective, Toro y Moi, El-P & Killer Mike, Baauer, Ryan Hemsworth, Dan Deacon, Danny Brown, and more. Right before that though, Squarepusher will play his own show in NYC at Le Poisson Rouge on July 9. It's a much more intimate show than his 2012 show at Terminal 5, and tickets for it go on sale Friday (5/3) at 10 AM with a LPR member presale starting Thursday (5/2) at 10 AM.
Passion Pit at MSG earlier this month (more by Dominick Mastrangelo)
Camp Bisco is known for a long history of booking jam bands and dance music, but has branched out in recent years. This year's lineup has an especially interesting slew of non-jam. The festival goes down from July 11 to 13 at the Indian Lookout Country Club in Mariaville, NY and features Passion Pit, Animal Collective, Toro y Moi, El-P, Killer Mike, Baauer, Dan Deacon, Com Truise, Ryan Hemsworth, Flosstradamus, Bear Mountain, Free Energy, RL Grime, VHS or Beta, and others, including of course The Disco Biscuits, who run the festival.
3-Day general admission passes for Camp Bisco are on sale now. Full lineup below...

Blood Red Shoes @ MHOW
After Chris left the BV Loft Party all the way back on Friday, October 22nd, he headed over to Music Hall of Williamsburg for the Blue Flowers-presented CMJ showcase for a lineup of mostly UK bands including Chapel Club, Everything Everything, and Blood Red Shoes (who toured North America with Sky Larkin in October). Pictures from that show are in this post.
The occasion (to post these belated pics)? SXSW has already announced an initial lineup of bands playing in Austin from March 16-20, 2011, and Chapel Club is on that list (and I wouldn't be surprised of the other 2 mentioned bands end up coming too). Also on the list: Lia Ices, Braids, Asobi Seksu, Wye Oak, Suuns, Sun Airway, A Place to Bury Strangers and more. Full list under the rest of the MHOW pictures, below...

Last week in dance was not my favorite. I enjoyed Losoul's set at Sunday Best, and the urban landscape "Afterparty" at Warm Up at PS1 (though not the music so much) . More about both of those in Part 2 of the Week In Dance. For now, here's what's happening Thursday & Friday:
This summer you couldn't read an electronic music blog without coming across Little Boots (aka Victoria of Dead Disco). I first became familiar with her music through Fake Blood's excellent remix of her track, "Stuck On Repeat". Having only heard his version in which the vocals are very sparse, I was very surprised at how much she sings in the original versions of her tracks. Good stuff - which is saying a lot because - 1. I am really weird when it comes to vocals in electronic music, and 2. I [Showtrotta] really like very, very few female vocalists. Here's a video of her singing "Stuck on Repeat" while she plays the Tenori-on:
Download three tracks above, one of which is Little Boots' free Computer Fairyland mixtape. The tracklisting for that is below. Also below: the dates and times of the four live sets, and the three DJ sets, Little Boots is playing in NYC during CMJ week...
