Archers of Loaf at Bowery Ballroom in April (more by Joe McCabe)
Archers of Loaf

We finally posted those Archers of Loaf Bowery Ballroom pictures yesterday, and then today this happens:

The Village Voice, the nation's largest alternative weekly newspaper, is thrilled to announce the Archers Of Loaf added to this year's The 4Knots Music Festival at the South Street Seaport, Piers 16 & 17 on Saturday, July 14, 2012 from 1:00 - 8:00 PM. Team Spirit, Doldrums and Devin will also join the bill, featuring The Drums, Crocodiles, Hospitality, Bleached and Nick Waterhouse. More artists to be announced.

The 4Knots Music Festival will expand this year to include Piers 16 and 17 with a second outdoor side stage confirmed. Expanding to Pier 16 will allow the 4Knots Music Festival to include more performers.
Archers of Loaf and Doldrums both also play the Sled Island Festival this summer. Doldrums recently opened for Bear in Heaven.

And speaking of Nick Waterhouse, he just played Mercury Lounge, but unlike as previously reported, will not be back to play Dekalb Market. 4Knots is his next NYC show.

Other free shows coming up at South Street Seaport are listed HERE. No official word on whether they'll be another 4Knots pre-show like there was with Ted Leo last year (but stay tuned).

Suckers

As mentioned previously, Brooklyn's Suckers' have a new album, Candy Salad, which is now out on Frenchkiss. The band plays a record release party tonight (May 1) at Glasslands with openers Acrylics, Turn to Crime and Papertwin. The next day, Suckers start a month-long tour with their labelmate Young Man (plus a few dates with labelmate Devin), and all scheduled dates are below.

Pitchfork gave Candy Salad a 6.7, saying:

At their best, Suckers' songs-- rousing post-Arcade Fire uplifters, vitamin E-soaked sunbeamers, and the occasional yearning ballad-- match ornate instrumental flourishes to rousing, roundabout melodies. But Suckers are tinkerers at heart, and with producer Matt Boynton behind the boards this time out, no sound on Candy Salad's left untweaked, untreated, or untroubled. It's a real surplus of sound, but sometimes the songs themselves feel a little lost amidst the shuffle.
You can stream album track "Chinese Braille" at the bottom of this post or listen to the whole album via Spotify. Click through for Suckers tour dates, record release show flyer and that track stream....

Frankie Rose & band @ Hotel Vegan (by Amanda Hatfield)
BrooklynVegan @ SXSW 2012 - Hotel Vegas and the Voldstead Lounge

BrooklynVegan's Hotel Vegan, located at Austin venues Hotel Vegas & Volstead Lounge, began at noon back on Wednesday, 3/14/2012, on three stages. As "bob dylan wrote propaganda songs" points out:

"...it offered the perfect setting for seeing multiple bands within an intimate setting in a short amount of time. Sure it was a long walk down Sixth Street to get there, and it may not have been the most well kempt venue (I'll be honest, it was a shit-hole), but the three stage set-up provided for prime SXSW day party viewing. I had the pleasure of seeing Chelsea Wolfe, Japandroids, Frankie Rose, Deaf Heaven, and Japandroids all within the span of a couple hours. All of these bands were on my list of bands I wanted to see, and thanks to this venue, I was able to cross more bands off my list than past years"
One of the stages on Wednesday was dedicated to Chicago bands courtesy of BV Chicago, and one was put together by BBG. It was on the latter that we hosted an afternoon set by Deafheaven who created NY Mag's Nitsuh Abebe's favorite moment of SXSW 2012.

BrooklynVegan @ SXSW 2012 - Hotel Vegas and the Voldstead Lounge

Like on Friday and all four days, we served complimentary HobNob Wines all day. On Wednesday we also proudly passed out Brooklyn Brewery beer and Sailor Jerry drinks.

Special thanks to our official backline providers Vox, Blackstar and Korg, and thank you to NadaMoo for supplying free vegan treats, and to Honest Tea for the tea.

Jeff The Brotherhood

Jeff The Brotherhood are currently on the road with The Kills and Hunters. Check out pictures from both Wednesday's Austin show and last week's Chicago date. The tour hits a now-sold-out Terminal 5 in NYC on 2/11.

DOWNLOAD: Devin - "You're Mine" (MP3)

Devin at MHOW in February (more by Dominick Mastrangelo)
Devin

Vintage rock and roller Devin Therriault, who has dropped his last name and now goes simply by Devin, recently signed to Frenchkiss, who put out his debut 7" EP, "You're Mine," this past Tuesday (11/15). The song "You're Mine" initially appeared on Devin's 2009 home demo. You can grab the newly recorded version at the top of this post. The entire 3-song EP is available on iTunes and is streaming on Spotify. The vinyl is available at the Frenchkiss webstore.

While the EP is noticeably louder and larger sounding than his home demo, Devin's still amping up the distortion on just about every instrument to retain his lower-fi garage rock feel. The title track is followed by live staple "Thing On My Mind," which is an even harder hitter than "You're Mine," but Devin tones things down a bit on the final track, "Black & Blue," a fuzzed out Stonesy ballad which jumps into a jackhammer chorus.

Devin plans to follow the EP with his debut full length, Romancing, which should be out in early 2012 on Frenchkiss, and also has plans to tour, though no dates have been announced yet.

The EP's artwork and tracklist is below...
